Life

28 Mar

Hey friends. I know it’s been a long while. This semester has been getting the best of me. So, I’ll try to catch you guys up on what’s been happening since I last blogged.

Basically, I didn’t get into the nursing program at MU… again. And basically it sucks. But things happen for a reason and now I’ve just reevaluating my life and my future. Upon advising, I found out that I have about 2 semesters left until I complete my undergraduate degree if I switch to health sciences, an idea that is VERY APPEALING. This week, which is spring break, I visited my cousin. I just kind of opened up to her and explained what was going on. Mainly I just feel stuck in this rut and I’m so completely burnt out on school. If we’re being accurate, I’ve been burnt out since I graduated from high school. She suggested that I finish my degree as soon as possible and get the hell out of the Midwest. She said that if I’m having a “mid-life crisis” already in my early twenties, I need a change in my life because well the 20’s are where you find out who you are. You’re supposed to be living life, learning from mistakes, and not continually stressed out about what your future is going to be, and obviously that is not me. And I really have to agree. Lately, I just have been feeling kind of stuck, with school, with life, etc. I truly believe that nursing is what I want to do, but just not right now. My cousin said that if I am really feeling this way, I should take a break, because if I force it, I’m going to start hating it.

If everything works out/goes according to plan, I’ll hope to finish my bachelor’s in a year (possibly 1.5 years) and I’ll probably be moving to Boston (somewhere I’ve always wanted to go and it’s a place totally different from the Midwest), find a job out there and stay out there for a year/2 years/ x years, and eventually, maybe, move back to KC, because honestly I really do love KC. And somewhere in there I’ll probably see if I can get into a nursing program. I just need a break from what I’ve known. Of course a lot can happen in that time, so I guess we’ll just have to see what happens.

That being said, I still applied to CMU’s nursing program. They had talked it up, saying that people like me often get into their program, and if I get in, I’m not entirely sure if I will take it. My parents are going to be disappointed probably, but I just don’t want to force anything, you know? GOD, WHY IS LIFE IS SO HARD?

Anyway, other than that, Hy-Vee is becoming my 2nd home, reading the Divergent series is how I procrastinate my time, I’m currently obsessing over Theo James and Bastille, my grades are doing alright, and I am still loathing school. My spring break was cut short because I decided to work. And I spent one day working at the marina over break while I was home. I’m really excited to go back there actually, especially since most everyone I know will be there. That being said, summer will be here in a short 1.5 months, and I’m so EXCITED.

Thanks for reading/listening to me rant on about my life. Maybe you’ll hear from me again before the semester ends, but I can’t guarantee anything!

Peace out, girl scouts.

Worst Week Ever

4 Apr

This week has seriously been the most stressful week and the worst week I have ever experienced… like ever. Remember when I said that I hadn’t done anything academic all spring break? Well I definitely paid for that this week. I knew it was going to be bad, but I definitely underestimated the amount of sh*t I actually had to do.

My mom made me come back on Sunday because there was a chance of freezing rain in the morning when I would have probably left. Even though the chance went down to zero by the time I got back, I am glad she made me leave because I had an essay due Monday but I had left my textbook here and needed sources. I stayed up pretty late working on that. The prompt was kind of confusing so I emailed a TA for clarification but turns out they wouldn’t answer back until MONDAY because they too were on spring break. WHAT KIND OF CRAP IS THAT? They shouldn’t have assigned that paper during break and not answer questions until the day it was due. Anyway, I’m glad I wrote the paper the night before because I only had to change a few things to fit the rubric/criteria.

These past few days have mainly consisted of me of eating a lot of unhealthy food, cramming for tests, and running on minimal sleep. Wednesday I had my history exam which consisted of short answers and an essay. I really like the class, but really hate the tests. I think I did fairly well (at least I hope), but because it was all a handwritten test, it’s going to take forever and a day to get the scores back.  Today I had my social psych test and a communications and psychoanalytical nursing test. I studied a lot more for the psych test than I probably needed to and probably not enough for the nursing test. A lot of other people from my nursing class, however, also crammed for that test, some only a few hours before the exam. I skipped out on seeing the answers after the test because we had to work on our project/skit but I’m not sure I really wanted to see how I did…

THEN after taking all these tests today, I had a group research project for microbiology to do, which is due tomorrow, which I just got back from like an hour ago. It was interesting but definitely difficult. I’m just glad it’s over. And tonight I have one last assignment I have to do before my to-do list for this week is completely finished. Weeee.

