Running on fumes

3 Feb

I’ve been back in Colorado for almost 5 weeks, and it feels like I never left. When all six of us roommates got back together that first Sunday night before school started and sat downstairs, we laughed for hours, and it felt like winter break was just one long weekend. Leaving home kind of sucked. I only got to see you guys once! I wish we were still able to go on night-time adventures together… but Kansas is kind of in my way…

The past few weeks of school have been killer. I am taking 17 hours too, Megan! It is a lot of work. I’m taking two lab classes (BIO and Oceanography), Teaching with Writing, History of Colorado (which blows because everything really important in American history happened or started in Independence or MO in general.. my MO pride really comes out a lil too much in this class), Geometry, and an online technology course worth one credit which requires the course work of a 3-credit class. Mondays and Wednesdays, my classes don’t start until noon and I’m done by 3:30 so that’s nice. Tuesday and Thursday I have class 8-12pm and on Tuesdays I have Bio lab from 1-3.. so that really sucks. Also on those days I volunteer at the Boys & Girl’s club until 7 and on Thursday I go straight back to campus for Navigators until 9. So my days are pretty packed. Fridays are like heaven. I have one class 2:30-3:20 and volunteering at club from 4 until dinner or close, depending on my plans. Oh don’t let me forget Women’s ministry at church on Monday nights, Bible Study on Tuesday nights, and babysitting on Wednesday nights. Saturdays are my only days off. I’m pretty optimistic about this semester so far; here’s to hoping that optimism stays for 13 more weeks.

Over break, which now seems like forever ago, I got exciting news! I was offered the job of On Location Camp Counselor at Eagle Lake camp in Colorado Springs!!! I am so so so very excited to spend my summer serving at a camp again, and even more excited that it’s in Colorado (and the surrounding area). My specific job will consist of traveling around Colorado or the northern Midwest area and doing camp at different churches each week. This is the stuff I want to be doing for the rest of my life, so being able to start that now is beyond a blessing. My whole summer is already planned out, and what a relief. I can’t imagine trying to deal with the stress of making summer plans while taking 17 credits. Good luck to you guys with finding internships and jobs!

Outdoor soccer starts the 18th of February and I cannot wait! I went to the gym Friday to play volleyball with my roommate and we ended up playing for almost 2 hours. Oh my gosh I am so sore. Muscles that I never thought I had are hurting me. I don’t like it. VB is hard and hurts your arms so much. My palms are bruised, and I don’t know how that happened. Bleh. I’m so ready to get back out on the soccer field.

Happy birthday week to you Kendyl!! All of the world will be celebrating with you!

Colorado Update

13 Oct

I live in a house divided. It is 5 vs. 1 every time the Broncos play football. I am that one. The one who could care less about the Broncos, Peyton Manning, and the NFL in general. However, those five do not like that I am that one. Really there is one of the five who is too die-hard and I can’t stand to be around on a Broncos game day. YOU CAN NEVER CHANGE ME INTO A BRONCOS FAN. So, today, as on any other game day, I sit quietly on the couch zoned out as those five cheer and yell and sneer at me as I stupidly comment on the great catch (which so happened to be an interception) for the enemy. However, a little bit of hometown pride swells up in me as I hear the KC Chiefs are 6-0 and have the loudest fans, loud enough to break a world record! How cool. When does college basketball start? answer: not soon enough

Well, I haven’t been very faithful to this blog; for that I apologize. I have become exponentially worse at getting things done. For example, I did laundry last Tuesday. My sheets sat in the dryer for 6 days. 6 days! I would forget them and then remember them but not care and then it was 6 days later. That’s bad.

I have added a fun thing to my schedule. I am now a volunteer at the Boys and Girls’ Club! I love it. I go every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and stick around for about 2 hours. I have helped with homework and a few programs that they participate in. Tuesday was my first day and I stuck with the 1st-4th grade boys. We did a health and fitness program and I was supposed to help them with a worksheet. Holy moly. Those boys were so wound tight! Thursday was a little quieter. The boys were in an “acting” program– which means that the instructor makes up a bunch of stuff and the boys do it and love it. We played zombie tag for an hour. They had so much fun pretending and sneaking around and running it was adorable how many smiles I saw. (One boy was so smiley and in a good mood that he would run up to me and give me a giant hug any time he had the chance… heart melting). Friday was crazy again, they don’t have homework help so the kids get to play in an awesome games room for forever. But then I was stuck with the 1st-4th grade girls for an hour program. We played a game a little like “I’ve Never” but the girls got to move around the room. It was weird. But I learned so much about their home lives. It was heartbreaking. I had a chat with a staff after that program was over and he explained to me the living situation of one of the girls. So heartbreaking.

