The Desert

20 Dec

Arizona has been pretty great so far. We’ve done a lot of the touristy things, like take millions of pictures of the cacti that are everywhere. We also went to this cave place, the zoo (which doesn’t have pandas), a museum of miniature figurines and doll houses, the desert museum, and today we went to the air and space museum which included a bus tour of the nearby Air Force base. That was pretty cool. I’ll post pictures when I get home. There’s actually been a lot more to see here than I had been expecting.

Surprisingly the weather has been pretty chilly… Like 50s-60s. For a few days, the mountain tops were all snow covered. It was pretty. My parents kept complaining that they were expecting 70 degree weather. I was like whateves, it’s warmer than MO. But now that it’s snowy/icy back there, all I want to do is be trapped inside my house watching Christmas specials and drinking hot chocolate in my puff-puff blanket.

We leave saturday afternoon and won’t be back in town until 7:30. So I have 1 1/2 more days here in the desert! Baaaah I’m actually kind of missing pimpdence and my mom. Also I haven’t done ANY Christmas shopping at all. So I need to get on that once I get back. This week has been really enjoyable but I honestly can’t wait to be back home.

Hope you guys got my postcards that I sent if you posted your address to our chat. (That means everyone except for…. Nick. You’re surprised, I know.) Miss you guys! 🙂

Thursday to Thursday

13 Dec

Well. It’s been exactly a week since I’ve been home. The amount of productiveness (not sure if that is a word either) that has been occurring in my life is about… none. I might or might have not told you guys, but I signed up for Netflix for the free month. And that’s pretty much all I’ve been doing. I finished watching the 2 seasons of DC Cupcakes, watched almost a full season of Grey’s Anatomy, half a season of How I Met Your Mother, a handful of episodes of Scrubs, a couple episodes of Downton Abbey, a whole season of Kate Plus 8, half a season of Say Yes to the Dress, and also Parks and Rec. I also watched Pocahontas, Thor, No Strings Attached, Note By Note (a documentary on the making of a Steinway & Sons piano.), and a documentary on the Royals (not the baseball team). Pretty sure I’m missing some. Also I went to the library and checked out season 7 of Boy Meets World. Love that show. Yesterday my mom basically called me lazy for doing nothing but staring at my computer screen. What else am I supposed to do on Christmas break? Whateves.

I have been falling asleep pretty early and waking up super early this week. I think I actually woke up at 5:30 once. But because of that I’ve been able to watch the Today Show a lot this week. That’s definitely one of my guilty pleasures. Not going to lie.

Anyway, early Saturday morning I’ll be on an airplane leaving Pimpdence for Arizona! Whoop. I love flying. I haven’t really started packing, mainly because I hate it so much. To be honest, I’ll probably end up just throwing things in a suitcase, per usual. The bad thing about traveling with my dad is that he likes to condense things. So I will pack a full load, then when I get to his house he’ll say, “Oh you don’t have that much stuff. You can just put your stuff in our bags.” Then I’ll have to unpack everything. In reality it would be easier to just take my own suitcase. Ai Ya. He also expects me to go without a bag/purse. WHAT!

Obligatory sentence about that kid hitting the principal at Chrisman –> I’ll just say that I’m glad I got out of there when I did. Bad year for WC.

Also, if you need some new Christmas music to listen to, I highly recommend Ben Rector’s Jingles and Bells. Free download of that CD here. He’s definitely one of my favorite artists.

S/O to CATHY and MORG! Happy early birthday, ladies! Glad I can call you awesome people my friends! Welcome to the 20′s! *<|:)

There’s something on the floor…

4 Apr

I feel like not much has happened, yet I don’t know where the whole week went since last Wednesday.

Thursday I had to do a “funny” project for video class with a partner… first, I don’t know anyone in my class of 10 people. Second, this project is not for a grade so why would I want to do it?
Anyway, a girl named Lindsey who is on the soccer team, and in the sorority with a certain reputation, asked me if I wanted to be her partner so I was. She is really nice. We went to her apartment and pretended we had a club where we obsessively painted our nails and it turned out better than we were expecting.

Usually on the weekends I hang out with Caitlin, but this weekend she went to Truman State to visit her two best friends, so I was like well now what? Anyway, I ended up laying outside on a blanket in the sun with Kayla for 2 hours (after properly applying sunscreen, of course). Then we hung out in her room for a while, played tennis outside, and then decided to WALK to downtown Springfield around 9:00pm. The walk seems much longer than the drive, but we always have lots to talk about so it was fun. We went to Starbucks in the Bistro Market, and then proceeded to the newly renovated Park Central Square where we witnessed some 15 year olds smoking cigarettes and acting like, well, 15 year olds. I was grateful to be wearing a sweatshirt that proclaimed DRURY across the front, so everyone would know we were at LEAST college age, in case there was any doubt.

Also, there was a fight somewhere I think and so then the whole slew of police cars, a firetruck, and a ambulance came blaring by. Then we saw a guy running around on the roofs of buildings. And some people who were in a sword-fighting club just doing their thing at the square. We went to Jordan Valley Park, and eventually returned back to school around midnight.

Saturday I just acted like a bum and finished my research paper that was due Monday. Sunday I didn’t do much either. I laid out with Kayla again, and skyped, so that was important!

Monday was not noteworthy, other than getting froyo at a place downtown that is not very good… it’s not a franchise, maybe that’s why, but their cheesecake bites taste more like cornbread…

Yesterday sucked big big balls. I wanted to skip photography because I’ve finished the next project, but noooo then he sent an email and was like “yo guyz I need u to B here Tuesday bcuz im liek gonna go over the final assignment.” Well DAMN. I got my butt out of bed at 7:30, went to class at 8, stayed for 15 min as he explained the assignment, and went back to bed at 8:30. POINTLESS. Got up at 10:30, cause we had a meeting about picking our apartment for next year at 11. We were 3rd to choose and got the 2nd floor, YES! That lasted until 11:30, and then I had class starting at 11:30 until 1:30. Then class from 1:30 to 3. Then an interview for Drury Ambassadors at 3:30, and then a meeting for this honor society at 4:15. Yes, yesterday really sucked big balls. It’s like everyone was just like “oh hay how can we make Cathy have the most busiest day everrrrr” and then they planned accordingly. Aaand that’s my soapbox.

In other news, my parents have officially told me Moritz can come on vacation with our family this year 🙂

In other other news, I was woken up at 1:00 am by some girls in my hallway being very loud and exclaiming. I went to the door, opened it to ask them to be quiet and they said “Someone shit on the floor!” But they were quiet after that.
