15 May

I am free! 🙂

This is a little bittersweet though. It’s been the best semester of college by far, potentially the best of my life ever. It was much needed after the worst semester of college and my life ever last semester. But this one has been awesome. I am a little sad it’s over and that I won’t see a lot of my friends and professors or be on Drury’s campus until January. But then I remember I’m going to LONDON in 3 months so I stop being sad pretty quick.

I actually haven’t been that stressed out this week. I’ve been stressed all semester, in a good way though. It kept me busy and kept me going all the time, but I just feel so satisfied when I check things off my list of things to do, so I’ve been managing my time really well. Considering how much I’ve been working, I’ve had to. So I never got panicked-stressed out.

Friday night we had our final Summit project presentations. Here’s me and my roommates outside our house wearing our Volunteer shirts we got from the shelter.

summit

Today I had my final presentation of my research project. I still can’t believe that dang project that wouldn’t go away is… gone. If anyone’s interested in learning about Media Framing of the Sandy Hook Shooting and wants to read a 17-page paper about it, hit me up. My mom told me she thought it would be really boring but it kept her attention. So there’s a testimonial, if you’re skeptical.

I got my final grades for my two Spanish classes where I have an awesome teacher. 97.75% in Spanish 302 and 97.6% in Senior Seminar! I got a 98% on both of my final papers. The other day I was talking to my professor and she said I’ve really improved a lot and I am probably one of the ones who have improved the most.

Here’s a picture of me and my class at her house after the Iniciación ceremony for the Sigma Delta Pi honor society! Those little kids are another professor’s kids.

enyay

I’m really going to miss my Spanish class!

I don’t know what to do with myself now. Probably eat a lot of food, right? I’ve been having a lot of Chipotle and pizza lately.

Or maybe I should work on cleaning this:

room51513.

… Nah. I’m going to enjoy my freedom for now.

Here’s a list of some of the best things about this semester (no particular order):

  • Going to Atlanta to watch the basketball team win the national championship
  • Getting the outstanding sophomore in the communication department award
  • Eating dinner at my Spanish professor’s house with my class
  • Winning extra credit for our research poster
  • A cat named Georgie at the animal shelter
  • IPHONE
  • Getting prepared to go to London
  • Making new friends with people in my classes
  • Being addicted to the Jodi Arias trial (Guilty- first degree premeditated murder)
  • Going to St. Louis for a weekend with Caitlin
  • Not having any classes I hate
  • Not having calculus which is the ultimate class I hate

I’ll be home on Friday night, see you guys for Dirty Dancing on Saturday night! I’ll make some snakes. Oops I meant to say snacks, but it’s funny that I said snakes instead so I decided not to change it.

And t-minus six days until the Of Monsters and Men concert! That kind of snuck up on us, didn’t it? Hooray!

Cathy

P.S. Let’s come watch Andy Roddick play on the Springfield Lasers tennis team sometime this summer! I don’t really know anything about him but I know you guys do.

P.P.S. I’m still in shock it’s summer now. IT’S SUMMER RIGHT NOW. It feels like it was just last summer, right? I’m so excited for pie-worthy stories and sitting on the big rock at Bass Pro and being scared of creepy people and raccoons. Can we go camping on your property again, Kendyl? I wonder if Nick will be allowed this year.

P.P.P.S. How is it that we graduated from Chrisman 2 years ago? How is it that we just finished our SOPHOMORE YEAR OF COLLEGE?

Batteries Not Included

13 Feb

Sunday night (aka the early hours of Monday)

12:35 am – get into bed and turn out the lights

12:36 am – set alarms

12:37 am – close eyes and try to fall asleep

12:42 am – hear a loud beep in the hallway… and another 30 seconds later… and another…

12:43 am – realize it’s the smoke detector

12:44-12:45 am – hope it will stop on its own

12:46 am – go out into hallway to talk to Caitlin about what to do

12:47 am – decide to call the CA (like an RA but for apartment housing)

12:48 am – security picks up the phone and says they will be right over

12:49 am – change into more appropriate clothing in which to greet security

12:52 am – security arrives

security: the battery needs replaced

me: we know that

security: do you have a 9-volt battery?

me: uh, no?

security: well, we can’t do anything for you

me: so we’re just supposed to let this beep all night?

