Hot Commodities.

5 Nov

I signed up for my classes yesterday and my schedule doesn’t seem too bad. I won’t have classes on Friday and very minimal classes Monday-Thursday because I’m taking all of my health science classes (7 credits) online.

Friday I drove home with Tristan so I could play in my last two indoor soccer games and Tristan even played (lol). Then after the games Megan and Derek came over and we ate pizza and Megan finished learning how to ride her bike! It was pretty cold so we got blankets and watched Megan conquer the art of bike riding under the stars (which might I add were really bright that evening).

Saturday I slept in because it was the first Saturday in forever that I wasn’t working! Then my mom took me to the post office to get international stamps because like I said in an earlier post stamps are a hot commodity. After that we picked up Tristan from home and took him to get a shot at CVS so he doesn’t get dirty dorm room diseases. After that we went to visit my Grandma since I wasn’t going to be able to go to her house for Sunday dinner. At about 3 we headed back to Columbia so we could go to the Mizzou Football game because Tristan had gotten me a ticket from his friend Jordan. We sat on a blacket in the grassy section behind the endzone and they won 31-3 Yiphee!

Sunday was relaxation/cleaning/homework/Chiefs are 9-0 day!!!

This weekend we are planning on going up to the farm because I won’t be able to over Thanksgiving break. I’ll be sure to take some photos of some quality Laughlin Angus cows for you guys.

P.S. I graduate in a little over a year and a month… SCARY.

P.P.S. I’m not even old enough to drink a fucking beer (lol Tristan #wombies)

P.P.P.S. Three hour saga 🙂

I need to do laundry

16 Oct

I just made the executive decision to blog today because Friday I’ll be in IRELAND!

This week has been kind of weird. Friday night we went to my favorite club. We pregamed in our room for once, instead of our guy friends’ room. I didn’t know if I’d be able to drink anything after my Bacardi Mishap of last weekend, but I got a good chaser and my friend Austin recited Shakespeare to me. He said people need a mantra for taking shots, like 3 lines of Shakespeare, but I told him that I only know “wherefore art thou Romeo” and so he said, “O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name” to me repeatedly. It worked! Listening to Shakespeare definitely made it go down easier.

We went out and got to the club after about an hour of wandering around and shouting “PANTY RAID” in various tube stations. Then my roommates almost got in a fist fight in the rain outside the club at 2am. They were both super drunk and Megan didn’t want to come home with us because she was with some guy, and she kept being really mean to Hanna and Madi. I’m surprised Hanna could even stand up. She was even drunker than Bethany that one night over the summer. LOL. She fell asleep so fast when we got home and was super hungover the next day. Megan came home at 4:30am and started shouting “I’m sorry!” the second she came in the door and crawled into bed with Hanna and asked her if she wanted to order a pizza.

The rest of this week has not been too noteworthy. Midterms. I get an A- or a B+ on every assignment. George wore a pink shirt and purple pants to class on Monday. That was the first time I’d gone to his class on Monday in 3 weeks. I ate cake, chocolate milk, and a chocolate bar for dinner. I hope I don’t fail my international relations midterm tomorrow because we haven’t learned ANYTHING all semester.

Other than that, the only thing I’m really concerned about right now is getting all my clothes washed before fall break, especially my underwear. Sharing 5 washers and 5 dryers between 150 kids who are about to go on vacation for 10 days is not an ideal situation, as I’m sure you can imagine.

Anyway, I’m super excited to go on my trip! I’ll try to send you guys postcards 🙂 I’ll blog again in about 2 weeks or so.

Have a great rest of your week!

Cathy

P.S. Yes I got a little schwastey last night at my home bar, The Metropolitan, in the presence of my friends Hanna, Carson, and GEORGE MY PROFESSOR. And I had a field trip with him this morning, but it wasn’t even awkward. It would have been more awkward if I had missed it 😉

El fin! Hasta enero, Springfield. Hasta pronto, amigos :-)

15 May

I am free! 🙂

This is a little bittersweet though. It’s been the best semester of college by far, potentially the best of my life ever. It was much needed after the worst semester of college and my life ever last semester. But this one has been awesome. I am a little sad it’s over and that I won’t see a lot of my friends and professors or be on Drury’s campus until January. But then I remember I’m going to LONDON in 3 months so I stop being sad pretty quick.

I actually haven’t been that stressed out this week. I’ve been stressed all semester, in a good way though. It kept me busy and kept me going all the time, but I just feel so satisfied when I check things off my list of things to do, so I’ve been managing my time really well. Considering how much I’ve been working, I’ve had to. So I never got panicked-stressed out.

Friday night we had our final Summit project presentations. Here’s me and my roommates outside our house wearing our Volunteer shirts we got from the shelter.

