Year In Review

16 May

As of yesterday, my semester/year has finally ended, and to be honest it’s kind of bittersweet. Coming to Mizzou was never really a plan that I had planned on following through with. Though it’s been an adventure adjusting to this new environment, I feel like I made the right choice, and I hope that I’ll be able finish my education here (fingers crossed for nursing school!). That isn’t to say that I regret my year at Jewell, because I don’t. But I guess if there’s one thing I regret it’s not making the decision to come to Mizzou first, if that makes sense… Haha.

This Spring semester has most definitely, hands down, been the most challenging/stressful semester I have ever gone through. This week especially. I hate finals. It probably could almost classify as a miracle that I’ve even made it out alive. But still, for the most part I’ve enjoyed every class that I was in.

Here are some highlights/lessons learned/favorite memories of my year at Mizzou (in no particular order or importance).

  • Getting my first speeding ticket, also getting my first parking ticket (the latter was yesterday, when I almost missed my last final.)
  • Seeing Imagine Dragons preform… FOR FREE. And seeing Passion Pit and Matt & Kim for a small fee.
  • Being sick for 6 weeks. Not cool man. I’m better now though.
  • Microbiology 2800. I don’t care who you are/what your major is, you need to take this class to know the hilarity/awesomeness that is Dr. Furrer. Besides that, subject matter/teaching wise, it’s probably the best class I have ever taken. Ever.
  • Getting 2.5 snow days.
  • I can procrastinate like no body’s business. Thank you Netflix, FB, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest and Imgur. That being said, apparently my body can’t handle stress that is usually a result of procrastination very well (see point #3).
  • The closest I got to an all-nighter was sleeping only for 2 hours…. On many, many, many nights.
  • Ellis library is freaking awesome. Although scary as well (I’m sure librarian Kendyl could tell you more so than I can)
  • Getting a lot of free things, including shirts and lots of food.
  • Attractive male in my history class.  He was real attractive.
  • I miss music/violin more than I thought I would, probably one downside to coming to MU.
  • I’ve been able to appreciate my family and KC a lot more now that I’m 123 miles/1.5 hours away.
  • The basement of the Student Union has very comfy couches that are GREAT for naps.
  • I probably spent too much in the bookstore on clothing/apparel and books. Gosh I really hate buying books.
  • Never take a “5 minute nap” during a study break. It never ends up being 5 minutes, no matter how hard you try to make it last only 5 minutes.

I can’t believe that I’ve just finished my 2nd year of college. CRAZY!! However I’m getting super excited for summer! Even though I’m going to be so majorly busy, wahhhh!!

Peace out for now!
Megan

PS. Sorry Cathy for kind of copying the premise of your post!!

PPS. I just got a little depressed, guys. I googled Kansas City Explorers to find out their schedule this summer. I found out that they’re moving to Irving TX because there wasn’t enough corporate support in KC to keep there here. 😦

Bout to busta cap.

1 Nov

Honestly, I’m one of those people who stresses out over pretty much anything. And it’s taken a lot out of me this week to try not to busta cap because I’ve been trying to figure out what I’m going to take next semester. I register tomorrow, so today I had a meeting with my advisor.  And despite my general feelings about the whole nursing department, she was actually pretty helpful. But I think that’s probably because she’s pretty new and hasn’t had much time to be corrupted by the rest of the advisors. However, the personal timeline she wrote for me was pretty generalized and gave me room to “make it my own schedule.” So I’ve spent a good 2ish+ hours today, trying to figure out what I’m going to take, and when I’m going to take it, and which professor I’m going to take it with. And to be completely honest, I’m still not completely sure what my schedule is going to look like. Right now I’m at 12 hrs. If I add another class I actually need, it’s going to screw up my fall semester. Yay…

Besides all that goodness, this past weekend was homecoming weekend here at Mizzou. On Thursday there was free breakfast for dinner. The event was held outside in the freezing cold, but it was still delicious. Friday was the Imagine Dragons concert, and besides me being a little bit too short and everyone else being a little bit too tall, it was SO AWESOME. Then the rest of the weekend I did pretty much nothing.