I love it. Being present and available and loving is such a small thing I can do for these kids and they need it- they crave it. I could do something like this for the rest of my life. I think that’s why I love camp so much. Though I don’t get to spend much time with the campers, I can make every minute they are with me full of love, acceptance, and Jesus; things they might not get at home at all.
Things are non-stop on this end. I can’t wait to take a break this next weekend at Journey, the Regional conference for schools that have Navigator ministries. Going to make the long and out of the way trek up to Estes Park. Can’t wait to be up in the mountains! Finally!

Miss you all

Love, Morgan

p.s. Sorry I suck at writing letters or communicating in other means rather than snapchat. Maybe I’ll make up for it and send you all Christmas cards….

p.p.s. speaking of Christmas….. only 73 days!! Holla!

That Colorado Life

23 Sep

So, as you may know, Colorado has been hit hard for the last week by the floods! I can’t believe it! It’s so crazy how much rain came down last week and how much damage it caused. One of the best roads (highway 34) was completely demolished going up to Estes Park (one of the best places in this state). This means no roommate camping trip this fall 😦 Luckily, I guess, my school wasn’t damaged by the floods. We did have a flood day! School was cancelled because so many people couldn’t leave their houses to get to Greeley. How crazy is that?!

In other news, I am almost finished decorating my room! Ugh- it’s been 4 weeks and my picture frames are still on my floor. It is so hard to decorate a room knowing you will be living in it for 2 years. I might be discovering that I have commitment issues just a wee bit.

In school news, I hate Physics. I can’t understand my asian professor. She is so excited about Physics that her words get all jumbled when they come out of her mouth. When she was trying to explain The Law of Universal Gravitation and how to simplify the problem her exact words were “The sixes cancel out the other six and all the sixes are gone. No other numbers are left. So this equals approximately 10. You with me?” Uh no. No. What? NO. BUT I have a tutor! Well, he’s an unofficial tutor/friend of a friend. Fun story, I texted him on a Tuesday night to see if we could study on Thursday. After successfully communicating that the library would be our meeting place, the time we would , and topics we would need to cover I received this message, “Sounds great! See you then :$” I was a bit confused by the smiley face, but got over it knowing  the dolla sign and bracket are right next to each other. But then, I received another message, “Oh sorry, I’m hammered right now :)*” Um, it’s Tuesday night sir, why are you hammered on a Tuesday?! Also, why are you telling me this? I don’t want to know that much about your life right now. I have no clue what kind of “relationship” we are supposed to have. Is this a teacher-student type thing, or are we going to be friends, or are we pretending to not know each other after this semester of tutoring? I have no clue. But I don’t think he does either. It’s a weird thing that I don’t understand just yet. Also he get’s hammered on Tuesdays, not the best choice in tutors Morg…

Also, I apologize for this irrelevant post. I am not loving writing right now so even writing this blog feels like schEWl.

Miss you guys, also I’m a little bitter that you are in/going to London for Thanksgiving. I am so poor I am barely making it back to KC for the holiday. blah.

Ciao

P.S. I still haven’t switched to iOs7 I just can’t change it yet….

P.S.S. I ride my bike to school sometimes, the last time I did I was complemented on how cute my basket is. I felt so cool.

Knee Surgery

31 May

Two and a half months after tearing my medial meniscus snowboarding in Colorado I finally had surgery to repair it.

