Life

28 Mar

Hey friends. I know it’s been a long while. This semester has been getting the best of me. So, I’ll try to catch you guys up on what’s been happening since I last blogged.

Basically, I didn’t get into the nursing program at MU… again. And basically it sucks. But things happen for a reason and now I’ve just reevaluating my life and my future. Upon advising, I found out that I have about 2 semesters left until I complete my undergraduate degree if I switch to health sciences, an idea that is VERY APPEALING. This week, which is spring break, I visited my cousin. I just kind of opened up to her and explained what was going on. Mainly I just feel stuck in this rut and I’m so completely burnt out on school. If we’re being accurate, I’ve been burnt out since I graduated from high school. She suggested that I finish my degree as soon as possible and get the hell out of the Midwest. She said that if I’m having a “mid-life crisis” already in my early twenties, I need a change in my life because well the 20’s are where you find out who you are. You’re supposed to be living life, learning from mistakes, and not continually stressed out about what your future is going to be, and obviously that is not me. And I really have to agree. Lately, I just have been feeling kind of stuck, with school, with life, etc. I truly believe that nursing is what I want to do, but just not right now. My cousin said that if I am really feeling this way, I should take a break, because if I force it, I’m going to start hating it.

If everything works out/goes according to plan, I’ll hope to finish my bachelor’s in a year (possibly 1.5 years) and I’ll probably be moving to Boston (somewhere I’ve always wanted to go and it’s a place totally different from the Midwest), find a job out there and stay out there for a year/2 years/ x years, and eventually, maybe, move back to KC, because honestly I really do love KC. And somewhere in there I’ll probably see if I can get into a nursing program. I just need a break from what I’ve known. Of course a lot can happen in that time, so I guess we’ll just have to see what happens.

That being said, I still applied to CMU’s nursing program. They had talked it up, saying that people like me often get into their program, and if I get in, I’m not entirely sure if I will take it. My parents are going to be disappointed probably, but I just don’t want to force anything, you know? GOD, WHY IS LIFE IS SO HARD?

Anyway, other than that, Hy-Vee is becoming my 2nd home, reading the Divergent series is how I procrastinate my time, I’m currently obsessing over Theo James and Bastille, my grades are doing alright, and I am still loathing school. My spring break was cut short because I decided to work. And I spent one day working at the marina over break while I was home. I’m really excited to go back there actually, especially since most everyone I know will be there. That being said, summer will be here in a short 1.5 months, and I’m so EXCITED.

Thanks for reading/listening to me rant on about my life. Maybe you’ll hear from me again before the semester ends, but I can’t guarantee anything!

Peace out, girl scouts.

Uneventful But Still Stressful

13 Feb

Sup friends. This week has been pretty uneventful for the most part. Here are a few highlights.

  • Sunday was my half birthday. Now I have a little less than 6 months until I can legitimately sing Taylor Swift’s 22 and understand what it means. LOL
  • Tuesday was Mizzou’s 175th birthday. Happy Birthday, Mizzou! Thanks for the free cake and t-shirt!
  • Also on Tuesday, I ran into my cousin in the bookstore and found out he has been a TA for the past year. NO ONE TELLS ME ANYTHING. Then I ran into Nick on the way to class after that.
  • Tuesday, I watched Shaun White become Sad Shaun White. I was pretty upset all day to be honest, especially since I spoiled the results for myself by scrolling through Twitter. Watching him fall was heartbreaking.  I blame the Russians and the damn slushy half pipe.
  • All week I’ve been running around like a crazy woman, trying to find someone to cover my demo shift on Saturday at HV since my dad and step-mom are coming into town.
  •  Today I found out I’m getting checker trained next week and I’m so happy! It’s been a long time coming.
  • I downloaded Flappy Bird before they took it off the app markets. I’m addicted. My high score right now is 47.
  • I’ve been really into Bastille lately. This is one of my favorite songs from them right now, although I’m not sure about the music video. LOL. How surprised are you that I’m into a British band?

Anyway, like Cathy, this next week is getting pretty busy. Along with having 3 shifts this next week at HV, I have an art project to start preparing/working on, a speech to research and write, a paper to start writing and a test to start studying for. And my online pathophysiology class starts next week too. EEEEEK.

Happy early Single’s Awareness day! And Happy early President’s day!

Peace out, girl scouts.

Busy Semester

30 Jan

Hey, friends. I apologize for being absent from the blog. I’m just finally getting settled into my routine.

Break was too short, as it always seems to be. I spent most of it watching Netflix, lounging, eating, and hanging out with you lot, of course. And I also learned to SKI. THAT WAS SO MUCH FUN. I also got a Tumblr, which was a bad idea because I already spend too much of my time on other forms of social media. Now this just further takes up my time and also feeds my unhealthy obsessions with Benedict Cumberbatch and the like.