Today I had my final presentation of my research project. I still can’t believe that dang project that wouldn’t go away is… gone. If anyone’s interested in learning about Media Framing of the Sandy Hook Shooting and wants to read a 17-page paper about it, hit me up. My mom told me she thought it would be really boring but it kept her attention. So there’s a testimonial, if you’re skeptical.

I got my final grades for my two Spanish classes where I have an awesome teacher. 97.75% in Spanish 302 and 97.6% in Senior Seminar! I got a 98% on both of my final papers. The other day I was talking to my professor and she said I’ve really improved a lot and I am probably one of the ones who have improved the most.

Here’s a picture of me and my class at her house after the Iniciación ceremony for the Sigma Delta Pi honor society! Those little kids are another professor’s kids.

I’m really going to miss my Spanish class!

I don’t know what to do with myself now. Probably eat a lot of food, right? I’ve been having a lot of Chipotle and pizza lately.

Or maybe I should work on cleaning this:

room51513.

… Nah. I’m going to enjoy my freedom for now.

Here’s a list of some of the best things about this semester (no particular order):

  • Going to Atlanta to watch the basketball team win the national championship
  • Getting the outstanding sophomore in the communication department award
  • Eating dinner at my Spanish professor’s house with my class
  • Winning extra credit for our research poster
  • A cat named Georgie at the animal shelter
  • IPHONE
  • Getting prepared to go to London
  • Making new friends with people in my classes
  • Being addicted to the Jodi Arias trial (Guilty- first degree premeditated murder)
  • Going to St. Louis for a weekend with Caitlin
  • Not having any classes I hate
  • Not having calculus which is the ultimate class I hate

I’ll be home on Friday night, see you guys for Dirty Dancing on Saturday night! I’ll make some snakes. Oops I meant to say snacks, but it’s funny that I said snakes instead so I decided not to change it.

And t-minus six days until the Of Monsters and Men concert! That kind of snuck up on us, didn’t it? Hooray!

Cathy

P.S. Let’s come watch Andy Roddick play on the Springfield Lasers tennis team sometime this summer! I don’t really know anything about him but I know you guys do.

P.P.S. I’m still in shock it’s summer now. IT’S SUMMER RIGHT NOW. It feels like it was just last summer, right? I’m so excited for pie-worthy stories and sitting on the big rock at Bass Pro and being scared of creepy people and raccoons. Can we go camping on your property again, Kendyl? I wonder if Nick will be allowed this year.

P.P.P.S. How is it that we graduated from Chrisman 2 years ago? How is it that we just finished our SOPHOMORE YEAR OF COLLEGE?

thank goodness for dryer sheets

25 Apr

Not gonna lie – it’s a little difficult to type right now, on account of all the shit that is on top of my desk. By the way, I cleaned it on Sunday. Yes, it’s messy again. I would attribute this to the fact that I have about 0 motivation right now.

Seriously all I want to do is sleep. Went to bed on Monday night at 10:30 pm, woke up for class at 7:30 am, decided 9 hours was not enough, proceeded to go back to sleep until 10:30 and not go to class… and was tired all day. Wanted to go back to bed by 6:30.

My week has not been terribly eventful. Friday I job shadowed a really nice lady named Andrea, 2010 Drury grad (holla) which was fun and made me feel like I might actually know what I want to major in. Her job seemed really awesome. Friday night, Caitlin and I ordered pizza and made fudge and watched a movie. Saturday I slept in of course.

Then Saturday night I went downtown to a sketchy looking theater where my roommate was in a play called Enron, which is about an accounting scandal. Caitlin came too, because she is an accounting major and she helped tell me what was happening. That theater reminded me of the Tower of Terror haunted hotel at Disney World, we even had to take a creepy elevator to the fourth floor and everything was covered in ancient wallpaper. During the play, Clayton Worley (old debate partner) texted me to tell me that he wanted to date the Mallinsons’ German exchange student, Lisa… he wanted advice. Lolcatz.

After the play is when it gets interesting. There is a senior in my computer science class who is Indian and we are really good friends. He apparently throws really good parties (like so good the cops almost always get called), but I had never gone to one. He was having his last one on Saturday, and I got invited via private Facebook event, so I decided to go with Kayla because she’s on the party scene so I figured it wouldn’t be awkward. Well, I met up with her around 11:30 and she was with this Filipino guy who is apparently a swimmer, and she said “I’ve been at the swimmer party, let’s go back there for a while first.” So I was like, okay. We went back and she gave me something to drink in the ever-famous Red Solo Cup (it was Kool-aid and something else) but it tasted fine, and I was kind of like you know what, YOLO. It was super awkward and crowded at this party, and as soon as the clock struck 12, all the guys took off their shirts. I was kind of weirded out. At about 12:30 she said we could go to Anish’s and I was like okay!

