Get Me a Pen!

Signing a lease on Tuesday say whaaaat!?

This is so crazy

So, that ^^^ happened last week. I still can’t believe that I can now say that I have a house! I only lease it, and the contract is just for one year, but I still feel accomplished and grown-up!

These past two weeks have all been pretty busy. Not many fun stories came out of them…. Well, I guess Valentines day was interesting. I woke up really sad, mostly because it was 9:30 and I had a tummy ache and I missed my class. But, I took on the day and put on my red sweatshirt and ate my breakfast alone. It was great. Then I had two other classes and one included a test. bleh. But, my teacher redeemed herself by giving us mini gummi bear packages when we finished the test. They were so cute that I couldn’t eat them for a day. Then I went straight to my house (even though it’s not technically my house until July 1, from now on it will be referred to as mine) and took pictures and talked to the girls who live there so I could get all the dirty details my landlord might have not disclosed. I for sure fell in love with the house again. Next, I was off to Zoe’s cafe to chit-chat with the girls I was to be living with so we could discuss finding our 6th roommate. (That is a super long story and is full of drama so I won’t bore you with that) Then, I was late to my own party! The Navs put on an event led by the event teams, of which I am a part of, and it was pretty neat. After the event, there was a dessert social and everybody brought chocolate treats. Once everyone left, which was about 10:45pm, I had a paper to write. Man, now that I think aboutit, my Valentines day was pretty sucky! ha! Anyways, the best part of Valentines day I didn’t even realize happened until the next day. The only things I ate were made of chocolate. I think I am going to start a new tradition of only eating chocolate things on that day, anyone with me?

The time between then and now has not stopped for an hour. Over the weekend, I met with a girl who was interested in being our 6th roommate and then communicated through email and text with my landlord about 20 times to finalize everything. Then Tuesday, February 19, 2013 I signed my first lease! Woop! Woop! I never stop going on Thursdays, and Friday I was on my way to Fort Collins for the Navs Laborers Conference. What an uplifting and knowledge filled weekend that was. I am so blessed to be a part of Navs and to have the opportunity to get off campus and spend time worshipping with hundreds of other college students who love the Lord. It is an experience I wish could happen more often.

And now it’s Monday night. I have my first Math exam tomorrow of which will consist of more paragraphs than numbers. My first big presentation for my Children’s Lit class is due tomorrow and I am super nervous about it. But, there is less than 3 weeks until Spring break! Although, I think it will be warmer here than in Independence… you guys are getting so much snow, this Colorado girl is jealous!

I hope you have lovely weeks and don’t get too stir crazy being snowed in and taking days off of school!

-Morgan

p.s. I would like to extend my sincerest apologies for not sending Valentines. Getting all of yours in the mail just made my day, and now I am very much regretting not being able to brighten your days as you did mine.

p.p.s.I didn’t re-read this, so don’t hate me and my horrible grammar and confusing sentences.

The most noteworthy things from my week:

1. Chocolate fountain on Valentine’s Day

2. The Christian group I am in has started a new small group at our favorite coffee shop, The Potter’s House.

3. The other day when I was driving, I cut someone off and when I looked in my rearview mirror, the guy was doing exaggerated clapping for me. AKA, he was pissed.

4. Oreos

5. I have a shit ton of stuff to do in the next two and a half weeks

6. Of Monsters and Men!!!

P.S. Facebook is literally my enemy right now.

Valen-whaaaa?

14 Feb

Okay, the reality is that I’m not very good at coming up with titles for my posts… Sorry guys. But Happy Valentine’s Day! 🙂

This week, I worked at the candy store for 2 days. My job consisted for “de-stemming” strawberries. The whole time I was working there I kept thinking about the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory, mainly because the conditions we worked in KIND OF resembled it, (except not really. We were able to use the restroom when we needed to and there were no fires, and we were paid more than minimum wage) and also because I had been studying those labor movements/events in my history class.

Anyway, in the room I was working in, there were about 8-10 people sitting next to a table and a bucket where the stems were deposited. We had to de-stem 4 boxes of strawberries in less than 15 minutes. It really wasn’t too hard, just tedious. We used these “clipper” things to de-stem, and after about an hour or so, I could feel a blister or 2 staring to form on my fingers because of it. Luckily they didn’t get super bad. I was supposed to work yesterday but when I showed up, pretty much everyone and their mom was working, so they said that I could go home. But for my effort of showing up, they gave me with a box of chocolate covered strawberries. I was perfectly fine with that. They were delicious.

