Rest In Pieces to My Summer

7 Aug

Well, the end of my summer is nigh. I’m down to 5 days until I leave for my semester in London now.

Last Sunday (July 28) was my last day at IHOP. Since then, I’ve been all about trying to have as much fun as I can with the people here that are important to me.

My family and I went camping in our backyard on Saturday night. We played 20 questions in the tent and Harry Potter Uno, just like always. On Sunday morning, we went to IHOP (not the one I worked at) for breakfast to celebrate my parents’ anniversary. It’s actually on August 19 (but we won’t all be around on the 19th this year) and we started the tradition of going on their anniversary 13 years ago in San Antonio, Texas, when we were on vacation there. That was back when you could be on vacation on August 19 because school didn’t start until September. Those were the days. Anyway I was definitely an expert on the menu when we went the other day. I didn’t even need to open mine to know what I wanted and I was able to counsel my family members on their breakfast choices by providing guidance and ingredient information.

Here are the things that Derek, Kendyl, Megan, and I did last week: went to Derek’s house, had breakfast at Burger King, almost went to a Silversun Pickups concert, changed our mind and went to a movie downtown, had homemade chow mein at Megan’s, went to World Market (world market, we’re talkin’ bout world market), had pie from Burger King, and made sushi just to name a few activities.

Yesterday was also a very fun friend-filled day. We (along with Gentry) went to the Kansas City Zoo and we rode the Skyfari. It was pretty fun, unfortunately it started getting pretty hot and then we really needed to get out of there. Then we took a trip to Oklahoma Joe’s Barbecue for lunch and all had the Z-Man sandwich except for Gentry. Lolz.

Later I invited them over to my house for dinner because we’ve eaten dinner a lot at Megan’s house this summer but not at mine. My mom made us stuffed shells and I made cupcakes. It was really nice sitting around the table and talking for hours. Also I learned how to do the cup song from Pitch Perfect.

I decorated these cupcakes with the UK flag 😉

These three will be visiting me in November! Love them ❤ #london2013

Well, there’s definitely more fun to come at the end of the week. Friday is Megan’s birthday and we’re going to have dinner and swim at Kendyl’s house, then go camping 😉 And Saturday night I’ll go to the Sporting KC soccer game with my dad, just the two of us.  We went to a game last fall and it was awesome so I’m pretty excited for that too! 🙂

Don’t know if I’ll blog again before I leave for Europe, I doubt it 😉

Rest In Pieces to my summer (and to gray squirrel).

Librarian 4 Life.

2 Apr

Everything is right in the world because I am once again working in a library. Today was my first day and I went through a computer program that refreshed me on shelving (MU uses library of congress, but at Jewell they used Dewey Decimal) and I put 3 carts of books in order. The 4 hours actually went by pretty quickly and I think I’m going to like this job.

Friday Meiguan and I road tripped to St. Louis to visit one of our friends from Jewell Mary Ann. When we got there she was in an interview, so we killed time by going to target and trying White Castle for the first time. Those tiny burgers were pretty disturbing and I am confident in saying I won’t be eating there again. Then we met her at her house and headed out for St. Louisian adventures. First, we went to a pretzel place called Gus’s Pretzels. They were cheap and delicious and I really wish we had one here. Next we went to the Zoo because its free and we got to see penguins, giraffes, elephants, and various baby animals (How did they get so tiny!?!). After that we went to visit the good ole’ arch and took lots of various arch pictures. Let me just tell you that I am the master of self timer… even if it means having to use a trash can and getting my face dangerously close to garbage. We finished the day by going to an ice cream place called Ted Drewes. I got a pineapple sundae, which was delicious, and then we drove 4 hours back to Indep.

Saturday my uncle got us free tickets to the Sporting KC game so me, Gentry, Kellan, and my cousin went to that. Watching it really made me miss playing soccer! After the game we went to my aunt and uncles house and chilled in their hot tub for a while and me and Gentry stayed in their guest house.

Sunday was Easter and we had lunch at my Grandma’s house. I love all holidays because of the copious amounts of delicious food I get to consume. We had ham, smoked turkey, rolls, vegies, cheesecakes, and strawberry pie (there was more, but that’s just what I ate lol). I especially like Easter because I get to hide the eggs for Max and Sam’s Easter egg hunt. This year I put one in a rose bush and after Sam grabbed it he got really upset and started ranting about who would put an Egg in a bush with thorns and how he really hurt himself. It was hilarious.

I have a Biology test Wednesday night at 8:00pm and a Chemistry test Thursday morning at 8:00am, so that pretty much sucks. I really need to get to studying!