Next week I will only have one test (THANK GOODNESS) on Tuesday for micro. So this weekend I will probably just keep on studying. But at least I will get to relax a little bit. The work load just never ends. Poop.

Hope your week has been better than mine!
Peace out!

Librarian 4 Life.

2 Apr

Everything is right in the world because I am once again working in a library. Today was my first day and I went through a computer program that refreshed me on shelving (MU uses library of congress, but at Jewell they used Dewey Decimal) and I put 3 carts of books in order. The 4 hours actually went by pretty quickly and I think I’m going to like this job.

Friday Meiguan and I road tripped to St. Louis to visit one of our friends from Jewell Mary Ann. When we got there she was in an interview, so we killed time by going to target and trying White Castle for the first time. Those tiny burgers were pretty disturbing and I am confident in saying I won’t be eating there again. Then we met her at her house and headed out for St. Louisian adventures. First, we went to a pretzel place called Gus’s Pretzels. They were cheap and delicious and I really wish we had one here. Next we went to the Zoo because its free and we got to see penguins, giraffes, elephants, and various baby animals (How did they get so tiny!?!). After that we went to visit the good ole’ arch and took lots of various arch pictures. Let me just tell you that I am the master of self timer… even if it means having to use a trash can and getting my face dangerously close to garbage. We finished the day by going to an ice cream place called Ted Drewes. I got a pineapple sundae, which was delicious, and then we drove 4 hours back to Indep.

Saturday my uncle got us free tickets to the Sporting KC game so me, Gentry, Kellan, and my cousin went to that. Watching it really made me miss playing soccer! After the game we went to my aunt and uncles house and chilled in their hot tub for a while and me and Gentry stayed in their guest house.

Sunday was Easter and we had lunch at my Grandma’s house. I love all holidays because of the copious amounts of delicious food I get to consume. We had ham, smoked turkey, rolls, vegies, cheesecakes, and strawberry pie (there was more, but that’s just what I ate lol). I especially like Easter because I get to hide the eggs for Max and Sam’s Easter egg hunt. This year I put one in a rose bush and after Sam grabbed it he got really upset and started ranting about who would put an Egg in a bush with thorns and how he really hurt himself. It was hilarious.

I have a Biology test Wednesday night at 8:00pm and a Chemistry test Thursday morning at 8:00am, so that pretty much sucks. I really need to get to studying!

Keep it Classy.

P.S.  Who wants to go to Buzz under the Stars night one with me!? I really really want to go.

Spring Breaking

28 Mar

This break started out pretty good. Once I came back, Emily and I went out to get Les Mis on DVD. It was a monumental moment (as I am sure you guys have gathered). I’d been saving gift cards so I could splurge on the most expensive version with all the bonus items… I got the edition with the collectible cards. You guys really shouldn’t be surprised. LOL. I’m not going to lie, I’ve probably watched that movie at least 15 times already.

Saturday I woke up with a sore throat. Not bueno. So I’ve been sick all week. My immune system has not been on its game this year. Anyway I ended up having a low grade fever for a couple days that was off and on. But I slept a lot. So that part was nice. I’m glad I didn’t have class this week because that would have sucked to have to worry about missing class and being sick.

Other things I did on Saturday:
-ate Dim Sum with my family
-went to the Asian market
-ate at Golden Corral for their all you can eat Prime Rib with my family
-watched it snowwwww! (ps. I’m getting tired of the snow now)
-had a Birthday Cake shake from HiBoy
-Hung out with you lovelies (except for that kid we never hear from anymore) and played spoons. LOL. Good times guys.

This is probably a bad thing, but I haven’t done anything academic until today. Meh. Oh well. I’ll get it done eventually.

Tomorrow Kendyl and I are road-tripping to St. Louis to visit an old WJC friend for the day. I’m actually really excited about it since we haven’t seen her in a while. Plus I haven’t visited St. Louis in a while either since I was like 10 (unless you count those few hours we waited in the Amtrak station going to and from Chicago).

After tomorrow, break will pretty much be over. That’s depressing. But then only 2 months until summer! Yay!

I think that’s it for this week.
Peace Out!

Non-sequitur

27 Mar

I’m back at school, how unfortunate.