This weekend I’m going home. Which hopefully will allow me to de-stress from school. HA, just kidding. That’s a joke. I have 3 tests in a row next week. Friday, Monday, and Tuesday. So I should probably start studying for all of those. Lovely. My dad’s birthday is on Saturday so we’ll probably go out to eat. And I’ve been dying for some Yogurtini, so I’ll have to hit that up while I’m in the Pimpdence. I’m also super excited to sleep in my queen sized bed with my puff-puff blanket. And I’m also excited to have a break from microwavable and boxed food. Ahh.. thank goodness for my mother.

This was taken like junior year, either by the hot-potato, or Kendyl. LOL.

Fall Break… Kind of.

30 Oct

Well it turns out that Mizzou doesn’t have a Fall break so I just had to create my own by just not going back to school.

Friday night was the free Imagine Dragons concert for homecoming week and it was off the chain. My ears continued to ring for two days so I think that tells you how awesome it was.

I drove home after the concert so I could watch Tristan run in his sectionals race the next morning. He got 19th place so he gets to go to state in Jeff city this weekend!

While I was home I my mom took me shopping and I was finally able to go to Forever 21 (it had been much too long) and we went to Costco so I could get an ice cream bar (if you haven’t had one from the food court there, trust me it will change your life).

I was planning on going back Sunday night, but then I learned that Tristan’s cross country banquet was on Tuesday and there would be fried chicken and mashed potatoes, so I weighed my options and clearly skipping class on Monday was the best choice.

I register for classes tomorrow so I have my classes picked out and I’m planning on taking chemistry, Bio lab, health sciences 1000 and 3300, Political Science, and Greek mythology.

I’m really lacking motivation currently, so this is all I got.

Keep it Classy.

P.S. I found out today that Of Monsters and Men are coming to Kansas City for the Night the Buzz stole Christmas, but I won’t be here, so that’s unfortunate.

Also, the only followers we have on twitter are all of us and Tristan. It’s kind of pitiful.

Ron Swanson.

24 Oct

I officially changed my major yesterday; it is now Health Sciences with Pre-Physical Therapy. I feel a lot better after I went and talked to my new advisor, I figured what credits would count and which credits I still need to get. I am planning on apply for early admission in to the Physical Therapy program next fall, but I’ve got some work to do to get there. 200 people apply and only 30 people get in and the average gpa is 3.8-3.9, so I’m a wee bit nervous. I also have to get at least 40 shadowing hours, which won’t be a problem because my mom has a ton of connections. That also means that my plans for this summer are now taking algebra and physics 2 in summer school, working at the marina, and job shadowing.

This Friday Imagine Dragons is putting on a free concert for Mizzou’s Homecoming so I’m pretty stoked for that and then I’m going home early Saturday morning to watch Tristan run in his sectional race. I already told my mom I would like to have chicken parmesan and an ice cream bar from Costco when I come home.

Keep it Classy.

P.S. Ron Swanson from Parks and Rec is in several episodes of Gilmore Girls as Jackson’s Brother Bo, if you were wondering, yes even back then he had his awesome mustache. Also I just read Nick Offerman’s Wiki page and I have even more respect for that man then I did before.

Lacking All the Motivation

4 Oct

Hey everyone!

This week has been pretty good so far. As you may have read in Kendyl’s post, the Florence concert was beyond awesome. It was definitely a great first concert experience. One Direction is going to have a high standard to beat come July.

On Tuesday I stayed home and just kind of doped around. Unfortunately I woke up at 9 am after going to bed around 2am. Hate it when I can actually sleep in but my brain decides it can’t sleep past 9. My online test was due at 5pm and I submitted it at 4:57. Winning. I’m not sure about the quality of it though…. And since it was mostly short answer/essay test, she probably won’t have it graded for a couple more days.

The good thing about being home was 1) being able to sleep in my full sized bed– twin sized beds really do suck. And 2) I got to eat my mom’s cooking. TWICE. Delish. One bad thing though was that I forgot my phone charger at home. Thankfully I have a USB cord that charges my phone from my laptop and my car charger that should get me by until I go home next.

Kendyl and I left Pimpdence around 8:30ish. On the way back we listened to Flo+The Machine, of course. We were still on a concert high and were reliving the concert through her songs. She’s so amazing.