Chills

5 May

I have now been home from my winter job working in Colorado for almost a month after coming home early. Five months of snowboarding every day and pushing my limits finally caught up with me about a month ago when I tore my medial meniscus in my right knee while snowboarding ending my season. I was snowboarding way up on the mountain when I felt my knee pop and instantly knew that I had torn something and my season was done, but I didn’t want to end 100+ days of snowboarding with a ride down the mountain on a ski patrol snowmobile. So I snowboarded the 2 miles down the mountain with all my weight on my good leg unable turn in any direction. A few days later I said my goodbyes packed up my stuff and headed home ending what had been a insanely fun winter.

A few weeks after I came home on Saturday April 20 I heard about a massive backcountry avalanche 600 feet wide and 8 feet deep that killed 5 people at Loveland Pass 20 minutes from where I lived in Colorado. Hearing about it gave me the chills, because for the last month I was in Colorado Loveland Pass had been my favorite place to snowboard and I would typically ride there every Friday and Saturday to get away from the big weekend crowds at the resorts. I always knew I was taking a risk when snowboarding there, and I would only go with at the least a group of 3 people who along with me all had an avalanche beacon, shovel, and probe. Having the proper rescue gear always made me feel more than safe enough to take the risk of snowboarding backcountry. But all 5 people who died also had the proper safety gear, the avalanche was just so massive that it left nobody to dig them out. Hearing about the avalanche made me glad I was home, because had I not torn my meniscus and came home from Colorado a month early I probably would have been at the pass snowboarding that entire day one last time before coming home on the 21 and at some point I would have snowboarded that same zone the avalanche occurred in and who knows.

http://xgames.espn.go.com/article/9196383/colorado-authorities-identify-5-riders-killed-loveland-pass-avalanche

I had a MRI on my knee a few weeks ago after which my doctor informed me my medial meniscus is torn and I need to have surgery to repair it on May 31. This will be my second knee surgery in the last 10 months and third surgery in the last year and a half all results of dirt jumping, mountain biking and snowboarding accidents. Since talking with my doctor I have decided to quit mountain biking for a while and to quit dirt jumping forever. I have been thinking a lot about my personal health and the fact that I want to be able to walk and care for myself when I get old, so I have also considered quitting snowboarding. But snowboarding is my favorite sport so I can’t get myself to give it up, I can however give up on my hopes of one day competitively snowboarding. Over the last few winters while trying to reach the competitive level I constantly pushed my limits to far causing several close calls with serious injuries, 5 dislocated shoulders and several bad tumbles along with one avalanche that I was lucky to ride away from all leading to me ultimately re injuring my knee. So from now on I am done taking risk with my physical health.

Also last week I got a gym membership at Planet Fitness

Sorry I haven’t posted much these last few months, I just got my computer back after sending it in for repairs three separate times.

Snow Day!

9 Apr

Sorry, I’m a day late and probably a dollar short.. But I had to share with you some exciting news!
I have a snow day today!! Dance Party!! Just kidding, that would be weird since it’s just me and I don’t like to dance anyhow…. But really.
Oh man, the only thing that would make this day better would be to go back in time and get the email that it’s a snow day BEFORE I had my 9:30 class this morning… blah. So I am already awake and stuff, but now I get to experience the whole day as a snow day so that’s alright.

Also, I’ve been watching a lot of video blogs online, and they look super fun. All the ones I have seen are of kids my age from England talking about their lives, so they are extra fun because of their accents. I think it would be fun to do one sometime… only problem(s): I don’t like the sound of my voice when it gets recorded, I would have to clean my room, and my jokes would have to be funny in real life. BUT I could practice my impressions! I think I do a good one of Emo-flirty-girl. It’s quite funny

That’s all I suppose…..
Well, actually, I’ve been looking for senior gifts, for the seniors I have come to know this year at college. And man, it’s like Senior year all over again but a little worse this time. These people aren’t people whose parents will still live 5 minutes from me so we are bound to run into each other, these friends are moving towns like for real and becoming teachers and nutritionists and one is moving to North Carolina (which is my dream state to live in). So there is no chance I will see some of them again. So sad. So, buying them things to remember our short lived friendship is hard.

…. bit it’s a SNOW DAY so I can be happy for today…!!
Love,

Morgan
p.s. I hope all you Missourians are enjoying the sun and 70’s today

p.p.s. this is my third snow day of college, and my school, before 2011, had not had a snow day in 25 years! I feel so lucky. Only it’s April and I want showers and not blizzards,…..