Nothing monumental has been going on this week. I mean I just saw all of you on Saturday night (well except for Nick) (wait, who’s Nick?) so that was awesome. I stayed up until 2:30 last night studying for my Foundations of Communication Theory test today but I still couldn’t answer:
1) Organizational culture is ______.
2) Organizational culture is ______.
3) Organizational culture is ______.
I was supposed to write in three different words but I didn’t know them.

I got an iPhone. You all know that. I still feel like I should document it somehow. Here’s a list of all the apps I’ve gotten so far (in no particular order, other than the order that they are on my screens): Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Flashlight, Bible, Foursquare, Hanging with Friends, Draw Something, Skype, eBay, Sudoku, YouTube, Vine, Pinterest, Yelp, Translator, and Quick Scan. There isn’t a Jodi Arias trial app.

I’m really tired. I have to work on my group paper tonight with the people that live next door. I just wrote “tonight” as “two night” in that last sentence so I went back and changed it. Yikes. Two of my roommates are mad at each other (K and D) which makes it awkward because they keep talking to me and Caitlin about each other and we don’t know what to say. Now we have two gerbils. They’re both boys so luckily it can’t become a gerbil breeding ground up in here.

I’m wearing neon pink socks today and I have decided that I really like my haircut that I got on Thursday. At first I was indifferent but now I’ve decided it’s a positive change. Tonight I’ll find out where my housing group for next year (once I get back from London) is living. We’re 7th on the priority list, and there are 4 University Suites (our first choice) and 3 Benton houses (our second choice) open.

I am sorry this was so non-sequitur. But I think it’s because I’m so tired and just trying to get through the week before I can go back home for Easter.

As Derek once said, peace to your dreadlocks.

Cathy

One day more.

21 Mar

One more dawn, one more day until I’m free for a whole week! Yep. Spring break is pretty much here. Actually it has kind of sort of been here all week. I’ve had the hardest time staying focused on anything academic. I’m pretty sure I took a nap every day this week, except for today since I was on campus until 6:30. And I’ve been doing laundry/packing/watching Scrubs since I got back. I hate Thursdays.

Anyway, long story short, we’re not going to Colorado. Although I was/am quite disappointed (I was really starting to miss those mountains), it’s probably for the best that I won’t be spending 20 hours on the road. Truth be told, I really need to study for the 3 tests I have the week after break. But Kendyl and I are planning on taking a short road trip one day this week, so that should relieve our road-trip craving.

Today in microbiology we were talking about allergies/hypersensitivities. This was a meme that was featured in the presentation. If only I could actually pet cats… Ai ya. 😦

Also tomorrow, Les Mis is coming out on DVD!!!!! I think that’s enough said.

Peace out!
-Megan

Spring Breaker

20 Mar

It’s Wednesday of my spring break and I’m really sad because it’s already almost over. I guess I’ll just relive some of my memories from this week by telling you guys about them.

Saturday – got home around 4:30, Carrie and her friend Maureen got home from the Sporting KC game, we had dinner, we watched the Wizards of Waverly Place movie, played Mario Kart, Maureen left, and then I went over to Morgan’s at 10:15 and saw all the girls 🙂

Sunday – went to church, played Mario Kart with Carrie for a good chunk of the day, don’t remember what I did, then we couldn’t find anything good on TV so my dad put on C-SPAN (aka the most boring channel ever) which had a 2.5 hour special from 1999 about James Monroe. That really made us laugh. We watched it until the end.

Monday – I slept until about 11:30 and then watched the Jodi Arias trial. In the afternoon I went out to the square and put in some job applications for the summer. Carrie came home from school and we played some more Mario Kart. Then, that night, there was a C-SPAN special about James Monroe’s wife and John Quincy Adams’ wife. This show was live, and they were taking calls so we tried to call in to see if we could get on the air to ask a question. Carrie and I were both calling and she finally got through to an operator! The woman asked us to say our question, and to stay on the line and they would put us on air shortly. After about 8 minutes, they were done with the Elizabeth Monroe segment so we never got to ask our question 😦

Tuesday – I woke up “early” at 10:00 and my mom and I went to the Verizon store to look at SMARTPHONES!! I definitely put my persuasive skills into action this week. We decided on the iPhone 4 which would be free with our upgrade, but Becky isn’t home so we wouldn’t be able to activate all of them at the same time which is cheaper or something. She’ll be home on Friday so we’ll go and get them then. Then my mom and I went to Cheddar’s for lunch and then to Hobby Lobby. I had a headache most of the day so then I took a 2 hour nap (oops). When I came downstairs, Carrie and I played MarioKart. Then I went to Bunco with my mom! I had the most wins so I won $18! Luckily then I had enough money to pay back the $10 I borrowed from Carrie to put in the pot.