security: well, unless you have a 9-volt battery…

me: well I already said that we don’t

security: well, you could go to wal-mart, they’re still open…

me (kind of pissed): alright bye

12:55 am – security leaves

12:56 am – me and Caitlin stare at each other

1:05 am – me and Caitlin drive to the nearest gas station to buy said battery

1:18 am – we return home

1:28 am – I finally figure out how to replace the stupid battery

1:30 am – I finally go to bed, peacefully and sans beeping noise

This just made me really pissy because that was not the first time that one of our smoke detectors had done that this year, and the other two times we were not required to provide the battery. @DUprobz.

Cathy.

P.S. Yesterday I overslept by 3 hours. Oops. I had class at 9:30, 11:00, and 12:00, and I woke up at 11:09. Shit. I left my apartment at 11:22, with makeup on and decent clothes and looking overall  presentable, which I’m pretty proud of.

P.P.S. OF MONSTERS AND MEN!!!

Florence + The Machine

8 Oct

Whats Up Party People?

Last monday night I attended the Florence + The Machine Concert at Starlight theater with Kendyl and Megan. The night started with Kendyl forgetting the tickets and having to drive back home to get them. Then after arriving at Starlight and walking half way to the theater Megan realized she forgot to lock her car so me and Kendyl had to wait as she went back to lock it. After Megan locked her car we finally got to the ticket gate where after getting my ticket scanned I turned around to see the event staff telling Kendyl she could not take her camera in, so I waited again as Kendyl and Megan went back to the car again. A little bit later after finally getting in and taking our seats I smiled at an events staff lady and charmed her into giving us free wristbands so we could stand right in front of the stage for the concert which was amazing. We were standing right in front of the stage by a wall of speakers throughout the entire concert, I could feel my internal organs vibrating to the music. Me and Florence had a moment when we locked eyes and she looked right into my soul, although I think she is into witchcraft I could go along with it if we were to ever get married. The concert was pretty zesty and I got to do a bit of fist pumping and screaming. I want to see Florence + The Machine live again but hopefully next time it will be at Red Rocks.

I have not done much of interest lately, I leave for Colorado in 26 days and I spend a decent amount of my time every day staring at my snowboard and giving him the attention and affection he deserves. I started running again last week for the first time since I tore my ACL in May and I can say that I have never enjoyed running more.

I have been rock climbing a lot lately, not at IBEX but out in nature where it is free. Friday I was about 10 feet up a 20 foot rock face at the lakes when I reached for a crack in the cliff and ended up pulling a frying pan sized rock down on my head causing me to fall to the ground. I ended up with a bleeding forehead, bloody scalp, a huge headache, and a deep cut to the bone on my left thumb. From now on I think I am going to pay to climb at IBEX where its safer and they have ropes that catch you when you fall.

This is Me in 26 days!

I rapped and danced. say wut?

26 Apr

On Friday I attended my RA’s graduation party. There were puppies, ducks, bunnies, and kittens that people could play with (except I couldn’t play with the kittens. But they were so cute!) We also made forts out of cardboard boxes. And I ate a lot of sour gummy worms and peanut butter m&ms.

On Saturday I volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House with my sorority. We made breakfast for the people staying there, which was torture because I hadn’t eaten all morning and we weren’t allowed to eat anything we made. I went home later that night because I had to work the next day.

On Sunday I worked. It was really not that busy because it was kind of chilly. The manager left pretty early and it was a bunch of high school kids running the place, plus me and Derek. So not much got done after that and we all basically just sat around waiting until we could go home. It was kind of awkward because all the high schoolers talked about all their high school things and it made me a bit glad that I am no longer in that hell-hole. After work, I went straight back to school because we had rehearsals for our dorm’s padaegent Miss Ely. The 5 halls nominate a contestant and there’s like a talent, q&a, and evening wear portions, and the whole hall could be involved. So I rapped, and danced. It was a grand ole time! And our hall won!! It was awesome.

Here’s the video  of the talent portion I danced in. Our shirts spell out “milkshake.”

