More Sickness and Other Fun Stuff

25 Apr

Sorry for not blogging last week. I feel like a slacker. Not really. But you didn’t really miss much from my life as I was sick again with a pretty high fever and everything else that comes with being sick. I skipped class Tuesday and went home to see my regular doctor (Fun fact, he’s Chinese). My step-mom suggested it since I was already established there and if I went to a doctor here I’d have to go to a completely new place, start new paper work, blah blah blah, etc. It was just easier this way. Anyway they think it was a sinus infection so they gave me some antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. I stayed at home that night, skipped my 9am lab the next morning, and got back in time for my 12 o’clock history class. I’m feeling loads better now anyhow.

On Saturday I went to the Itzhak Perlman concert at the Kauffman Center. Yep. I saw probably one of the most famous violinists

Mr. Perlman  leaving the stage with accompanist and a standing-o from the audience.

preform. Nothing is really like a live performance, and that goes for any concert really. But this in particular was nothing short incredible. He’s a musical genius and makes a difficult talent look so easy. I’m so incredibly jealous of his abilities and seeing him preform definitely made me miss violin/being in symphony even more than I already have been missing it. I’m so glad I decided to buy a ticket to see him, even if I did go alone. Since it was Jewell sponsored event, I did see a lot of Jewell people, including a few of my old sorority sisters and even my high school orchestra director. Those moments were a little bit querd but it was nice to catch-up for a few moments.

While driving to the venue, I was about to turn onto the street of the Kauffman and noticied that a pretty decent sized group of the WBC were picketing. It was after thinking about it that I realized they were picketing the concert. I am a Christian but these people are wayyyyyyy off the mark on many things. I mean aren’t we all called to love no matter what? Isn’t the only person who can judge is God Himself? I mean IT’S JUST A CONCERT FOR GOODNESS SAKE. Really guys, stop your ridiculousness and go home.

At any rate, the days left in the semester keep dwindling and honestly I’m not exactly sure how I feel about it. I sooooooooo badly want it to be summer already, where I won’t have to worry about school and can actually get a decent night’s rest. But that being said, I also don’t want to be thinking about the millions of things I still have to do and the million and 50 things I have to study before the end of the semester. The end of the semester has crept up on me and I’m so not ready for it. Pray I don’t get sick again, that’s the last thing I need!

Better get back to studying! I have a test later today…..
Peace out!
Megan

PS. I wish I knew why I found this so hilarious. Maybe you’ll find it hilarious too.

I’m posting super late/not on my day because Honey Badger doesn’t give a shit. (Thanks Cathy for the inspiration!)

Besides not having my car for 2+ weeks (And still NOT having it), this week has actually been filled with quite a bit of exciting things! For one, on Friday myself and some other students ate lunch with RAY CHEN after seeing the masterclass he gave at Jewell. The masterclass was pretty baller for one because I was like 15 feet away from a Strad Violin (they cost millions of dollars and produce amazing sounds), yeah Ray Chen uses one of those. Then Sunday was his recital at the Kauffman Center. It was sooo hoss, bros. The bad thing is that watching a performance like that just makes you want to practice a lot, which might actually be a good thing. Anyway, after the performance you can get autographs (I can feel you all judging me at this point). So I stood in line and as he was signing his name my program, he looked up and was like “Oh hey! It’s nice to see you again!” Yeah, he remembered me from when he was at Jewell. NBD. Then I got a picture taken with him (see my new profile picture on FB). Also since it was free concert, I invited my step mom and dad to go since they had been wanting to see the Kauffman Center because they had never been. The whole time we were there my dad was like “Ray Chen could be your future husband!” Totes querd. Then when the performance started and he walked out on stage my stepmom leans over and says to me “If I were younger I would totally go after him.” Also totes querd. I realize he’s a nice looking Chinese Male, but to hear that from your parents in that strange way is totally awkward! Anyway after all that fun-ness…. we went to eat at the Ameristar Casino Buffet. Aweee yeeeah.

Monday night Kendyl and I went to Morgan’s house, made milkshakes, watched 17 Again, and just chilled. Before we knew it, it was almost 3 in the morning, so we all decided it would probably be best if we went home. lol. Tuesday I went to Target. This was also the day One Direction’s album came out! And it was on sale at Target for 8 dollars!! So i bought it. It was a good investment, fo sho.

Wednesday Kendyl and I took a little road trip to CoMo to visit Lei. Pretty much the whole way down, Kendyl was quizzing me on Anatomy, specifically the muscles that move the arm. I made a wrong turn at an exit because I was trying to concentrate on finding the answer to the question she was asking me. Anyway, once we got to the Columbia area, we went to Shakespeare’s for Pizza. Nick came to visit and took some pizza from our plates. Then we went on the Mizzou Campus and Nick showed us around the Rec Center, which was freaking awesome. That took like 20ish minutes, then Nick had to go study (SURPRISE). So we wandered around campus by ourselves. We visited the quad but we were too scared that we’d look like noobs to take pictures on the Columns. So we just sat on some benches around the quad for a bit and enjoyed the nice weather and made fun of the hipsters playing Frisbee on the quad.  Then we went to get Boba at a Bubble Tea shop. I had a coffee slush boba. It was delish. It was Kendyl’s first experience with Boba, and it was interesting to watch her psych herself out about the bobas. LOL! 😀 After that we went back to Lei’s Gparent’s house, ate dinner, watched part of “Holes” then watched J. Edgar with Leo Di Caprio. That movie was interesting to say the least…. almost like Broakback Mountain, so Lei told us anyway… I haven’t seen that movie before.

Then today (technically yesterday) we went to see the Lorax. It was such a cute movie! Totally recommend it! Then after, we went back to downtown Columbia, and Kendyl and Lei made “cool story, bro. tell it again” t-shirts at a really cool “make your own t-shirt” store. I didn’t get one because my money supply isn’t very high at the moment. lol. However I will definitely be going back there to make some tees in the future. They had some previously made t-shirts hanging up on their walls. One in particular that I thought was awesome had a Hogwarts Crest and said “Hogwarts Alumni Class of 1998” tee. I want it so bad.  While we were waiting for their t-shirts to be made, we went to Sparky’s for some tasty homemade ice cream. I got Chi Tea ice cream. It was delish, fo sho. Kendyl got a Red Bull shake. I will have to try that sometime. Then we just kind of wandered around the downtown area for a little bit. We went back to Lei’s Gparent’s, ate dinner then decided that we should probably head back to Pimpdence because it looked like it was about to storm soon and it was getting dark. Driving back, Kendyl said it sounded like rain was hitting the windshield, but it was actually just bugs getting smashed by my mom’s car.

That’s all for this week, bros. Keep it real!