Wednesday – Today I haven’t done anything except take a shower and right now I’m watching the episode of Dance Moms I missed last night.

Cathy

P.S. I’ve seen Selena Gomez on both David Letterman and Jimmy Fallon this week promoting her new movie Spring Breakers, so that’s where I got this blog title. The more important thing, though, is that last night she did a duet with Jimmy Fallon called “Mario Kart Love Song” which is very appropriate for this post as well.

Spring Time Happenings

14 Mar

I really can’t believe that another week is pretty much over. It’s crazy to think that I’ll soon be starting my third year of college in August. It makes me feel so old. Only 40-some-odd days left this school year!

Anyway, this week I pretty much forgot that I had to register for classes. So for like 2 days I was freaking out because I didn’t know what exactly I was supposed to be taking. Next semester I’ll have the good ole 8ams for 4 out of the 5 days. Not looking forward to that since this semester I had a lot of late classes.

Since I basically stockpiled credits this semester, I kind of ran out of things to take. I only had 3 classes I was required to take, leaving me with only 11 credits and being completely under full time. So I spent a good 2 hours or so trying to find and elective that I would be interested in. Harry Potter class was completely full, that was depressing. I thought about taking an Asian studies class, but thought… mehhh, better not. And I even thought about taking another English class, but I was like, mehhhh, not feeling like reading and writing papers. So I ended up looking at music for non-majors (go figure, right?). I actually thought about taking studio lessons for violin again but I was just thinking about how much I hate practicing, plus you have juries, blah. Not going to lie though, I kind of miss all of that, and playing in symphony with Bryan Busby.

Spring break is next week! I can’t wait!! It’s mainly because the Les Mis extended soundtrack and DVD are being released, but also because COLORADO and I get to go home. And also I’ll get to sleep in. But I will probably be studying a lot. Professors think they’re so clever putting tests the week AFTER spring break. Little do they know all other professors are doing the same.

Also, yesterday I went to an AA meeting for my nursing class. That was an interesting experience and was actually kind of eye opening. I did have to introduce myself, that was a little bit querd. But thankfully there were other students there from my class so it ended up being okay. Haha.

I hope you all had some time to get out and enjoy the nice weather today! Except if you live in Findland, or other cold areas… 😦 lol!

-Megan

PS. A video for your enjoyment. I don’t know if you guys every used Boomwackers in elementary school music class… but this is pretty much an orchestra of Boomwackers!!

A Very Secret Gerbil

13 Mar

Great news: it’s almost spring break! I’ll be getting home on Saturday afternoon after volunteering at the animal shelter in the morning (and then showering, of course).

This week has slowed down a lot for me after the 3 weeks of insanity that I just had. But I’ve worked every day for the past week, and today is my first day off in quite a while. I’m going to use it to clean my room and get organized before I leave on Saturday. Just kidding, I’ll probably spend the afternoon watching the Jodi Arias trial (the court has been in recess since last Thursday) and the episode of Dance Moms I missed last night. That reminds me, the other day at work I found out that one of my co-workers also follows the Jodi Arias case. We had a very intellectual and detailed conversation about it for an hour. Too bad there were still 5 hours left of the shift and then we had nothing left to talk about…

Yesterday morning I had my 3rd London Orientation meeting. They brought in four girls who went to London this past fall to tell us about stuff. Have I mentioned yet that I’m sooooo excited? I remembered Stonehenge the other day and how much I’m totally going there. Also, it’s only $100 to go to Dublin, Ireland from London. It sounds like these girls kind of went to London just to travel and just so happened to have classes while they were there, but that wasn’t the main focus of the trip. That’s an attitude I plan on adopting as well. I think that means the main focus of my summer is going to be “working my butt off,” though. It’ll be worth it when/if I have enough money to do everything I want to do while I’m there! #168days

Stonehenge_in_HDR_02

The only two other noteworthy things:

1. Midterm grades came out last week and I got all As! And these are completely legit with no A-s like I sometimes get. I’m pretty sure this is my first time in college where I had straight As of any kind (minus or not) at any point in the semester (other than like the first week) so I’m pretty excited. And this once again affirms to me that I’m majoring in the right things because apparently I’m good at them too!