After Miss Ely, I pulled an all nighter for anatomy, which wasn’t worth it since I did HORRIBLY on the quiz. I just hate that class. But I think I’ve already mentioned that. After the quiz, I skipped my psych class to sleep. #winning

Yesterday, after walking back from my class, I saw these weird looking tropical trucks driving onto the quad area. Little did I know that there was going to be FREE SNO CONES ON THE QUAD FOR EVERYONE!! One of the reasons I like going to Jewell, you get lots of free stuff. However I only got one sno cone because by the time I went back to get a second one around mid-afternoon, they had apparently run out of ice. WTF. The sno cone truck runs out of ice. You would think they would have a rather large supply supply of it right?! WRONG. OH THE IRONY. Makes me angry. But whateves.

Today was STEAK NIGHT at dinner!! Here’s  a glorious picture of that meal. I always get stuck with the dinky steaks though. But it was gooooooood dinky steak, for sure. Also I went to Mosaic (a little campus worship service) for the first time tonight. It was nice.

Tomorrow is my sorority’s formal. I kind of want to go but I kind of don’t want to. Since all underclass men have to wear black/white/gray/no colors (the seniors are the only ones who wear color) I’m re-wearing a dress from homecoming or courtwarming a couple years ago… I don’t remember which dance it’s from. I just didn’t want to stress about having to look for a dress.

Then Saturday is my last Symphony Concert of the year. This music has been nothing but stressful (as if I needed more stress on top of anatomy). I’m not sure if anyone is really ready for the concert actually. I’ll let you know how that goes.

P.S.  TWO WEEKS UNTIL SUMMER. THANK GOODNESS.

Posting 10 mins before deadline #winning

1 Mar

This week has been pretty busy for me (one of the reasons i’m typing this blog entry at 11:21, I know I’m cutting it close. Don’t burn me at the stake please.)

Monday- Had an anatomy quiz. Pretty much we have to treat the quizzes like tests. They’re pretty hard if not as hard as the tests. Worst feeling in the world is when you feel confident with your answers and get your test/quiz back and realize you were wrong. Sucks to suck bro.

Tuesday- Had an interview with Jackson County Parks and Rec in the morning. I got really paranoid when I arrived to the marina because I wasn’t sure if I was at the right place. The interview itself was kind of interesting. The interviewer told me he didn’t really know how to interview people. And the questions he did prepare to ask me, I apparently was flying through. Which I didn’t know if it was a good or bad thing. But anyway I got the job (yay!). Then I went back to Pimpdence because my 12:25 class (also my only class) for the day was canceled. So I went to Poppy’s for a doughnut, lounged around my house for a bit, visited my GMa and Uncle, and visited my dad and step-mom after that and ate lunch with them. Once I got back to Jewell I had symphony rehearsals. And also this is the day I became car-less. My cousin’s car is getting fixed and needed to borrow someone’s car to get to work for the week… That car happened to be mine. Sucks to suck. I’ll get it back this weekend hopefully. Also our “Mom-Dot” week started Tuesday! Got a lot of stuff and t-shirts and stuffed lions (my sorority’s mascot)! They’re so cute! Also, this is the night it stormed like crazy. And pretty much all of the wifi on campus went out until the next afternoon. That was torturer.

Wednesday- Had my violin lesson. Pretty sure my instructor kind of knew I didn’t practice much. I probably practiced a whole 2-3 hours in 2 weeks. I’m supposed to practice 20 mins daily for a total of 2 hours and 20 mins per week. Or 4 hours and 40 mins in two weeks. Whoops. Then for my sorority we had part 1 of 3 initiation ceremony. Then after that I had my symphony concert. I was also paranoid this day because I couldn’t remember if the concert was at 7:30 or 6:30. I asked one person then had to confirm with like 2 other people that it was 7:30. Jist of the story is that I freak out a lot. That went… interestingly to say the least. During one movement of a piece (<– that was music lingo LOL) I’m pretty sure I didnt play a single note. I was lost from the get-go. We’ve had only rehearsed all the music TWICE before the concert. So yeah… interesting. Also we played one song with the Chapel Choir, which Zac Smith sings in. But that piece was actually decent because the singers drowned out our out of tune notes. HAHA.

Today- I actually made it to that one classed I over slept last time on time. And I ate at the Cage (like a fast food shop in the union) twice today. Not good on my stomach to say the least. PAH! probs tmi. Sorry bros. Today I also had part 2 of 3 initiation ceremony for my sorority. And today was the last day for Mom Dot stuff.