Spring Time Happenings

14 Mar

I really can’t believe that another week is pretty much over. It’s crazy to think that I’ll soon be starting my third year of college in August. It makes me feel so old. Only 40-some-odd days left this school year!

Anyway, this week I pretty much forgot that I had to register for classes. So for like 2 days I was freaking out because I didn’t know what exactly I was supposed to be taking. Next semester I’ll have the good ole 8ams for 4 out of the 5 days. Not looking forward to that since this semester I had a lot of late classes.

Since I basically stockpiled credits this semester, I kind of ran out of things to take. I only had 3 classes I was required to take, leaving me with only 11 credits and being completely under full time. So I spent a good 2 hours or so trying to find and elective that I would be interested in. Harry Potter class was completely full, that was depressing. I thought about taking an Asian studies class, but thought… mehhh, better not. And I even thought about taking another English class, but I was like, mehhhh, not feeling like reading and writing papers. So I ended up looking at music for non-majors (go figure, right?). I actually thought about taking studio lessons for violin again but I was just thinking about how much I hate practicing, plus you have juries, blah. Not going to lie though, I kind of miss all of that, and playing in symphony with Bryan Busby.

Spring break is next week! I can’t wait!! It’s mainly because the Les Mis extended soundtrack and DVD are being released, but also because COLORADO and I get to go home. And also I’ll get to sleep in. But I will probably be studying a lot. Professors think they’re so clever putting tests the week AFTER spring break. Little do they know all other professors are doing the same.

Also, yesterday I went to an AA meeting for my nursing class. That was an interesting experience and was actually kind of eye opening. I did have to introduce myself, that was a little bit querd. But thankfully there were other students there from my class so it ended up being okay. Haha.

I hope you all had some time to get out and enjoy the nice weather today! Except if you live in Findland, or other cold areas… 😦 lol!

-Megan

PS. A video for your enjoyment. I don’t know if you guys every used Boomwackers in elementary school music class… but this is pretty much an orchestra of Boomwackers!!

Better Late Than Never…

1 Mar

Hey guys.
Sorry for the delay. My life has been pretty swamped this week. Two test this week and of course I put off studying until the last minute for one test, so that meant I had to put off studying for the other test. And also I lost a lot of sleep because of it. I could probably blame these issues on the snow days throwing me off sync a little bit, but if we’re being honest, I just felt like procrastinating. And also Passion Pit/Matt & Kim concert didn’t help either. Definitely worth seeing them though!

On the topic of putting things off until last minute, I was so engrossed in studying this week that I forgot I had a paper due today at 6 until about 2:30 after I got back from class. Definitely hauled ass on that one. I spent about an hour just trying to format the paper into APA format. At Jewell we mainly used MLA. And I only ever recall using APA once in high school for anatomy. And let’s be honest, that class was pretty much a joke. I felt invincible turning it in 5:57. Living on the edge.

I’ve looked at my schedule and I pretty much have a test every week until the end of the semester (minus spring break and I think 2 random weeks w/out tests). Guess I better get used to it if I’m wanting to get into nursing school. My next test is on Tuesday. Microbiology. Gonna be a fun one to study for…

Sunday were the Oscars. And I always get pretty hyped up about those, but I was particularly hyped more so this year since my main obsession these days is Les Mis. I might or might have not teared up a bit when the whole cast sang One Day More. I was just so happy and excited! Judge me, don’t careeeeeee! It was so good! Also, I wish J-Law was my bfffffffl. Like really, she’s HILARIOUS. Who wouldn’t like to be her best friend?! Over all, I thought it was a pretty good show, if you don’t count those few awkward/bad jokes Seth Macfarlane made. PS. Sorry if I blew up your TF during the Oscars… Tweeting is sometimes my outlet for emotions. LOL.

Also this week, I was peer pressured by Kendyl into going to Colorado over spring break. But I’m not going to lie, I’m getting pretty excited about it. Although I’m not for sure how far out of my box I will go when it comes to getting on the slopes…. I’ll let you know! Haha!

Spring Break countdown: 21 days!! And I’m sure a lot of your guys’ countdown is less than that! You lucky ducks.