2. One of my roommates got a gerbil. She got it from one of the girls who lives downstairs, named Haley. Haley said she didn’t want the gerbil anymore because she “has commitment issues” and “doesn’t have time for it,” which I think are valid concerns but maybe if you are talking about a significant other rather than a small caged rodent. Anyway, I’m pretty happy about the gerbil because pets aren’t allowed and you guys know that I’m all about that rebellion life. I like it when we put it in its little ball and it rolls around the living room. Health and safety checks are next week during spring break though so it will have to temporarily relocate, I suppose.

Hope to see some of you soon!

Cathy

Better Late Than Never…

1 Mar

Hey guys.
Sorry for the delay. My life has been pretty swamped this week. Two test this week and of course I put off studying until the last minute for one test, so that meant I had to put off studying for the other test. And also I lost a lot of sleep because of it. I could probably blame these issues on the snow days throwing me off sync a little bit, but if we’re being honest, I just felt like procrastinating. And also Passion Pit/Matt & Kim concert didn’t help either. Definitely worth seeing them though!

On the topic of putting things off until last minute, I was so engrossed in studying this week that I forgot I had a paper due today at 6 until about 2:30 after I got back from class. Definitely hauled ass on that one. I spent about an hour just trying to format the paper into APA format. At Jewell we mainly used MLA. And I only ever recall using APA once in high school for anatomy. And let’s be honest, that class was pretty much a joke. I felt invincible turning it in 5:57. Living on the edge.

I’ve looked at my schedule and I pretty much have a test every week until the end of the semester (minus spring break and I think 2 random weeks w/out tests). Guess I better get used to it if I’m wanting to get into nursing school. My next test is on Tuesday. Microbiology. Gonna be a fun one to study for…

Sunday were the Oscars. And I always get pretty hyped up about those, but I was particularly hyped more so this year since my main obsession these days is Les Mis. I might or might have not teared up a bit when the whole cast sang One Day More. I was just so happy and excited! Judge me, don’t careeeeeee! It was so good! Also, I wish J-Law was my bfffffffl. Like really, she’s HILARIOUS. Who wouldn’t like to be her best friend?! Over all, I thought it was a pretty good show, if you don’t count those few awkward/bad jokes Seth Macfarlane made. PS. Sorry if I blew up your TF during the Oscars… Tweeting is sometimes my outlet for emotions. LOL.

Also this week, I was peer pressured by Kendyl into going to Colorado over spring break. But I’m not going to lie, I’m getting pretty excited about it. Although I’m not for sure how far out of my box I will go when it comes to getting on the slopes…. I’ll let you know! Haha!

Spring Break countdown: 21 days!! And I’m sure a lot of your guys’ countdown is less than that! You lucky ducks.

Peace Out!
-Megan

A Whole Lot of Crazy

27 Feb

Hey guys. It’s been a crazy week and a half, and I’ve got one more crazy week and a half until I’m in the clear. And then it’s one week until spring break. Say what?! That’s also crazy!

I can’t remember another time in college so far when I’ve been so busy.

My weekly schedule*:

Sunday: Work 10-3
Monday: Class until 3, work from 5:30-10
Tuesday: Class until 2, work from 3:00-7:30, watch Dance Moms from 8-9
Wednesday: Class until 3, Skype from 3:30-5:30, dinner from 5:30-6, Authentic Bible study from 9-10:30
Thursday: Class until 2, work from 5:30-10
Friday: Class until 3, sometimes class from 4:45-7, sometimes work from 5:30-10
Saturday: Volunteer from 10-12, sometimes work from 3-8

*All other times not accounted for = homework, showering, or sleeping**
** mostly homework

I have to admit though that I’m pretty proud of how I’ve been handling myself. I’m getting my shit together and really using my time wisely. And I am immensely lucky that I can work on homework at work, I seriously have the best type of job that a college student could ask for.

The only other thing I’ve been doing is watching the Jodi Arias trial when I can. It’s kind of weird how I got interested, but the café on campus kept showing it on the TVs on HLN (aka the Nancy Grace channel) for the past month, and I saw parts of it here and there.  Then on my ice-day (not snow day) on Thursday, I watched the first day of cross-examination. I’d say this case is similar in salience (a word I just learned while working on my 15-20 page research paper) to the Casey Anthony case, but not quite as big. (Going along with the theme of things that are crazy, I think Jodi Arias is crazy.)