School has been going smoothly. I’m taking classes at MU and Central Methodist. It’s kind of a long story but I’m at CMU so I can apply to their nursing school at the end of the semester. I’m currently at 17 credit hours, which is the most I have ever taken. However, the best part is that my classes don’t start until 11 and I have Fridays off!

I’m mainly taking electives at Mizzou because I’m waiting to get into nursing school. However, most of them are quite challenging and time consuming. Anyway I’m enrolled in Public Speaking, Intro to Art and Biology Lab at MU. I’m enrolled in 3 classes at CMU. Religion, Pathophysiology, and Literature. The later two are online and all 3 are prerequisites to apply for nursing at CMU.

My favorite classes so far are Public Speaking and Intro to Art. Both of my instructors (actually all of them) at MU are all Grad Students and they’re all pretty chill. I had to give a 3 minute speech the other day in Public Speaking and I’m pretty sure that was the worst 3 minutes of my life. I always get shaky and my face gets really hot (which probably means that it’s also super red) when I have to do something in front of a crowd. But I think I’m going to like that class because I get to write about what I want to talk about, not some analysis of a book that I didn’t want to read. My art class is 3 hours long, but it is definitely a nice stress reliever.

I’ve decided to cut back on hours at the good ol’ HV since I’m taking so many credits. I figured 10 is about good, but now I’m kind of regretting it because I really need money to pay for school/school things. But school is taking up a lot of time. It’s really a never ending cycle.

In terms of nursing school, I turned in my application on Monday. Interviews are next Friday. And in the midst of all of that, I already have a huge pile of projects and assignments to complete. Plus we’ve got birthdays to celebrate next week!! EEKKK!! We’re all getting so old! 😉

Peace out, girl scouts.

Megan

PS. HAPPY EARLY CHINESE NEW YEAR!! Not home for it this year unfortunately. #sadpanda

Finals Week

12 Dec

Hi friends!

My semester was officially over as of Tuesday. I had 4 finals within two days, 3 of them being on Tuesday. And my grades are looking to be pretty decent this semester. I know they probably could have been better if it weren’t for my extreme laziness. Seriously, this probably has been the hardest semester for me to get through, not because of course content, but lack of motivation. Anyway I’m in CoMo for a few more days because they require my courtseying at HV. Poo.

I don’t really have much to blog about since I’ve mainly just had a lot of free time and not very many responsibilities to fulfill. But here are some highlights of what my first free days of break:

  • Tuesday I worked in the deli department! They had a huge catering order for the hospital. I basically made cocktail sandwiches for 6 hours. And I used the slicer to slice tomatoes. I love using the slicer. I also worked with the new manager. He told me if I ever need extra hours to let him know. Might have to take him up on that. I miss them in the deli.
  • Today I caught up on the newest episodes of New Girl, and also watched Into The Wild, and Harry Potter 8.
  • Today I also went shopping and spent too much money. But I got some good deals! That’s always important.
  • My backpack still smells like coffee because some basics decided to spill their coffee on the floor during my Physiology final, and I didn’t notice it and set my backpack right in it, thus soaking the bottom of my backpack and the bottom of all the contents inside. I was peeved.
  • I had TWO decent length conversations with our attractive neighbor this week in the hallway. I’m always good at being awkward and saying awkward things, which makes for awkward times. And of course, I was looking pretty nast nast both times. WAHHHH.
  • I spent an extensive amount of time researching the Taylor Swift and Jake Gyllenhaal relationship. Mainly because RED is one of my favorite songs right now, and there were speculations that it’s about the T+J relationship. Did you know that the RED album is mostly about that relationship? Fun fact.
  • Benedict Cumberbatch is out promoting the newest Hobbit installment. So I’ve also spent an extensive amount of time YouTubeing those videos. It’s the only logical thing to do. He’s so awesome.

That’s all for this week.

Peace out, girl scouts.

Ready for London!

18 Nov

I am officially registered for classes next semester I am taking 15 credit hours and I am weirdly actually excited to go back to being a full-time student. I am only taking two classes this semester public speaking which I hate with a passion, and college mathematics which I actually somewhat enjoy. Mainly because my professor is awesome but I occasionally find the math I am being taught to be interesting instead of stupid and boring like normal.

I am starting to get stressed about what I want to major in even though I have another semester to decide. I pretty much think about what I want to major in and do with my life several times a day every day, and constantly change my mind  and consider different things as I get more stressed out in a never-ending cycle of me being undecided.

