El fin! Hasta enero, Springfield. Hasta pronto, amigos :-)

15 May

I am free! 🙂

This is a little bittersweet though. It’s been the best semester of college by far, potentially the best of my life ever. It was much needed after the worst semester of college and my life ever last semester. But this one has been awesome. I am a little sad it’s over and that I won’t see a lot of my friends and professors or be on Drury’s campus until January. But then I remember I’m going to LONDON in 3 months so I stop being sad pretty quick.

I actually haven’t been that stressed out this week. I’ve been stressed all semester, in a good way though. It kept me busy and kept me going all the time, but I just feel so satisfied when I check things off my list of things to do, so I’ve been managing my time really well. Considering how much I’ve been working, I’ve had to. So I never got panicked-stressed out.

Friday night we had our final Summit project presentations. Here’s me and my roommates outside our house wearing our Volunteer shirts we got from the shelter.

Today I had my final presentation of my research project. I still can’t believe that dang project that wouldn’t go away is… gone. If anyone’s interested in learning about Media Framing of the Sandy Hook Shooting and wants to read a 17-page paper about it, hit me up. My mom told me she thought it would be really boring but it kept her attention. So there’s a testimonial, if you’re skeptical.

I got my final grades for my two Spanish classes where I have an awesome teacher. 97.75% in Spanish 302 and 97.6% in Senior Seminar! I got a 98% on both of my final papers. The other day I was talking to my professor and she said I’ve really improved a lot and I am probably one of the ones who have improved the most.

Here’s a picture of me and my class at her house after the Iniciación ceremony for the Sigma Delta Pi honor society! Those little kids are another professor’s kids.

I’m really going to miss my Spanish class!

I don’t know what to do with myself now. Probably eat a lot of food, right? I’ve been having a lot of Chipotle and pizza lately.

Or maybe I should work on cleaning this:

… Nah. I’m going to enjoy my freedom for now.

Here’s a list of some of the best things about this semester (no particular order):

  • Going to Atlanta to watch the basketball team win the national championship
  • Getting the outstanding sophomore in the communication department award
  • Eating dinner at my Spanish professor’s house with my class
  • Winning extra credit for our research poster
  • A cat named Georgie at the animal shelter
  • IPHONE
  • Getting prepared to go to London
  • Making new friends with people in my classes
  • Being addicted to the Jodi Arias trial (Guilty- first degree premeditated murder)
  • Going to St. Louis for a weekend with Caitlin
  • Not having any classes I hate
  • Not having calculus which is the ultimate class I hate

I’ll be home on Friday night, see you guys for Dirty Dancing on Saturday night! I’ll make some snakes. Oops I meant to say snacks, but it’s funny that I said snakes instead so I decided not to change it.

And t-minus six days until the Of Monsters and Men concert! That kind of snuck up on us, didn’t it? Hooray!

Cathy

P.S. Let’s come watch Andy Roddick play on the Springfield Lasers tennis team sometime this summer! I don’t really know anything about him but I know you guys do.

P.P.S. I’m still in shock it’s summer now. IT’S SUMMER RIGHT NOW. It feels like it was just last summer, right? I’m so excited for pie-worthy stories and sitting on the big rock at Bass Pro and being scared of creepy people and raccoons. Can we go camping on your property again, Kendyl? I wonder if Nick will be allowed this year.

P.P.P.S. How is it that we graduated from Chrisman 2 years ago? How is it that we just finished our SOPHOMORE YEAR OF COLLEGE?

La vida loca

24 Apr

I am living the crazy life.

I’ll spare you the details of everything I need to do in the next 3 weeks, because you probably don’t really want to hear about them and I don’t want to think about them.

Over the weekend I went to St. Louis with Caitlin. It was pretty fun. On the 3.5-hour drive, I was keeping up on the Boston bomber suspect search via Twitter. My favorite part was when, right in the middle of breaking news tweets that the suspect had been located, the Associated Press felt the need to announce this:

apphoto

Yes, what an opportune time to mention Kim Kardashian’s divorce. We all care about that so much and there was definitely nothing else exciting going on at this moment.

Anyway, we got to Caitlin’s house and of course her mom was watching it all unfold on TV so her dad got us Qdoba and we ate and watched them get the suspect. I was really interested in seeing what happened.

Then we got Dairy Queen and went to bed. We woke up at 11:30 and went to the St. Louis Zoo which was really nice, and it was free! It was the perfect day to go to the zoo. It’s a lot different than ours. Afterwards we went to the Arch. We didn’t go up in it because that probably costs money and we’re poor but it was fun to walk around outside. We saw a lot of people taking prom pictures in pretty dresses.