And I have an announcement, for those of you who haven’t seen already: I finally declared my majors! Hip hip hooray!

Get Me a Pen!

Signing a lease on Tuesday say whaaaat!?

This is so crazy

So, that ^^^ happened last week. I still can’t believe that I can now say that I have a house! I only lease it, and the contract is just for one year, but I still feel accomplished and grown-up!

These past two weeks have all been pretty busy. Not many fun stories came out of them…. Well, I guess Valentines day was interesting. I woke up really sad, mostly because it was 9:30 and I had a tummy ache and I missed my class. But, I took on the day and put on my red sweatshirt and ate my breakfast alone. It was great. Then I had two other classes and one included a test. bleh. But, my teacher redeemed herself by giving us mini gummi bear packages when we finished the test. They were so cute that I couldn’t eat them for a day. Then I went straight to my house (even though it’s not technically my house until July 1, from now on it will be referred to as mine) and took pictures and talked to the girls who live there so I could get all the dirty details my landlord might have not disclosed. I for sure fell in love with the house again. Next, I was off to Zoe’s cafe to chit-chat with the girls I was to be living with so we could discuss finding our 6th roommate. (That is a super long story and is full of drama so I won’t bore you with that) Then, I was late to my own party! The Navs put on an event led by the event teams, of which I am a part of, and it was pretty neat. After the event, there was a dessert social and everybody brought chocolate treats. Once everyone left, which was about 10:45pm, I had a paper to write. Man, now that I think aboutit, my Valentines day was pretty sucky! ha! Anyways, the best part of Valentines day I didn’t even realize happened until the next day. The only things I ate were made of chocolate. I think I am going to start a new tradition of only eating chocolate things on that day, anyone with me?

The time between then and now has not stopped for an hour. Over the weekend, I met with a girl who was interested in being our 6th roommate and then communicated through email and text with my landlord about 20 times to finalize everything. Then Tuesday, February 19, 2013 I signed my first lease! Woop! Woop! I never stop going on Thursdays, and Friday I was on my way to Fort Collins for the Navs Laborers Conference. What an uplifting and knowledge filled weekend that was. I am so blessed to be a part of Navs and to have the opportunity to get off campus and spend time worshipping with hundreds of other college students who love the Lord. It is an experience I wish could happen more often.

And now it’s Monday night. I have my first Math exam tomorrow of which will consist of more paragraphs than numbers. My first big presentation for my Children’s Lit class is due tomorrow and I am super nervous about it. But, there is less than 3 weeks until Spring break! Although, I think it will be warmer here than in Independence… you guys are getting so much snow, this Colorado girl is jealous!

I hope you have lovely weeks and don’t get too stir crazy being snowed in and taking days off of school!

-Morgan

p.s. I would like to extend my sincerest apologies for not sending Valentines. Getting all of yours in the mail just made my day, and now I am very much regretting not being able to brighten your days as you did mine.

p.p.s.I didn’t re-read this, so don’t hate me and my horrible grammar and confusing sentences.

Let’s Mate, lawl

28 Mar

The last half of my spring break was a lot like the first: uneventful. But I loved every minute of it.
I got to hang out with Nick on the plaza on Saturday! Yay!

Sunday I left home at 4, and when I got back to school at 7 the sun was still out! Yay again! I was pretty happy to be back, not happy about the classes that would inevitably follow, but it is what it is.

Monday I found out that I got a 93% on my Spanish oral presentation – I’m very happy because that guy never gives A’s. If he does, it’s usually a 90. So 93 was quite welcome to my eyes. It was a pretty easy day in that class; since he’s from Argentina he made this big presentation about it and we got to hold a 1,000,000 (peso?) bill because he said inflation was so bad that he was a multimillionaire. Then he got out this suspicious little silver cup with a thick metal straw and told us about this drink called “mate” (no, not MATE like “the animals MATEd”, but mate pronounced like “mott-ay”). It looked like drugs. But anyway he said he drinks it every day and he said we could try it too. So he gave it to one girl and she was about to wipe off the straw and he said NONONO that’s a symbol of friendship when people all share the same straw. Anyway, whatever I drink wine after people at church so I decided to try it. It tasted NASTY. Well I don’t like tea so that probably didn’t help my perception of it. But I would not recommend it.

Monday night, some friends were having a surprise party for my ex-suitemate Alexis. It was at Springfield Incredible Pizza Company, and the price was incredible…Y HIGH!! But it was good, and we played some laser tag.

