That Deli Life

10 Oct

Today was my 3rd day overall at HV.  The past two days, I’ve been working in the deli at HV. And being completely honest, I think I like it better at the deli, but I guess I don’t really have too much to go on. There’s just a lot more things to do in the deli. And not everything is “bitch work” because you’re new, which I kind of feel like that’s how it mostly is up front.

Yesterday I was trained, made hummus, made lots of sandwiches, and bagged lots of meats and cheese for customers. Today I did all afore-mentioned, minus the hummus, plus used the meat slicer. That was pretty interesting. My favorite thing to do in the deli though is probably use the sicker machine. You just punch in some numbers for the product, then BAM! It spits out the sticker label then you stick that on the product. Call me lame, don’t care.

Yesterday my cousin who works at HV came to get a sandwich. I don’t think he knew I had started working because he was surprised to see me, and I was kind of surprised to see him. But it was all exciting.

Most of the people I’ve been working with have been pretty cool and chill. I guess there isn’t a manager as of right now in the deli, so everything is pretty laxed. Also today, I accidentally used “suppes tired” in front of my new co-works and was judged hard core. LOL. After that happened, I basically said all of the abbreves I use. Probs, whateves, etc. but it’s cool though because they make fun of me too. Somethings never change. Haha.

Other than working at the deli, my week has been super stressful. I had two tests this week—one in my hardest class, the other in my easiest class. I stayed up really late for the first half of the week studying for the hardest test. Then after that I kind of was just like meh, but I think the second test turned out to be okay, so no worries there.

If I’m being completely honest, it’s been one of those weeks where it just sucks. I wish I could that things were better, but I can’t. Sometimes things happen, and maybe it happened for a reason, but it was a punch to the gut. I wanted it, but I don’t think I realized how much I desperately and whole-heartily wanted it until I was told I couldn’t have it. So now I’m basically back to square one. I just don’t know where I’m headed or what’s ahead. And every time I think about having to think about what I should do next, I just don’t want to think about it. You get me? I hate facing this reality. I hope things get better from here, because it sucks, guys. I guess it’s just one of those obstacles in life, huh?

Peace out, girl scouts.

Non-sequitur

27 Mar

I’m back at school, how unfortunate.

Nothing monumental has been going on this week. I mean I just saw all of you on Saturday night (well except for Nick) (wait, who’s Nick?) so that was awesome. I stayed up until 2:30 last night studying for my Foundations of Communication Theory test today but I still couldn’t answer:
1) Organizational culture is ______.
2) Organizational culture is ______.
3) Organizational culture is ______.
I was supposed to write in three different words but I didn’t know them.

I got an iPhone. You all know that. I still feel like I should document it somehow. Here’s a list of all the apps I’ve gotten so far (in no particular order, other than the order that they are on my screens): Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Flashlight, Bible, Foursquare, Hanging with Friends, Draw Something, Skype, eBay, Sudoku, YouTube, Vine, Pinterest, Yelp, Translator, and Quick Scan. There isn’t a Jodi Arias trial app.

I’m really tired. I have to work on my group paper tonight with the people that live next door. I just wrote “tonight” as “two night” in that last sentence so I went back and changed it. Yikes. Two of my roommates are mad at each other (K and D) which makes it awkward because they keep talking to me and Caitlin about each other and we don’t know what to say. Now we have two gerbils. They’re both boys so luckily it can’t become a gerbil breeding ground up in here.

I’m wearing neon pink socks today and I have decided that I really like my haircut that I got on Thursday. At first I was indifferent but now I’ve decided it’s a positive change. Tonight I’ll find out where my housing group for next year (once I get back from London) is living. We’re 7th on the priority list, and there are 4 University Suites (our first choice) and 3 Benton houses (our second choice) open.

I am sorry this was so non-sequitur. But I think it’s because I’m so tired and just trying to get through the week before I can go back home for Easter.

As Derek once said, peace to your dreadlocks.

Top things I learned this week.

8 Nov

Hello friends.

This post is going to be short. FYI. But here are somethings I learned this week.

1. You may say you’re going to study well in advance for a test. But if that actually happens…  Well, go you!
2.NEVER lie down while studying for said test. You might accidently fall asleep and waste 2 out of your 13ish precious hours you have left to study with. Even if you tell yourself, “I’ll only sleep for 30 mins.” Does it ever really end up being 30 minutes? No. Go study at your desk.
3. Classes should be canceled the week of election week. Heck, they should just make a month long break between the first week of November and Thanksgiving every 4 years. Between voting and watching TV I certainly did not accomplish anything on election day. The results were just so intriguing that I stayed up until 2 am. I had class the next morning at 8 am. Whoops.
4. Halloween is a horrible holiday for people trying to watch their food intake. You should see my trash can. It’s overflowing with candy wrappers. It’s too crazy to pass up cheap name-brand candy and I like Reeses too much.
5. Make sure you check you car’s coolant! My car’s was empty when I got home. And if my mom hadn’t told me to check it, well, I’d probably be without a car.

Must go study for this stupid test now.

PS. If you see me online after you read this post, please ask me WTF I’m doing because there is absolutely no reason why I should be FB when I have barely studied for this test. Then tell me to get off the computer. Thanks! 🙂

Moi!

I told Morgan I would do this like four months ago but I just have been lazy. Better later than never so here we go!
I have seven days of high school left plus test week and I don’t count that as real school so seven days! I couldn’t be happier of getting out of there.  My senior year in Finnish high school hasn’t been the best year of my life. I mean it has been ok but pretty much all of my friends graduated last spring so they are not there sharing the experience. I have made some new friends and they are all awesome but it’s just not the same because we have known each other for a couple of months and I feel like “I don’t need new friends” from high school because I hang out with my old friends outside the school and we are not going to see each other after high school.  Maybe I’m wrong.
I will graduate June 2nd so now you are probably thinking why we have this super long break. Finnish school system is little bit different than yours. We have these big tests that everyone has to pass if they want to graduate. They are kind of your finals but a lot bigger deal. The tests are in March and this time period between the end of school and the tests is called study break and it’s just for studying. We have to choose at least 4 subjects (I chose five: Finnish, English, history, math and Swedish) and I have to take the tests over these subjects. I had my history test last fall and I studied for three months for that. So that means it’s going to be busy two months. You probably know that Finnish college is free but you have to get in so after finals I have to start to study for the other test..
We got snow like a week ago. We had it in the beginning of December but it melted away.  It’s so pretty here, our back yard looks like winter wonderland! We should be getting more snow tomorrow but unfortunately we don’t have snow days so I have to go to school tomorrow… We are maybe going to get some sushi for lunch tomorrow so that’s exciting (I know I know we have free school lunch but sometimes you  have to get something nice for yourself).  Just one more week to go!
I miss all of you!