Peace Out!
-Megan

70 Days and counting

20 Jan

A few weeks ago I went to Red Rocks Amphitheater and looked around. It is easily the coolest concert venue I have ever been to and I plan on attending a concert there sometime this year. Then me and some guys I work with rode longboards around Denver for a few hours and hit up a few skate parks we also went to my favorite store on earth REI.Red Rocks

Red RocksThis last week Ski Patrol opened some black diamond terrain only accessible by a 150 yard hike uphill in knee and waist deep snow. I jumped at the opportunity to ride somewhere that only a few dozen people have skied this winter and tried out my new camera. The hike was a killer and parts were so steep I had to jam my board into the snow for traction. I was sweating a lot by the time I finally reached the top but it was worth getting to ride the deepest snow on the mountain.

Thats Me^

This next week I am going to start learning to ride superpipe and after that my knee should be strong enough to hit some big jump lines.

Mondays

10 Dec

This monday has been an okay one so far. I woke up at noon and got ready by 4pm. I found This Old House on my tv with cable! (which is like my favorite show ever besides Ask This Old House). And tonight starts the midnight snacks at the dining hall- I think tonight is chili cheese covered things.

I spent the weekend at the Broyer’s house in Castle Rock just to get away from campus before Finals aka week of dread. And It snowed like crazy on Saturday night. It was gorgeous. In Greeley it’s been so dry. It snowed for 3 days in a row in October which was super, but not a flake since so I’m a little disappointed. Also, Tori’s neighbors collaborated to make the best Christmas lights display that is synched to a radio station. It is literally the craziest thing I’ve ever seen, even more out-there than Kendyl’s neighbor and that one house on Liberty street with the house-sized sleigh in the front yard. (if you haven’t seen it yet, shame shame)

No one in Greeley is that crazy about Christmas lights, so I’m excited to go down to the plaza and see the lights! But- I must make it through finals week first. Bleh- There are too many pins on pinterest that describe my feelings about finals that I spend hours in the library laughing at pictures more than I do studying. I hate the library and have only been 5 times this semester, 4 of them being last week and this week “studying” for finals. Last week was horrible. I had 2 finals on Thursday that I was not prepared for. My Geography final required me to take 4 online quizzes over 8 chapters in the book which were due at 7am on Thursday and I started them at 11pm Wednesday. And our library closes at midnight (which is the stupidest thing ever, for real) so 4 of my friends and I went searching for a place that stayed open past midnight. The only place we could find was McDonalds. I was so looking forward to going to IHOP and smelling syrup but it was closed, boo. Mickey-D’s was not only the last resort for studying, but was THE place to be to fix the drunchies (drunk-munchies) after hitting up Whiskey River. We met a lot of great people. One freshman boy had lots of interest in our table of studying and was real chatty for a long time. He talked to us for about 10 minutes and right before he left he told me that I was the prettiest person at the table and wanted to know what my thoughts were on dating. That ended well. And the story has more detail but it’s better to tell in person. But my things did get done and I know I got an A on one final and a solid B on the other!

Good luck on your finals week, I hope freshmen don’t distract you too much and more studying gets done than snacking (:

See you soon!!

Morgan

p.s. Derek please be safe with all the new passes opening, also you should make a snowman and post a picture of it and you standing next to it so we know you have all of your limbs over break..

p.p.s Happy Birthday Week Cathy!!!! ❤

Dislocated Shoulder

9 Dec

Last Tuesday I dislocated my left shoulder. I was snowboarding pretty fast (around 40 mph) down a not very busy part of the mountain when I jumped off a roller only to see a guy sitting on the other side. I didn’t see him until I was already in the air so when I landed all I could do to avoid him was make a very hard cut to my left. But the cut was too much for my knee which gave out causing my toe side edge to dig into the snow slamming me forward onto my head and shoulder which I felt and heard pop out of place on impact. Luckily I was able to pop it back in place with only one try, and I didn’t have to snowboard down the mountain with my shoulder out of its socket swinging around freely. Its been pretty sore very since I dislocated it and it makes a popping noise any time I lift anything or move my arm fast which sucks because my job is a lot of lifting things/people and having quick hands. I’m a little worried I might have torn something in my shoulder just because of the constant pain I have had the last week and the fact that I cant even hold my arm straight out without it shaking real bad and giving out.