Yesterday was really fun, not really. It wasn’t too bad though. My photography teacher was surprisingly agreeable and OK’d all my prints on the second copy (after making some changes)… usually it takes 3 or 4 tries. But maybe he just knows we’re all starting to run out of paper. I had class until 3, and then Moritz and I finally skyped! That was so nice. The good news: His tests are finally over!!!!!! The bad news: that means like a week of solid partying (I won’t comment on that). The other bad news: his schools he applied to STILL haven’t received anything from him. Hmmm. But anyway, we got to talk a lot and it was super awesome.

Last night I went to an informational “mixer” about becoming a Drury Ambassador, AKA working with alumni when they come to visit. I didn’t really want to go but I decided to. You had to get invited and about 60 people showed up. They said they only wanted to get like 15-20 new people but you have to interview for it. So now after going I think it would be cool to get, but if not oh well I don’t really care.

Today I had advising with my alpha professor to pick my classes for next semester… FFFFFFFFFFFF. (Hint: I’m having a hard time choosing classes that don’t all meet at the same time. My professor suggested a class which would meet a requirement, which is from 3-4:30pm T/H, entitled, “The Bible, Sex, and Sexuality.” The class is taught by an openly gay woman professor who is also a devout Christian. Sounds interesting, but I don’t wanna be in class until 4:30! Hence, my pickyness regarding class times is causing my problems.)

Keep it real

Hey everybody, guess what? Spring break. That’s what I have right now.

It was much needed.

I made it through Thursday and Friday last week, and headed home around 11:15 am on Friday, getting home at about 2:15. On Friday night we went to a fish fry at St. Ann’s because we hadn’t gone to one in about 4 years so we went.

Saturday I slept until 11:30 which was glorious and then had St. Patrick’s Day lunch of corned beef and cabbage. Then my family went to the parade on the square which wasn’t really worth it because it only lasted 15 minutes but it was too nice outside to not go. We went to church at 5 on Saturday and then had dinner, and watched Super 8 on demand.

Sunday I slept some more. My dad had to go to work all day so my mom asked us if we wanted to go to the zoo. The last time we went to the zoo was during the summer of 2010 with Moritz and it cost the 5 of us like $75, but this time they had some thing where if you live in Jackson county it’s only like $5 each so it was only $20. We saw the polar bear, he was so cool. I have a photography assignment over landscapes to shoot over break but mostly I just took pictures of animals, sue me.

You can probably guess this but I slept until 10:45 on Monday. I apologize for highlighting what time I woke up every day but it’s just such an important thing that I can’t leave it out. I went to Hy-Vee and…. asked if I can have my job back for the summer. They said of course. I don’t really want to be a cashier again but I can do it for 2 months and I need the money, especially if I ever plan to pay my parents back for a certain $800 plane ticket… Then I went to the square and applied at Clinton’s and UpDog because if I could get another job that would be flipping sweet. I figured those might be places that would possibly be hiring for the summer since it gets kind of touristy over here. I wanted to apply at Yogurtini too but they said it was online. Moritz is coming on July 6 and I’m gonna need something to pass the time from May 9 when I get out of school until then.

Yesterday I seriously didn’t do anything. I woke up during the hour of 9:00 (wtf) and I watched tv shows on demand. Mostly it was Dance Moms. I have a strange addiction to that show, which is weird because I’ve never danced a day in my life. But that dance teacher is so dramatic. She kind of reminds me of Ms. Thompson but Ms. Thompson is much nicer. Also I watched Four Weddings. But the weather is so crappy that there’s nothing else to do. Kelvin asked if he could come get his movie while I’m home (he left a movie called Fantastic Mr. Fox in Springfield when he came to visit Graham. I never want to watch that movie, it looks effing creepy. But I brought it home with me during October in case he needed to get it from my family anytime. Well now I don’t know where it is and he wants it back so I kept telling him “come tomorrow” every day and “tomorrow” suddenly turned into yesterday.)

Today I went to Kohl’s and Marshall’s with my mom to buy some sandals. Then we went to Cherry Berry because it’s right there on 39th St. Cherry Berry is just like Yogurtini, Yogurtopia, Peach Wave, Orange Leaf, etc… only with a different color scheme (red and green). So apparently I have no loyalty to these places because I just get yogurt wherever it’s convenient. One thing I will say about Cherry Berry is that their yogurt did not melt one single bit during the time I was eating it.