I am on my second week working in before and after school child care and its growing on me. Not sure how or why, considering I have never liked beings around kids even the slightest. But after a horrible first week things are starting to look up for my new job and I think I will be able to tolerate working it through the rest of the school year.

I spent last weekend visiting Meewan and Kendz at Mizzou, we had a small get together Friday night with some friends and one gigantic slore of a douche bag. Then Saturday morning Kendyl and I spent several hours sitting at McDonald’s to avoid some awkwardness back at the apartment. Then we spent the majority of the rest of the day recording our awesome debut album (torturing the neighbors with our singing). Lawlz. On Sunday we finished up planning for London, and went to the park on a 60 degree day (Its November wtf weather?) so Meewan could practice riding her bike.

And last WE LEAVE FOR LONDON FRIDAY.

I am literally excited for every part of this trip and I mean every part. From airport security to the flights there to seeing Cathy for the first time in months to the death stare Kendyl and I will give Megan when she tries to use her fake British accent and last to all  incredibly fun, weird and probs awkward times we are going to have in Europe. This trip will be LEGEND Wait for It DARY.

Peace, Love, and Happiness

We’re Going to Hogwarts!!

14 Nov

EIGHT DAYS. Tomorrow will be SEVEN DAYS. AKA… ONE WEEK!!

Yesterday we bought our tickets to Hogwarts. Well not literally because the fact of the matter is Hogwarts is fictional, unfortunately. 😦 But we are officially going to the Harry Potter Studio Tour and I couldn’t be more excited!! Also we’ve been researching tours for Stonehenge, and looking up different attractions for our other destinations. I really cannot believe it’s pretty much one week away. WHAT!???

On Tuesday, I attend a 4-handed piano recital for my music appreciation class. It was based on new age composition pieces. It was weird and so abstract, I didn’t really realize music could be that way. But I guess it was “weird” from my perspective because it was first of all, a type of music I’m not familiar with, thus pushing me out of my comfort zone. It was a new experience though and I didn’t particularly hate it.

This past weekend I worked at the HV. Sunday was probably the worst of the days. We started to get a rush around 9am. Someone came through the line buying various groceries and 2 glass jars of concentrated juice. They said plastic was fine, so I proceeded to place the jars in plastic, tear the bags off the hook, lift up said bags to put in the basket, and BAM. The plastic bag rips open at the bottom, jars fall out, crash to the floor and juice and glass ends up everywhere. Long story short, it took me at least an hour to clean it all up. After sweeping up the glass, I had to re-mop the floors at least 3 times because there was always one spot that I seemed not to notice was still sticky. Then I had to re-dry the floor 3 times since it was in a heavily trafficked area. Thankfully they let me go on break after that. It was rather embarrassing.

Tomorrow/this weekend we’re having a sort of get-together before we leave for Londey Lond. Derek is coming down, T-monies is making an appearance. And John is coming too, which is going to be the QUERDEST OF THE QUERDS. I’m so suppes suppes nerve nerve. I mean this has been going on since like July, but I didn’t think meeting up was ever literally going to happen. But it is. LIKE WHAT?!!

Peace out, girl scouts.

Don’t Cry Over Spilt Tiramisu.

12 Nov

“Don’t cry over spilt milk” doesn’t make sense to me because I don’t drink milk, but “don’t cry over spilt tiramisu” does because I have cried over spilt tiramisu. I’m not necessarily proud of it, but I’m definitely not ashamed. I spent 3 hours beautifully crafty this tiramisu, I even made the pound cake form scratch, and when I was dusting the top with cocoa powder I spilt almost all of it in the sink. So yes I cried, but I think the real moral of this story is that its ok to cry over something that you spent a lot of time on/tried really hard on/cared a great deal about that didn’t go your way, however the key is to not keep on crying. So I guess what I’m really trying to say is don’t cry more than once over spilt tiramisu. I just think this is a good analogy for life.

I would like it to be known that this is the third week in a row I have blogged. SHOCKING, I KNOW.

This weekend we went up to the farm to visit my Grandma and Uncle. We got there Friday evening and had dinner. While eating I dropped food on myself (surprise surprise) and was subsequently asked if I was dating anyone… Clearly No. Lol.

Saturday I woke up pretty early (for a Saturday at least) and went outside and walked around. My mom was putting some rocks in a flowerbed so I helped a little with that, road the four-wheeler, harassed the cows, played with the BB kitties, and took some pictures. After lunch I took a substantial nap during the Mizzou game, which they won! When I woke up I went outside and did some more of the previous stated activities and after dinner we drove back home.

Sunday I slept in (hooray!) and went with Gentry to run a few errands. We ended up going to Target twice, the mall, and Taco Bell. I mainly got mini-shampoos and things for LONDON 2013 (#10days). We then went to my Grandma’s house for Sunday night dinner.