Microbiology is probably my favorite class at the moment, mainly because the professor is super funny and cusses often. We had our first test Tuesday and there had apparently been some cheating going on. Long story short, he sternly lectured us at the beginning of class today, basically saying if we cheat we’re not actually learning this important stuff and we’re going to be “shitty health professionals” and we’ll probably misdiagnose some kid and possibly kill them (he likes to keep it real. Lol).

So after he was done being mean, he was like “Can we be friends?… Anyone up for some make-up sex?” *gasps and laughter from everyone* “It was a nice transition into our STD lecture!” What a lovely lecture topic for today. HAPPY VALENTINES DAY! DON’T CONTRACT HERPES BECAUSE THIS IS WHAT CAN HAPPEN TO YOUR PRIVATES. STD joke professor told in class: “If you have one case of the clap and it spreads, it becomes the applause” LOL. He also explained that STDs are on the rise in the elderly. “Thank you, Viagra. You put them (the elderly) in nursing homes, give them Viagra and they have nothing else to do.” He’s the funniest professor I’ve ever had. I need to start a notebook with all the hilarious things he says.

Alright, guys. That’s all for this week!

Keep it real!

P.S. MONSTERS AND MEN.

P.P.S. Les Mis Valentines for you!

Happy Valentine’s Day

14 Feb

I hope you all have had a great day so far! And that this weekend will be a fun one.

It snowed here today for a little bit and that just made my day because I could wear my red mittens. Perfect day.

Love you guyssss!

Here is a link to Tea Time with Sofia Grace and Rosie. I hope you enjoy it. Their accents and tutus make me smile.

This is me procrastinating.

16 Feb

What up, broskis. Not much going on here because I’m procrastinating my studying (what’s new?).

Anyway this past weekend, Kendyl told you about our spontaneous road trip to NWMS. That was was interesting, but pretty fun. Except having a car that doesn’t have cruise control really does suck for driving long distances.

This week has been super stressful. Pretty much every night this week, I’ve been up until 2:30-3 in the morning worrying about various classes (specifically anatomy). Thankfully it snowed Sunday night/Monday morning and anatomy at 7:45 was canceled. So that meant that we didn’t have to take the quiz that was scheduled, and that gave me an extra 2 days to study. And also I got like an extra hour of sleep, which was nice.

On Valentine’s day, all the single ladies of our floor got together and ordered chinese take-out and played cranium. The chinese was actually pretty tasty. And during Cranium, Lei and I were partners, which didn’t work out too well because we came in last place. But that night was nice because I didn’t have symphony rehearsals and I wasn’t stuck in the band room for 3 hours of my life. However I ended up studying for anatomy (again) until late, which sucked.

Yesterday we had Formal Introductions for all the new Greeks. It was fancy-schmancy-ish. But basically all of the frats went around to each wing of the sorority complex and you walked down the staircase with a new frat guy and they said your name…. blah blah blah. We all also had to mingle… gross. For the most part it was quite entertaining though, because you got to see who made it into frats. One frat prepared a song, another did a Q and A session with a new sorority girl and frat guy, and they brought roses for every girl. We sang a song back to the frat who sang. And our song was…. provocative to say the least. Here’s some of what we sang: “we’re tired of being proper and prim”… “start life over leading it full of sin”…. something about “drinking margaritas in between class”…. “swinging on an outhouse door” with a nightie or something…. and the purpose of a nightie is “to be removed.” Yeah, I cannot begin to describe the awkward-ness I felt when I was singing that song… especially since I drink margaritas and like to swing on outhouse doors all the time. The whole introduction process took about 2 hours. After we got back from the complex, my whole hall got a little crazy and slap happy, and we all went to the costume closet and picked a bunch of random crap to wear and took pictures. That was actually quite fun. (Kendyl has the proof… lol.) Then after that, Kendyl and I went to the anatomy lab to finish looking at stupid bones. I ended up staying up until like 3:30 because I had another assignment that I procrastinated (The teacher didn’t even check my work today! so basically I stayed up for nothing!! pissed.)

Today I haven’t done anything too exciting. Had anatomy lab. I painted my nails. Vacuumed the floor. Studied for anatomy. Went to written communications (probably one of the lamest classes ever). Today we worked on citations. And apparently we have all been doing them wrong, and we’re not allowed to use citation machine because it’s also wrong. The teacher border line wack. She’s the biggest grammar nazi ever, no joke.