It made me want to go to prom again (ours was 2 years ago yesterday) but then I realized that having to be in high school again would not be worth it. If someone offered me $1 million to go to high school again for a year, I honestly can’t say whether I would or not. That’s a lot of money but high school just sucks soooo bad.

I saw this on someone’s twitter the other day. I find it accurate.

That’s all for now. Maybe talk to you next week if I still have my sanity.

I just want free ice cream

17 Apr

Hey, it’s Wednesday. I kept thinking/hoping yesterday was Wednesday. I guess that’s what happens when last week we only had four days of class.

I realized this was the first weekend I’ve been in Springfield since the beginning of March. I volunteered early on Saturday, from 8:00-10:00, so I celebrated having the whole day ahead of me by taking a nap for two hours. Then I got to work on an assignment which was basically a visual representation of a resume, created to look like an advertisement. That was for my Principles of Advertising and Public Relations class.

I had a plan and I went to the Mac Lab to try and use Photoshop. I’ve used Photoshop before but not in a while. After it took me one hour to draw a single square onscreen, I called it quits.  Also, using Mac computers seriously make me feel like Helen Keller.

This week is our “Spring Fling” week so I just got a cute free t-shirt. Tonight they are sponsoring an event at Andy’s Frozen Custard – free ice cream to the first 400 Drury students. So I probably can’t pass that up.

Tomorrow is “Theme Day” which is the culmination of our convocation series for the year. This year’s was called “Voices Unbound” which means that every Thursday we had a speaker come to campus and present, and these guests had to do with journalism or communication through media. Some of the guests included: Andy Carvin, senior strategist at NPR; Brian Stelter, New York Times journalist; and Ondi Timoner, a film producer whose work has won Sundance Film Festival awards.

My media writing professor is the one who organized it this year and tomorrow we are having a woman named Roxana Saberi come talk. She is an American journalist who got arrested in Iran a few years ago. Anyway, my professor invited me and two other students from his classes to a lunch with her! I didn’t know anything about it but I was happy that he asked me.

I don’t have any classes tomorrow because usually I have two Spanish classes but my professor is going out of town for a conference. Friday my two afternoon classes are canceled but I don’t remember why. I am going to St. Louis with Caitlin for the weekend so I can see her house so that will be fun.

That’s all!

ONLY A FEW MORE WEEKS.

Librarian 4 Life.

2 Apr

Everything is right in the world because I am once again working in a library. Today was my first day and I went through a computer program that refreshed me on shelving (MU uses library of congress, but at Jewell they used Dewey Decimal) and I put 3 carts of books in order. The 4 hours actually went by pretty quickly and I think I’m going to like this job.

Friday Meiguan and I road tripped to St. Louis to visit one of our friends from Jewell Mary Ann. When we got there she was in an interview, so we killed time by going to target and trying White Castle for the first time. Those tiny burgers were pretty disturbing and I am confident in saying I won’t be eating there again. Then we met her at her house and headed out for St. Louisian adventures. First, we went to a pretzel place called Gus’s Pretzels. They were cheap and delicious and I really wish we had one here. Next we went to the Zoo because its free and we got to see penguins, giraffes, elephants, and various baby animals (How did they get so tiny!?!). After that we went to visit the good ole’ arch and took lots of various arch pictures. Let me just tell you that I am the master of self timer… even if it means having to use a trash can and getting my face dangerously close to garbage. We finished the day by going to an ice cream place called Ted Drewes. I got a pineapple sundae, which was delicious, and then we drove 4 hours back to Indep.

Saturday my uncle got us free tickets to the Sporting KC game so me, Gentry, Kellan, and my cousin went to that. Watching it really made me miss playing soccer! After the game we went to my aunt and uncles house and chilled in their hot tub for a while and me and Gentry stayed in their guest house.

Sunday was Easter and we had lunch at my Grandma’s house. I love all holidays because of the copious amounts of delicious food I get to consume. We had ham, smoked turkey, rolls, vegies, cheesecakes, and strawberry pie (there was more, but that’s just what I ate lol). I especially like Easter because I get to hide the eggs for Max and Sam’s Easter egg hunt. This year I put one in a rose bush and after Sam grabbed it he got really upset and started ranting about who would put an Egg in a bush with thorns and how he really hurt himself. It was hilarious.

I have a Biology test Wednesday night at 8:00pm and a Chemistry test Thursday morning at 8:00am, so that pretty much sucks. I really need to get to studying!

Keep it Classy.

P.S.  Who wants to go to Buzz under the Stars night one with me!? I really really want to go.