10 Library shifts, 5 tests, 5 quizzes, 2 Lab reports, and 1 paper until the end of the semester!

Keep it Classy.

-Kendyl

P.S. This post is extremely random… just like my thought process.

P.P.S. Here’s a thing I found on Buzzfeed that I liked… I’m getting good at the whole angst-y 20 year old thing.

15 days.

7 Nov

15 days. THAT’S HOW MANY DAYS UNTIL LONDON. The other day I bought some milk and saw that the expiration date is on the 24th. Then I thought to myself, “Hum, this milk is going to expire when I’m in London.” Also, today my foreign monies came in for the trip. And earlier this week we booked our train tickets for Paris and Bruges. Also, today I watched Winning London on YouTube. I used to borrow it from the library all the time. Also my life will literally be this BuzzFeed article once we get to London.

Monday I had an advising meeting, which was kind of pointless. I just sat there and told my adviser what I had planned on taking because I don’t really have a set schedule of things I need to take since I’m just sort of wasting time. I’m kind of taking prerequisites for other nursing schools so I can also apply to them next semester. But as of right now, it looks like I’ll be at 14 credit hours Monday through Thursday, taking English 2, Med Term, Public Speaking, Biology Lab, and Foundations of Art. I tried so hard to get by with just 12 credits but it was difficult to with biology only being 2 credits. Beginning Chinese was an option but I decided against it since they meet every single day in conjunction with a one day a week lab, also it was 6 credits. O.o

I’ve come to the conclusion that I am so tired of school. My work ethic as well as my attendance in most of my classes has gone down a bit (the only class I haven’t skipped at least once this semester is my music appreciation class, which is the class I probably could actually skip because it’s so easy). And being completely honest, this is probably the laziest I’ve ever been. For example, yesterday I accomplished nothing, except for watching a lot of Netflix. I watched a couple episodes of Breaking Bad, rewatched an episode of Sherlock, and watched 21 & Over. Have you guys seen Say Anything? It’s an 80’s Rom-Com and I watched it yesterday too and it was the greatest. Anyway, if JR were to hold up a boom box at my window… LOL. JKJK. 😀

Peace out, girl scouts.

PS. Sorry for the mass rambling of this post. I didn’t really know what to write about this week.

Hot Commodities.

5 Nov

I signed up for my classes yesterday and my schedule doesn’t seem too bad. I won’t have classes on Friday and very minimal classes Monday-Thursday because I’m taking all of my health science classes (7 credits) online.

Friday I drove home with Tristan so I could play in my last two indoor soccer games and Tristan even played (lol). Then after the games Megan and Derek came over and we ate pizza and Megan finished learning how to ride her bike! It was pretty cold so we got blankets and watched Megan conquer the art of bike riding under the stars (which might I add were really bright that evening).

Saturday I slept in because it was the first Saturday in forever that I wasn’t working! Then my mom took me to the post office to get international stamps because like I said in an earlier post stamps are a hot commodity. After that we picked up Tristan from home and took him to get a shot at CVS so he doesn’t get dirty dorm room diseases. After that we went to visit my Grandma since I wasn’t going to be able to go to her house for Sunday dinner. At about 3 we headed back to Columbia so we could go to the Mizzou Football game because Tristan had gotten me a ticket from his friend Jordan. We sat on a blacket in the grassy section behind the endzone and they won 31-3 Yiphee!

Sunday was relaxation/cleaning/homework/Chiefs are 9-0 day!!!

This weekend we are planning on going up to the farm because I won’t be able to over Thanksgiving break. I’ll be sure to take some photos of some quality Laughlin Angus cows for you guys.

P.S. I graduate in a little over a year and a month… SCARY.

P.P.S. I’m not even old enough to drink a fucking beer (lol Tristan #wombies)

P.P.P.S. Three hour saga 🙂

Sophisticating my Palate.

30 Oct

I am currently eating my favorite chocolate cake ice cream, drinking coke zero and watching Gilmore Girls. Today was my day off so I studied quite a bit, but I still feel like I didn’t get very much done. I have two tests next week so I have some work to do!

Sunday was my last day working at Lake Jacomo Marina… probably ever. It was a little bittersweet because while sometimes I hated it most of the time it was actually pretty alright and working with Megan and Derek for two summers was pretty cool 🙂

This Friday I worked from 12-5pm and had an indoor soccer game which we lost 13-0. After that I went over to the house Gentry and I were dog/house sitting at (Bailey’s house btw that’s the dogs name). I have a real talent for making myself at home at other peoples houses. Then Saturday I worked from 9-5pm and that night we went over to Meguan’s house to plan for our London trip and watched SNL because that is now a 5-week tradition. It seems the only thing we have actually accomplished is booking a hostel in London. Then Sunday I worked from 7-3pm and at 5pm I went over to my Grandma’s house. I like Sunday evenings because my whole family gets together and we have dinner at my Grandma’s house. This week I ate brussel sprouts in an attempt to sophisticate my palate haha.