Guess which one's mine?

Moritz had 3 of his 4 big tests this week, and his last one is on Monday! YAY!!!!

In other news, my mom told me she had a message on the answering machine that there were shots fired in Chrisman’s parking lot last night. Classy Chrisman. Why are you so classy?

Spring Break is almost hereeee.

8 Mar

Hey guys. Guess what. It sucks not having a car. Tomorrow my mom is coming to pick me up after she gets off work because my cousin’s car is still not fixed. Hopefully I’ll have it back by the weekend or shits bout to go down.

Besides that news, not too much has happened to me this week.  I peed in a cup as well. Donated some blood today at school (there was a technician guy that looked an awful lot like Andy Roddick, but more football-player-ey rather than tennis player). On Tuesday I basically went to symphony rehearsals for no reason because I’m not playing the piece that they played because I’m not at that level yet…. yeah. But I suffered through the sight reading and it felt like I only played 30 measures of the 15 paged piece. They’re playing another piece for the next concert that I should be able to play, since it’s not as difficult.

Tomorrow I’m going to leave my psych class like 10 minutes early because there’s a chinese australian violinist (his name is Ray Chen, if you were wondering… at all. lol) that’s giving a masterclass. So I’m going to see that because 1)he’s chinese, 2)he’s a violinist,  3) he has an accent, and 4) because he’s a pretty good looking chinese violinist (“good looking” and “chinese” are rarely ever in the same sentence when it comes to chinese males). Also he’s going to eat lunch with some music students so I might go to lunch for that. AHHH. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little bit excited. He’s giving a free performance at the Kauffman Performing Arts Center on Sunday so I’m going to go see that probably with my Dad and Step-Mom. Super stoked for that too!

Spring break officially begins next week. And to be honest, it has been long overdue. I’ve had too many late nights to count. My cousin comes into town next weekend so I’ll be spending some time with her to catch up and whatnot before I have to come back to school. And me and Kens are planning on taking a road trip to Columbia to see Lei at her GParent’s house. But for the most part, I’ll be sleeping in a lot. Except for Tuesday because One Direction will be on the Today Show, so I’ll probably be up for that! 🙂

Hope all’s well, broskis!

Weekly update time!

Now normally, I would type up a day-by-day recall of my week: but this week has been most uneventful. Seriously. I didn’t go to many classes because I have not been feeling well and could not get good sleep when my eyes finally would close. I think this was caused by my stressed out Sunday.. I spent most of my Sunday worrying about sharing my story/testimony with my Bible study group and then it didn’t go as well as I had hoped so I was bummed then just became restless I suppose.

The stuff that actually was cool I will tell you about here > So Friday I went to see a musical put on by my school called Ragtime. It was a great production, and now more than ever I want to play Glinda the Good Witch in Wicked on Broadway. Saturday I missed brunch (this is very sad because they had bacon) but I did go to the senior night for our girl’s basketball team. We won and now the girls are in second seed in the Big Sky conference post-season tournament. Wish our boys were better. Saturday night, Kendal and I went to church and heard a great message about Rest in God, kind of just what I needed to hear. Then Sunday= Game Day! I have been a little nervous about the abilities of our team, but we started the season with a win! Well, really the other team didn’t show up until I had already signed the paper saying they forfeited and we won… but we scrimmaged them anyways and I’m pretty sure we either won or tied. They seemed pretty put together too… and their goalie was wearing awesome sunglasses the whole time which just made everything better. And now Megan, Holly, Tori, and I are going to Fort Collins for a pizza dinner at Beau Jo’s.

Looking forward too: Spring Break! Starts on Friday!! Also, I’m road tripping with Kelsey to Springfield to see Cathy! We are going to Lambert’s and I am pumped. Ooh ooh I’m starting my Ropes Course class on Monday! So exciting and nerve- wrecking at the same time. Can’t wait to be home though.

Random schmamdom: I made a bookmark out of pressed flowers from Valentines Day and I think it’s pretty neat. Also, March Madness starts so soon that I can hardly stand it another minute! March is the best only because it is filled with the sounds of whistles blowing, buzzers screaming, basketballs being dunked, screaming fans, crying fans, and upsets that will either make or break your ENTIRE bracket. (Like last year when Kansas lost in like round two and I had them winning it all in one bracket- never again my friends, never again!) I am super ultra sore again. This time it’s from kickboxing class.