Tomorrow is our last initiation cereomy where we’ll  no longer be classified as “new members”. And we’ll be “Deltas” instead! I’m actually kind of excited for that! Also tomorrow is Friday, which I am totally looking forward to because that means SPRING BREAK will be one week away!! I am in dire need of a break.

Also, this week, I’ve gained a new obsession. Its name: One Direction. The next hottest boy band ever. They’re British!!!! And really good looking. However most of them are a bit younger than me but there is one that’s a couple months older than me. He’s definitely my fav. Me and Lei pretty much listen to their 3 singles that have been released in the States on repeat. They’re better than Justice Beaver (someone made cupcakes for his bday today. there were left overs in the dorm kitchen. they even had Justin Beiber napkins. SMH).

Okay that’s all from me for now.
Peace out!

Megan.

Gas Problems

25 Jan

Hello world! (That’s a computer science joke, Google it if you’re confused.) Hard to believe it’s Wednesday already because I’ve been a day off this whole week so by now I think it should be Thursday.

The end of the last school week wasn’t too eventful; Friday after my 11:00 class ended, I headed home, though I would have liked to have left at 12, I decided to be responsible and wash my dishes and fold my clothes. These were tasks that I had been avoiding for at least 2 days though so I guess it wasn’t so much me taking initiative as it was me doing what was absolutely necessary at the time. So after all was said and done, I ended up leaving around 1.

Why was I going home you ask? I shall answer. BECAUSE OF THE JACK’S MANNEQUIN CONCERT!!!! I got two tickets for my birthday from my parents. I drove home, and passed my 2nd Amish person that I have seen on my journeys home and back to school. You would think that I would see more. There are a ton of “Share the Road” signs, and I’ve gone home like 6 or 7 times total so the chances are pretty high. I was listening to my Jack’s Mannequin CD that I burned myself, but it doesn’t have a case so it got pretty scratched and soon I had to put in the real life CD of theirs that just came out in October. I got home around 4, got ready, and left around 5:15 to go to Kelsey’s. We went to Fazoli’s and then to Kansas City for the concert.

It was at the Beaumont Club in Westport. We brought in our coats but it was hot in the place, and pretty small. We got big red X’s on our hands and paid a $2 fee for being minors. I still have the X’s on my hands. I didn’t want to hold my coat so I found a railing against a wall with a sign over and and wrapped my coat around the railing and covered it with the sign again. Good decision all around. The concert was supposed to start at 7:30 but of course there were opening acts. The first one was some hipster named Allen Stone who bears a striking resemblance to Rees Purdom and also seemed to share the same affinity for unique outfits. He was on for like 30 minutes and by this point I was booing him. Then another band called Jukebox the Ghost (which Kelsey kept calling Jukebox the Swamp) came on and they were all right but I was like come on I just want to see Jack’s Mannequin.

Around 9:30, they finally came on. Andrew McMahon. ❤ They opened up with my favorite song, The Mixed Tape. Here’s a video that was uploaded by someone incompetent who only managed to get it starting halfway through. Not much to choose from on YouTube when it’s only been 5 days since the concert.

At one point someone threw their beer up in the air and we all got wet and I thought it was a special effect. Nope. Anyway, that was my first concert and it was super fun. I love how you can hear the crowd singing in that video. Usually it’s just me singing alone in the car on 3 hour commutes. I have to go see them again. One of my top 10 favorite things that I’ve ever done.

The only other noteworthy occurrence of the past week was when I was filling up my car before heading back to school on Sunday. I had pushed down the little handle on the gas pump so I wouldn’t have to hold it, and a while later gas is coming out of the gas tank and I took out the handle and that thing was still shooting gas out all over the place like a hose. So we probably lost like a gallon of gas and it went to the pavement. Some homie at the car in front of me started talking to me and said I should go tell the people inside. Well duh. So I went in and it was Jake Douthat working, which was awkward because remember the time when we went on a date and he threw up? Well I went back to my car and the homie said “nice to meet you” as if we had a real conversation and I called my dad to make sure my car wasn’t going to blow up. He said no.

And on the way back to school I saw my THIRD Amish person.