This weekend I plan on coming home Friday to play in two indoor soccer games and then drive back Saturday so I can go to the Mizzou football game!

Keep it Classy.

-Kendyl

P.S. It was a real struggle making myself write this post due to my laziness.

P.P.S. The Olympic countdown is also my birthday countdown! Yay! 100 days!

That Deli Life

10 Oct

Today was my 3rd day overall at HV.  The past two days, I’ve been working in the deli at HV. And being completely honest, I think I like it better at the deli, but I guess I don’t really have too much to go on. There’s just a lot more things to do in the deli. And not everything is “bitch work” because you’re new, which I kind of feel like that’s how it mostly is up front.

Yesterday I was trained, made hummus, made lots of sandwiches, and bagged lots of meats and cheese for customers. Today I did all afore-mentioned, minus the hummus, plus used the meat slicer. That was pretty interesting. My favorite thing to do in the deli though is probably use the sicker machine. You just punch in some numbers for the product, then BAM! It spits out the sticker label then you stick that on the product. Call me lame, don’t care.

Yesterday my cousin who works at HV came to get a sandwich. I don’t think he knew I had started working because he was surprised to see me, and I was kind of surprised to see him. But it was all exciting.

Most of the people I’ve been working with have been pretty cool and chill. I guess there isn’t a manager as of right now in the deli, so everything is pretty laxed. Also today, I accidentally used “suppes tired” in front of my new co-works and was judged hard core. LOL. After that happened, I basically said all of the abbreves I use. Probs, whateves, etc. but it’s cool though because they make fun of me too. Somethings never change. Haha.

Other than working at the deli, my week has been super stressful. I had two tests this week—one in my hardest class, the other in my easiest class. I stayed up really late for the first half of the week studying for the hardest test. Then after that I kind of was just like meh, but I think the second test turned out to be okay, so no worries there.

If I’m being completely honest, it’s been one of those weeks where it just sucks. I wish I could that things were better, but I can’t. Sometimes things happen, and maybe it happened for a reason, but it was a punch to the gut. I wanted it, but I don’t think I realized how much I desperately and whole-heartily wanted it until I was told I couldn’t have it. So now I’m basically back to square one. I just don’t know where I’m headed or what’s ahead. And every time I think about having to think about what I should do next, I just don’t want to think about it. You get me? I hate facing this reality. I hope things get better from here, because it sucks, guys. I guess it’s just one of those obstacles in life, huh?

Peace out, girl scouts.

Frustration Time

29 Sep

مرحبا

I have kept busy the last couple of weeks.

Good news: I have been accepted to go on a international trip for Alternative Breaks during Winter Break.
Bad news: I have no clue on earth how I will be able to pay for the trip or if it’s even possible (I reeaaally want to go!!).

Good News: I did well on my first Arabic exam.
Bad News: I now have two chapters of vocabulary I need to learn so I don’t fall behind; I’m also applying for a scholarship that is going to eat all the time out of my week, and I’m not a good writer, so I don’t know if it will be a complete waste of time.

Good News: I was productive today.
Bad News: I didn’t get nearly enough done today as I needed.

Good News: We’re almost half way through the semester.
Bad News: We’re not even half way through the semester.

I know this is a poor attempt at a blog, but I didn’t want to forget to post.

Good Lorde. I’m finally employed!

26 Sep

On Saturday we went to the Plaza Art Fair. We probably spent more time looking for a parking spot than we did actually looking at art. But in all honesty, it was pretty cool, like a classier SCG. What was cooler were the dogs everyone had brought with them. Some were so TINY and SO CUTE!! After we walked around for 30ish minutes, we were all starved, so we went to Oklahoma Joe’s. Can’t go wrong with a Z-Man.

My uncle from HK/NZ is in town to visit for two months, so on Sunday we had a HUGE family dinner. There were so many aswans in my house, and so much yum-yum in my tum-tums. I hope my mom continues these huge family dinners for the next few weeks because that’s when she cooks the really good stuff.

Also, as of yesterday at 3pm, I am officially employed at the local HV, guys. How cool is that?! Well it’s probably not that cool. I had to sit through a 3.5 hour orientation complete with 2 videos, lots of paper work, and a tour of the store. I’m actually kind of sort of excited to start, mainly for the paycheck though.  Next week I have sacker training. LOL. I’ll let you know how that goes.