Anyway, here’s my pop culture reference of the week:

Jeremy Lin. Linsanity.
He’s chinese like me!!! And he’s also freakin’ baller. Aweee yeeeah.

That’s it from me!

What the Coger.

15 Feb

Yo. Yo. Yo. I should be working on a computer science program but this is better than doing that.

I’ve been having this problem with my eye where it’s been hurting for about a week. Friday I went to the nurse and I got an appointment at one of Springvegas’s many hospitals, fo freeee. Apparently all of us pay a health fee every year so we get free doctor’s visits. But they didn’t do anything except tell me to buy these $15 eye drops at Walgreens and to come back on Monday if it wasn’t better. It wasn’t better, but it snowed and I didn’t feel like going out so I had my mom make me an appointment for this weekend at home with an ophthalmologist. At Walgreens I also bought a bag of miniature Reese’s cups and ate the whole bag while catching up on my television shows, because Caitlin was gone for the weekend and I was bored.

Friday I also had an interview at Hallmark, I thought it went really well but I didn’t get the job. Guess I will just continue to be broke af.

Well obviously it snowed on Monday. One of my teachers cancelled class cause she’s badass and was like “Let’s call it a snowday” even though it wasn’t that bad. I have a portrait assignment due in a couple weeks for photography so I took some pictures of Caitlin in the snow. The fitness center closed early so I was able to watch a full episode of the Bachelor. (I still hate Courtney.) Then I spent the night in Caitlin’s room because Alexis was somewhere else and she said I could sleep in her bed, and Caitlin and I both had 8am class so we figured it would work. It felt weird hauling my duffel bag upstairs to have a sleepover in a different room of the same building.

Yesterday was Valentine’s Day. My classes were pretty boring; in photography we just did a critique of the last project and in Video we just watched our last project. BUT AT LUNCH IT WAS VALENTINE’S BUFFET AND THERE WAS A FREAKING CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN. And red velvet cake balls and white cake balls and pineapple and strawberry and pretzels and cookies and all kinds of deliciousness. I LOVE SCHOOL. Also that wasn’t even the dessert bar, which is always awesome, but yesterday it was even more so. Last night Kayla and I had our date, and Caitlin ended up coming along too because her dance practice got canceled. We had reservations at one of the nicer restaurants in town called Kai which is a sushi place. Kayla ordered one that was on fire. It was really nice, I felt like that restaurant belonged somewhere like Los Angeles instead of Springfield, Missouri. We got really full but then we went to The Cup because Kayla said she had never been before and I said I hadn’t been in a whole week and was obviously due back for another visit. We went back to school for a while and I got a package from my mom that included a lot of chocolate. Then we saw The Vow at 9:50 at one of the theaters. It was okay but I did not cry at all like I was expecting to! And I HATED the ending!!!

Me and Caitlin at Kai

Caitlin, Kayla, one of Kayla’s friends, and I are applying to live in one of the on-campus apartments next year. There are 5 apartments that are really nice, and two groups of four live in each. (One on the upper floor, one on the lower.) These apartments include a kitchen with a stove, oven, full-length fridge, microwave, and dishwasher(!!!!!), four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a washer and dryer (!!!!!) and a living room, and a cute little bar area. I WANT IT SO BAD! The thing is, you have to have a full-year service project in order to live there, and preference is given to sophomores. We have to fill out this lengthy application and turn it in, and then we will find out if we need to come back and present it to a panel. We’ll find out by next Friday if we got it. Today Caitlin and I went to go meet with the volunteer coordinator and when we tried to drive there, my car wouldn’t start. We took hers instead and when we got back I called Security to try and help me start it, but they said it wasn’t working and must be some other problem. So I just called my dad and I don’t know what we’ll do now because I was supposed to go home this weekend.