We got to Anish’s house, which was like 100 yards away, and the atmosphere was way different. First, it was a house so it had a kitchen, with probably at least 50 bottles of different alcohol on the counter, and a living room with big stereos where everyone was dancing. There was also a blacklight and my dress looked super cool in it. I was way more comfortable at this party. Kayla was mostly paying attention to this Filipino guy so I wandered around and found… my roommate! Neither of us really parties so it was unexpected for us to see each other there. Kayla disappeared without telling me she was leaving but I didn’t really care because I knew more people there. After a while I wandered through the kitchen and Anish was there and told this guy who was apparently the drink mixer to make some shots for us. I trusted Anish enough to figure it wouldn’t be spiked with roofies. So anyway, I think mine was mostly Mountain Dew. I mean that was good, I definitely wasn’t drunk and honestly I don’t think anything I drank had any effect on me at all. Except I danced on a coffee table, but I promise it wasn’t as weird as it sounded. Everyone took turns doing it. Also, at one point I used the bathroom and there was no toilet paper, but the washer and dryer were in the bathroom and there were dryer sheets on the floor, so guess what I used? Tmi?

Around 2:30 the stereo overheated and I started talking to this other Indian guy who offered to walk me home so he did. And I thought he wanted to ask for my number so I asked if he had facebook and 10 minutes after I got inside, I had a friend request. Awks. I just accepted him yesterday because I figured two days was okay to wait, and today he messaged me “heyy” and I don’t think I’ll respond.

Overall, I had a really good time and I think this is something I will want to do more often next year. You just have to find the right environment. Too bad Anish is graduating.

In other news, Caitlin and I are going to Independence this weekend because Becky has prom and so I was planning to go home and Caitlin wanted to come with me. Also, my mom made me a last-minute dentist appointment because two of my teeth have felt uncharacteristically rough in the back and I am kind of paranoid about it and can’t wait a whole 3 weeks until my 6 month checkup. Good dental hygiene is muy importante.

I made a video about mustaches. I’ll enable you guys to watch it because it’s protected; I didn’t want to embarrass the people who are in it. Hahaha.

Enough of my rambling.

We’re almost done, dawgs.

Let’s Mate, lawl

28 Mar

The last half of my spring break was a lot like the first: uneventful. But I loved every minute of it.
I got to hang out with Nick on the plaza on Saturday! Yay!

Sunday I left home at 4, and when I got back to school at 7 the sun was still out! Yay again! I was pretty happy to be back, not happy about the classes that would inevitably follow, but it is what it is.

Monday I found out that I got a 93% on my Spanish oral presentation – I’m very happy because that guy never gives A’s. If he does, it’s usually a 90. So 93 was quite welcome to my eyes. It was a pretty easy day in that class; since he’s from Argentina he made this big presentation about it and we got to hold a 1,000,000 (peso?) bill because he said inflation was so bad that he was a multimillionaire. Then he got out this suspicious little silver cup with a thick metal straw and told us about this drink called “mate” (no, not MATE like “the animals MATEd”, but mate pronounced like “mott-ay”). It looked like drugs. But anyway he said he drinks it every day and he said we could try it too. So he gave it to one girl and she was about to wipe off the straw and he said NONONO that’s a symbol of friendship when people all share the same straw. Anyway, whatever I drink wine after people at church so I decided to try it. It tasted NASTY. Well I don’t like tea so that probably didn’t help my perception of it. But I would not recommend it.

Monday night, some friends were having a surprise party for my ex-suitemate Alexis. It was at Springfield Incredible Pizza Company, and the price was incredible…Y HIGH!! But it was good, and we played some laser tag.

Yesterday was really fun, not really. It wasn’t too bad though. My photography teacher was surprisingly agreeable and OK’d all my prints on the second copy (after making some changes)… usually it takes 3 or 4 tries. But maybe he just knows we’re all starting to run out of paper. I had class until 3, and then Moritz and I finally skyped! That was so nice. The good news: His tests are finally over!!!!!! The bad news: that means like a week of solid partying (I won’t comment on that). The other bad news: his schools he applied to STILL haven’t received anything from him. Hmmm. But anyway, we got to talk a lot and it was super awesome.

Last night I went to an informational “mixer” about becoming a Drury Ambassador, AKA working with alumni when they come to visit. I didn’t really want to go but I decided to. You had to get invited and about 60 people showed up. They said they only wanted to get like 15-20 new people but you have to interview for it. So now after going I think it would be cool to get, but if not oh well I don’t really care.

Today I had advising with my alpha professor to pick my classes for next semester… FFFFFFFFFFFF. (Hint: I’m having a hard time choosing classes that don’t all meet at the same time. My professor suggested a class which would meet a requirement, which is from 3-4:30pm T/H, entitled, “The Bible, Sex, and Sexuality.” The class is taught by an openly gay woman professor who is also a devout Christian. Sounds interesting, but I don’t wanna be in class until 4:30! Hence, my pickyness regarding class times is causing my problems.)

Keep it real

Cathy