Also on Tuesday, at home I cleaned out the top drawer of my night stand. I found a Christmas card where I had stashed a sizable amount of my Christmas money. I, legit, felt my jaw drop to the floor. I treated myself to some new Nike shorts and a t-shirt with said money. They were on sale on a tennis warehouse website. Suppes excited about those. And I actually sent them to the right address apparently (….if you follow my tweets). YAY.

Yesterday I wore pink, not knowing it was “International Mean Girls Day.” And also we found out that Imagine Dragons is performing a FREE SHOW during homecoming weekend. We’re super excited for that!

Once again, I have procrastinated my Biology Homework until the last minute. Instead of doing that today, I have uploaded pictures to Facebook, watched some TV shows, watched various video clips on CNN.com, did 3 loads of laundry, hot glued somethings back together that were broken, worked out at the Rec, and now I’m writing this post. Is it Thanksgiving break yet?!

“Lacking ALL the motivation.” – Kendyl Laughlin
Also since we just got back from the rec, all I want to do is shower and sleep. Shoot.

Hope you all are having more motivation than we are.

Shit Happens. Melodramatic Post #2 for the day.

11 Sep

I know I say this a lot, but Shit seriously does happen all the time.

I didn’t blog last week because frankly I had nothing to say and I was watching Weeds on Netflix and trust me it was so much more important. I finished all 6 seasons that are on Netflix in about 3 weeks, I’m kind of into the whole drug cartel kind of thing currently.

As you know I’ve applied to a ton of places and it seems as if I am just not hirable. Wednesday I got a call from the Candy Factory (the #1 place I wanted to work) and scheduled an interview for 3. I dressed really nice and fashionable (that’s the only positive in this story) and I went in for the interview. I thought it went really well and they seemed to like me, but then I got a call on Friday that they had hired someone else for the position. That was depressing let me tell you.

Saturday Megan and I wanted to watch the game, but didn’t have tickets or cable so we decided to go to BDubs. Well BDubs was packed so we went down the road to Fuddruckers instead. It wasn’t busy at all and we practically had the whole place to ourselves. Unfortunately they lost it in the last quarter.

Wednesday me and Guano went to try out for tennis and got turned away because we didn’t have the right shoes (they were a little pretentious). Well the next couple days I went back and forth deciding if I should go ahead and go to the other tryout on Sunday. Finally, Sunday morning I decided I was just going to do it because I knew I would have been mad at myself if I didn’t at least try (I’m kind of competitive that way).  So Sunday morning I go buy legit tennis shoes and then head to the courts. I show up and most people are already on courts and its just me and another guy on the benches so I ask him and we go warm up. He was way better than me to say the least so I just thank God he was nice and not a douche. Then we start playing matches and I was one of four girls there. The skill set of the girls ranged from Saara good to Park Hill South good, not kidding, while was at Chrisman #2 good. I was extremely out of place, but I tried not to let it get to me and just played. Then we played mixed doubles which was fun and my partner was super good so that helped. Then at the end I went up to the club president and asked If I needed to fill out any paperwork to tryout, and his response was “oh, no you don’t need to, but there is a $10 tryout fee.” That was his passive aggressive way of telling me I did not make the team. So, I paid the $10, I do regret paying that asshole. Then he talked to everyone there, and I found out that those were the people who already made the club team they were just competing for traveling spots.

To add on to all of this lately I’ve been struggling about deciding what I want to do with my life. I warned you this post is melodramatic. It’s not that I don’t want to be a nurse, I just feel like my inner less practical YOLO self is trying to get out. I see myself in a job that allows me more creative freedom like a bakery or specialty shop. I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately and I just really don’t know what to do, I just feel stuck. If I do stick with nursing, it will just be so I have something to fall back on and a way to get enough money to start my own business.

I had my first test today in one of my Nursing classes and I think it went well so that’s a positive LOL!

Sorry for loading all of my troubles (Megan I used the correct term here according to our Rural Sociology teacher) on you guys, but at least I blog… well sometimes… unlike Nick.

Keep it Classy.

Kendyl

P.S. If you haven’t listened to it the knew Imagine Dragons album it is lengend….. wait for it… dairy.

This is where I wish I was right now. Seriously.