The only other interesting thing was Spanish class today. My teacher was talking about the verb “coger” (ko-hair, not kogurr) which means “to grab” or “to catch” or pretty much anything that involves the action of taking, or something innocent like that, but thanks to Ms. Diecidue in Spanish III, I also happened to know that it doubles for meaning the verb of the F-word. Apparently that is a cultural thing in Spain, but not in South America. So today Dr. Chamorro told my class full of unsuspecting students – “It means ‘to fahk’.” (He is Argentinan.) So then we all laughed because I’ve only heard one other teacher say the F-word before but she didn’t say it like an Argentinan because she’s American. But then he said, “This is only in Spain! Imagine if people from Australia came to America and they were using fahk for every word because it doesn’t mean the same to them? ‘I will fahk the pencil. Fahk the trashcan. I want you to fahk my backpack.’ That’s what it’s like when people from South America go to Spain.” Totes awks.

Okay guys, go out and fahk the day.

Cathy

P.S. Jackie Robinson is trending so I’ll use him as my pop culture reference of the day because he has an awesome last name.

There’s a Hash Tag for That

8 Feb

Hey good news everybody, I’m having a way better Wednesday than I did last week. Not a whole lot has been going on; Friday night/Saturday my mom and Becky came to visit after a college visit to Rolla. We ate Chinese food for dinner, went to my favorite coffee house for Oreo Quicksands, shopped at Charming Charlies, looked for a prom dress for Becky, ate at an Italian restaurant, and went to The Cup. I may just be 10 pounds heavier now but I’m gonna go out on a limb and say it was worth it.

My friend Kayla and I have been going to the fitness center pretty much every weeknight (unless something else is going on). This makes the fourth week. On Tuesday (Valentine’s Day), since both of our boyfriends aren’t really in the same country as us, we are going to have a woman date. Kayla doesn’t get out of class until 5:45 on Tuesdays so we will probably go out to eat after that and then go see “The Vow” at the movies, probably at like 11 or something if they still have showings then. We’re also going to buy Valentine’s themed chocolate, etc at the grocery store to make up for the stuff we won’t be getting. It really sucks that Moritz has so much studying to do because we really won’t be talking much for about 6 weeks, but Kayla is the one in her relationship that is so busy with school, that she doesn’t even talk to (Tobi) for like 3 or 4 days at a time, at all. We always talk at least a little bit. I think I’m handling it well… for now.

Remember how I applied for some jobs or something? Sunday (two weeks after applying), Best Buy called me. I applied for Sales Associate, but it was the Geek Squad! He wanted to ask me about my experience with computers. I conveniently forgot to tell him that I got a 39% on a computer science test last semester. Well, I tried to make myself sound good but I’m not sure how convincing I was. At the end though he asked me to clarify my availability and I feel like they must have been desperate if they pulled my application from another department, so I’m still hopeful.

The last noteworthy occurrences are pertaining to my wonderful school. We now have our own hashtag on Twitter, called #DUprobz. This has been expanded to a Twitter account, also named @DUprobz . The profile picture is of Bob Barker, former host of “The Price is Right” and also a Drury graduate. After about one week, @DUprobz has almost 250 followers, which is like 1/6 of the school probably. Some of my favorites:

  • The kid across from me in the Olin Library keeps farting, but he must think I can’t hear it because I have headphones in. @DUprobz
  • I was late for class because the CX took so long making my mocha smoothie. #DUprobz
  • Explaining to your relatives that you go to Drury UNIVERSITY not Drury Inn Hotels and Suites. #TheresADifferenceGrandma #DUprobz
  • DU solution: Take the windshield wipers off your car. Now security doesn’t know where to put your parking ticket. @DUprobz
  • Commons girl put 5 mini corndogs on my plate but then took one back. Apparently she knows I can’t handle 5.
  • Is it safe to go in the Drury library bathroom today or is there gonna be another naked hobo in there? @DUprobz
  • I dropped a cup in the Commons today and received a round of applause accompanied by vulgar insults and mom jokes. #DUprobz

The other funny thing is that I accidentally stumbled across the “Incidence Reports” on our school website.
November 2011 – “Officer catches two high schoolers who climbed onto the Bay Hall roof.”
“Resident Assistant called Security regarding possible marijuana in Sunderland Hall.”
“Suspicious person was removed from a Lay Hall classroom.”

And those are just some! It’s so awesome to see all the reports, especially when you go back to like 2005 because the reports are super detailed and it says who was drunk and got taken to the hospital with alcohol poisoning, and what these people’s IDs and birthdays are, and everything like that. One of my personal favorites is from January 17, 2005. “Student upset after receiving ticket.” I particularly enjoyed the vocabulary with which he verbally assaulted the officer.

I highly encourage you to check this out and also try and find if your school has anything like that.

Peace out
Cathy