Also yesterday, I got an email from my advisor with the subject line of “School of Nursing” that was marked with high importance by the little red exclamation mark. I avoided opening it until after my orientation at HV, because I wasn’t sure if I was going to be an emotional wreck. After putting it off, I get back and try to open it only for the infamous Hyde Park WiFi to be an enormous pile of you-know-what. Finally after what felt like a year the wifi worked long enough for me to open it. She was just letting everyone know that the School of Nursing’s phones were down and that they were trying to get the fixed asap. Yep. I was pissed. And I freaked out for nothing. Now I have to wait some more…

Tomorrow is BuzzBeachball. And I am SO excited. AHH!!

Also Lorde’s new album isn’t out yet but it’ streaming here, and it is soooooooooo AWESOME. I am literally obsessed with her and her new single Team. I have listened to it probably close to a bajillion times. Okay just kidding, I’m not even sure I know how much a bajillion is, but you get the idea.

Peace out, girl scouts.

Interview and Stuff.

19 Sep

Hey friends!

Thursday night/Friday in general was just a horribly stressful day(s). I had stayed up all night studying for my Physiology test. I took the test at 8am on Friday and was pretty confident I missed more than half of the questions (thankfully that wasn’t so). On Friday as well, I had my nursing interview.

I didn’t get a chance to nap after my test because well, I forgot that I needed to wear pantyhose since I was wearing a skirt to my interview, so I had to go shopping. I hate pantyhose. Anyway I got pantyhose, then came back home, practiced some of the things I was planning on saying so I’d be prepared, and then I had to get ready.

I got to the Nursing building about 15 minutes ahead of time and waited in the waiting room along with about 8 or so other girls. Frankenweenie was playing on the projector but I couldn’t pay attention to the movie for very long because I was so nervous, but there was pretty much constant activity of people coming back in from their interview or leaving for their interview, so that made it hard to focus, too. Then they called my name.

Once I sat down in the interview room, I could feel the adrenaline pumping through my veins and my heart beating out of my chest, not to mention sweaty palms. Yikes. But overall I think the interview went pretty well, especially after the first few minutes, and it was less intimidating than I thought it was going to be. I think it’s because I knew what I was going to say and how I was going to say it, and I knew what I wanted and why I wanted it. But I guess that’s from my own perspective, so we’ll have to see in a few weeks how everything turned out. *fingers crossed*

After the interview I drove back HOME-home and took a nap before I went to watch Kens and Derk’s indoor soccer game at SportsCity. Their team won!

I forgot to mention in my post last week that I had an encounter with Anthony! Some of you already knew this, but for those that didn’t, me and Kens had to drop something off at Derek’s before we left for CoMo on Sunday night. I took the back roads out which takes you out past BYB. As we drove by we saw his “bra-car” and we freaked out together and decided to drive by the drive-through window to see if he was working. He was. Long story short, we left to get gas, I was regretting not stopping to say something, we turned back around, went through the drive through, got waffle fries, and asked the cashier at the window if we could talk to Anthony. LOL. He came to the window and that conversation lasted a good 5 minutes or so. YOLO.

Peace out, girl scouts!
-Megan

PS. 64 days until LONDON!! And ONE WEEK AND ONE DAY UNTIL BUZZ BEACHBALL!! AHHHHHHHHH!

SUBtember

12 Sep

One day until my interview. AHHHHHHHHHH. I have not been able to stop thinking about this for the past few days. NERVES, NERVES, NERVES. :/

Also 70 days until London. WHAT?!  But I’m getting so excited!!

Speaking of London, last night I had a dream that Kendyl and I were eating Subway sandwiches on the London Bridge. That was pretty interesting.

Coincidentally I had Subway for lunch today. It’s SUBtember, so all foot long subs are FIVE DOLLARS! Five! Five Dollar! Five Dollar FOOT LOOOOONGS! It’s okay to admit that you sang the theme song of Subway in your head. I did it too as I was typing it out.

I also got an A on my first test of the semester. So that was a nice way to start out the semester. And today I took the first test for my music appreciation class. In our last class, our professor printed out an outline/study guide for us then proceeded to tell us we could write whatever we wanted on that sheet and use it on the test. So I think it went pretty well. The professor for that class is sarcastic and a pretty funny guy. Which is probably why he reminds me an awful lot of Mr. Ralston. But maybe it’s because they both teach/taught music appreciation… Haha!

Also White Russians are really tasty, but highly caloric and are probably not good for aswans to consume a lot of.

Also, tonight/tomorrow is pay day. WHOOT.