Keep it Classy.

P.S.  Who wants to go to Buzz under the Stars night one with me!? I really really want to go.

Spring Breaker

20 Mar

It’s Wednesday of my spring break and I’m really sad because it’s already almost over. I guess I’ll just relive some of my memories from this week by telling you guys about them.

Saturday – got home around 4:30, Carrie and her friend Maureen got home from the Sporting KC game, we had dinner, we watched the Wizards of Waverly Place movie, played Mario Kart, Maureen left, and then I went over to Morgan’s at 10:15 and saw all the girls 🙂

Sunday – went to church, played Mario Kart with Carrie for a good chunk of the day, don’t remember what I did, then we couldn’t find anything good on TV so my dad put on C-SPAN (aka the most boring channel ever) which had a 2.5 hour special from 1999 about James Monroe. That really made us laugh. We watched it until the end.

Monday – I slept until about 11:30 and then watched the Jodi Arias trial. In the afternoon I went out to the square and put in some job applications for the summer. Carrie came home from school and we played some more Mario Kart. Then, that night, there was a C-SPAN special about James Monroe’s wife and John Quincy Adams’ wife. This show was live, and they were taking calls so we tried to call in to see if we could get on the air to ask a question. Carrie and I were both calling and she finally got through to an operator! The woman asked us to say our question, and to stay on the line and they would put us on air shortly. After about 8 minutes, they were done with the Elizabeth Monroe segment so we never got to ask our question 😦

Tuesday – I woke up “early” at 10:00 and my mom and I went to the Verizon store to look at SMARTPHONES!! I definitely put my persuasive skills into action this week. We decided on the iPhone 4 which would be free with our upgrade, but Becky isn’t home so we wouldn’t be able to activate all of them at the same time which is cheaper or something. She’ll be home on Friday so we’ll go and get them then. Then my mom and I went to Cheddar’s for lunch and then to Hobby Lobby. I had a headache most of the day so then I took a 2 hour nap (oops). When I came downstairs, Carrie and I played MarioKart. Then I went to Bunco with my mom! I had the most wins so I won $18! Luckily then I had enough money to pay back the $10 I borrowed from Carrie to put in the pot.

Wednesday – Today I haven’t done anything except take a shower and right now I’m watching the episode of Dance Moms I missed last night.

P.S. I’ve seen Selena Gomez on both David Letterman and Jimmy Fallon this week promoting her new movie Spring Breakers, so that’s where I got this blog title. The more important thing, though, is that last night she did a duet with Jimmy Fallon called “Mario Kart Love Song” which is very appropriate for this post as well.

Adios Cordera

3 Oct

Hello everyone. I’ll just start off by saying it hasn’t been a very great week collectively speaking, but hopefully from today onward it will begin to turn around.

Friday I went home after my calculus test and I went to the Sporting KC game with my dad (the tickets were his father’s day present.) Since my whole family except for me got to go and sit in the owner’s box for free last year, I thought that I should get to go even though my tickets weren’t free. We were only about 7 rows from the front and it was waaaay fun. I want to go again sometime! Also we saw Mrs. Kuiper there and I talked to her for a few minutes.

One of my personal favorites about the game was the two people who were shown on the big screen wearing these masks:

They were in the “super fan” area, and I was able to find them in the crowd from where I was sitting. They left their masks on during the whole game. Could they even see? I’m not sure what the unicorn-Sporting KC correlation could be, unless it was because Unicorns -> Magical -> Wizards -> KC Wizards -> Sporting KC.

Also, did you know this about the logo? I didn’t. My dad told me and then the guy next to him asked him to explain it to him.

Saturday I went shopping with my mom because she had a bunch of Kohl’s Cash. I got some new shoes and a pair of pants. We went out to lunch. And on Saturday night I hung out with Nick (who promised he would blog about our adventures, let’s hold him to that.)

Sunday afternoon I came back to school, and that’s when I really started having a bad week. I haven’t been eating anything and I’ve just felt really anxious and sick and everything. It’s no bueno. But the good thing is I got an 84% on my calculus test, I don’t remember the last time I passed one of those.

Also, my mom bought my plane ticket for me on Monday – I’ll go to Germany from Dec. 21 to January 13! Supps excited!

Which reminds me that next week I have orientation for my new job on Monday; Wednesday is CPR & First Aid training; and the following week is job training. I’m ready to make some paypuh (which will incidentally go into my parents’ bank but whatevs.)

This was uncharacteristically short but I don’t have much else to say, except Adios (Cordera) (Which is the name of a story we read in Spanish class which I am now supposed to be writing a two-page reaction paper over)