Anyway, must get back to studying for the physiology test tomorrow.

Peace out, girl scouts.

Mizzou Round Three

7 Sep

Hi friends! مَرحَباً

I’m about to start Week Four at Mizzou for my junior year. I have already had a blast thus far! ResLife (year two), Alternative Spring Break, Phi Sigma Pi, football games, Arabic, pre-med stuff, and emails are keeping me busy (I hate emails). I haven’t had any interesting ResLife stories to tell from this year yet (except for the girl and guy we walked in on during drills), but I’m desperately trying to avoid dealing with alcohol, nakedness, weed, and all other ungodly actions these children partake in. The football games aren’t in full swing yet, but I’m sure once they get going our butts will get whooped enough times for me to be tired of watching (Year Two in the SEC). I am taking Arabic (my favorite class), and I feel…unlearned. It’s a very interesting class, but I feel I’m at such a loss for information and experience that it’s overwhelming sometimes. Engineering – somehow I got stuck with the same professor as a year ago that plagiarized MIT tests, so that’s fun. We’ll just have to wait that out to know how it all turns out.

I hope you all are well, and I miss you all very much!

Short Post, Yo.

5 Sep

Alright guys, I’m going to make this short and sweet because I have a lot of other stuff I need to be doing.

Labor Day weekend was pretty much the worst because I basically worked all weekend, which will be nice on my wallet. Me, Kendyl and Derek also went to Santa Cali Gon on Saturday for like 30 minutes because there were way too many people there… and it was also super hot. Unfortunately I did not get my chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich because apparently their booth moved?!! But we did get to see some clay flowers so that was nice.

This week I turned in my nursing application. That’s 1/3 of the process. Next is the nursing interview, which is next Friday. AHHHHH!!! Yesterday I had a mock nursing interview and it went pretty well. The interviewer said that I did really well, so that gives me a little bit of a confidence boost, but I still need to practice practice practice! Also yesterday I bought tickets to 965’s Halloweenie Roast. I’m super excited to see The Naked and the Famous and The 1975. Derek is coming with and maybe Kendyl…??!! But other than that, nothing that exciting has been happening, except for me studying/doing homework/napping a lot. Next week I have three tests and of course the nursing interview and I will hopefully be orientated at Hy-Vee by then. Hopefully.

Also this week, I finally got a belated birthday card from my cousin in the mail. It was a One Direction card that folds out to be a mini One Direction poster. She’s the greatest.

Peace out, girl scouts.

PS. If Tristan doesn’t start blogging, I’m going to take Wednesdays, because Thursdays are usually a little bit busier for me compared to Wednesdays.

Tuesday is Mecca.

27 Aug

Tuesday is the only day of the week where I have no class, no work, and no obligations (well besides homework of course). So today I woke up listened to music, did an assignment, made chicken parmesan and pasta for lunch, watched a movie on Netflix, watered my Venus flytrap and cacti garden, went to Joann’s to get corkboard, went to Hy-Vee, went on a mission with Megan to find a Hammer to Wal-Mart, Dollar tree and the thrift store, bought a pair of rain boots for 6 dollars at said thrift store, ended up using a frying pan to hammer the nail into the wall, cleaned my room, and blogged. I LOVE Tuesday!!

Last week I worked 44 hours, which is more than I worked per week this summer. I worked 10 hours in the library and 34 hours at the marina. Megan and I might be a little bit insane for willingly working from 7am to 8pm both Saturday and Sunday, but $$$ is $$$.

This semester I am taking 14 credit hours and while that doesn’t seem like a lot, this will probably be my most difficult semester to date. I am taking Math 1100 (shout out to Megan and Cathy for saving my butt and helping me stay in the class), Physiology, Medical Terminology, and Health Science 4300 (a class solely about the Health care system in the US). The only class I currently hate is math because (1) we have homework due 3 days a week, (2) my teacher has a very thick accent and I have yet to see her smile, and (3) frankly I just hate math.

I am going to be graduating with my Health Sciences degree next fall and I still don’t know what I want to do after that. It’s up in the air whether I will apply for the physical therapy program. I have been seriously contemplating the idea of enrolling in the pastry/baking program at Johnson County Community College and taking some business classes in order to pursue my dream of opening a bakery. I feel like I am meant to be doing something that involves creativity where I get to call the shots and make decisions. It is really scary because I could choose a field where I would have great financial stability or I could choose to pursue something where there is a very high risk of failure. It really has me thinking.

Here are some pictures of my room:

Keep it Classy.

P.S. I am going to try to make and send cards out within the next 2 weeks… we’ll see how it goes. 🙂

P.P.S. Mediterranean Ave is also Mecca… sometimes. 😉

Year In Review

16 May

As of yesterday, my semester/year has finally ended, and to be honest it’s kind of bittersweet. Coming to Mizzou was never really a plan that I had planned on following through with. Though it’s been an adventure adjusting to this new environment, I feel like I made the right choice, and I hope that I’ll be able finish my education here (fingers crossed for nursing school!). That isn’t to say that I regret my year at Jewell, because I don’t. But I guess if there’s one thing I regret it’s not making the decision to come to Mizzou first, if that makes sense… Haha.

This Spring semester has most definitely, hands down, been the most challenging/stressful semester I have ever gone through. This week especially. I hate finals. It probably could almost classify as a miracle that I’ve even made it out alive. But still, for the most part I’ve enjoyed every class that I was in.

Here are some highlights/lessons learned/favorite memories of my year at Mizzou (in no particular order or importance).

  • Getting my first speeding ticket, also getting my first parking ticket (the latter was yesterday, when I almost missed my last final.)
  • Seeing Imagine Dragons preform… FOR FREE. And seeing Passion Pit and Matt & Kim for a small fee.
  • Being sick for 6 weeks. Not cool man. I’m better now though.
  • Microbiology 2800. I don’t care who you are/what your major is, you need to take this class to know the hilarity/awesomeness that is Dr. Furrer. Besides that, subject matter/teaching wise, it’s probably the best class I have ever taken. Ever.
  • Getting 2.5 snow days.
  • I can procrastinate like no body’s business. Thank you Netflix, FB, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest and Imgur. That being said, apparently my body can’t handle stress that is usually a result of procrastination very well (see point #3).
  • The closest I got to an all-nighter was sleeping only for 2 hours…. On many, many, many nights.
  • Ellis library is freaking awesome. Although scary as well (I’m sure librarian Kendyl could tell you more so than I can)
  • Getting a lot of free things, including shirts and lots of food.
  • Attractive male in my history class.  He was real attractive.
  • I miss music/violin more than I thought I would, probably one downside to coming to MU.
  • I’ve been able to appreciate my family and KC a lot more now that I’m 123 miles/1.5 hours away.
  • The basement of the Student Union has very comfy couches that are GREAT for naps.
  • I probably spent too much in the bookstore on clothing/apparel and books. Gosh I really hate buying books.
  • Never take a “5 minute nap” during a study break. It never ends up being 5 minutes, no matter how hard you try to make it last only 5 minutes.

I can’t believe that I’ve just finished my 2nd year of college. CRAZY!! However I’m getting super excited for summer! Even though I’m going to be so majorly busy, wahhhh!!

Peace out for now!
Megan

PS. Sorry Cathy for kind of copying the premise of your post!!

PPS. I just got a little depressed, guys. I googled Kansas City Explorers to find out their schedule this summer. I found out that they’re moving to Irving TX because there wasn’t enough corporate support in KC to keep there here. 😦

Mehh.

30 Apr

I don’t feel like writing or thinking, but I haven’t blogged in a while, so here it goes.

Lately I have been extremely busy. I have been working 12 hours at the library every week and then between 24 and 28 at the marina. The only day I have off from work are Wednesdays so I try to get all of my schoolwork done then. In the past 2 days I have only been to 1 out of 4 classes… oops.

I finished training at the library last week (which means shelving books in every area of the library) so now I get to listen to music while I shelve… It’s the little things. 🙂

Yesterday I drove my car up to Hearnes and then road the bus to work. After work when I get back to Hearnes I realize that I no longer had my car keys (which included my only two car keys, drivers license, both my debit cards, my MU id, and my work card). I had to get Megan to come get me and she took me to check in the library. Then we went to the MU police to see if anyone turned them in. MU police gave me the number for the main bus station, but they were closed for the evening so I had to wait and call back in the morning. In the meantime I had to cancel both of my debit cards, so no one could steal all of the money I just got paid last week. This morning I called the main station and got referred to the MU transportation office and I gave them a description of my keys. Then I road up to school for my class and asked the bus driver if she had anyone turn in a set of keys, but her radio wasn’t working so, she sent me to the bus across the street. When I started to ask this bus driver I barely got anything out before she pointed to my keys hanging on her rearview mirror. I can not tell you how happy I was to see them. Needless to say this was a very stressful, unneeded experience.

Also this video is Hilarious… and slightly explicit.

Keep it Classy.

-Kendyl

P.S. I just bought a hammock off of the Clymb… pretty stoaked about that.

P.P.S. I’m going to buy Dirty Dancing off of Amazon next. Can’t wait to see you all!

P.P.P.S. We need to go to a Royals game because they are actually pretty good this year!!