It’s been snowing off and on but mainly on for about 4 straight days now and it’s not supposed to stop for another 2 days. A lot of snow means new terrain will open on the mountain very soon, which is great because I am getting bored with riding overcrowded green and blue runs. I’m ready for all the steeper  more challenging black diamond runs to open up along with tree skiing. All this snow also means powder to ride which I enjoy doing for than pretty much anything on earth. I don’t think there is anything more fun than floating through a few feet of fresh snow making fast sharp turns while bombing down the mountain as fast as possible.

About a week ago the Super Pipe here became the first in the world to open this winter. Being the only one in the world open it naturally attracted pretty much every professional skier and snowboarder on earth. In my last two weeks of work I have seen, met, or talked to more Olympic skiers/snowboarders then I can name, including two of my favorite snowboarders Shaun White and Louie Vito. I have wanted to learn to ride pipe since I first started snowboarding 5 years ago. But since my knee is still healing from ACL surgery I am going to wait another month until it’s at full strength, then I will finally ride a super pipe.

It’s hard for me to blog about my time here because for the most part I do the same things every day and every night. I either work all day and snowboard some, or I don’t work at all and I get to snowboard all day and every night I bro down throw down with my fellow employees (party, chill, have as much fun as humanly possible). I have snowboarded everyday for the last 31 days and although fun and super awesome I feel like it’s a little boring to blog about after a month and a half.

What If Money Didn’t Matter?

25 Nov

Unless I win the lottery, I don’t plan on ever being super rich. But that’s fine with me I will never be the person who sits in an office cubicle all day doing paper work while counting down the hours until closing time, even if that person makes a 100 grand a year. I believe in putting a job that you like over a job you hate that pay’s well. I don’t make very much money as a lift operator but I love it. I snowboard to and from work, my office is the Rocky Mountains, my fellow employees are awesome and so are the customers that come here, and all day every day all I see is smiling faces not the frown of the cubicle worker who hates their job.

In my opinion to many people work away their youth not traveling, not having hobbies or doing what they love, because they tell themselves they will do it in the future. But then when the future comes something comes up like starting a family and they no longer have the freedom or money to do what they want. My point I am getting at is that every person when fresh out of high school, while they still have no responsibilities, and no debt should decide what to do next with their lives based on what they love to do  and not money.

I wish I had decided to travel and work seasonal jobs right out of high school when I had no bills to pay. But instead I went to college making my decision to come here harder because I now have to pay for that year of college with my very small salary. I intend to finish college but I should have waited to start it until after I am done traveling around working seasonal jobs and doing what I love. When I do go back to college my major will be something I like not just something that pays well. To me money doesn’t matter I will always figure out a way to travel and do what I want without making a 100 grand a year.

So I ask the question, If money didn’t matter what would you do with your life?

The negatives of sports

18 Nov

The lift operations department here at the resort has a few shifts that start at 5am, Last week I worked one of these shifts meaning I had to report to the Lift Ops locker room by 5am dressed and ready to work. I woke up at 4:30 probably setting the record for the earliest I have ever woken up for anything. After reporting on time to the locker room me and the 6 other people working the 5am shift walked out to the base of the mountain where we buckled into are snowboards/skis and hopped on the main chair lift heading up the mountain. I then looked up at the sky and saw more stars at once then I have ever seen my entire life, I felt completed surrounded by stars from being so high up the mountain, when I looked behind me away from the mountain the stars seemed to be almost at eye level. After the mile long ride I got off my chair and snowboarded the half mile or so to the bottom of the lift I was working for the day in complete darkness surrounded by stars and trees. After shoveling some snow at the bottom I rode a chair to my first station at the top lift shack one of the highest points on the mountain as the sun was rising. I worked a really long day 5am to 5pm but between the night sky, watching the sunrise, the awesome weather, and getting to snowboard on my lunch break it was probably my favorite day of work for any job I have ever had. Also you can’t beat getting to snowboarding to and from work.

I don’t know if it’s the cold weather, the altitude, or just that I snowboard everyday but most mornings when I wake up it seems like almost every part of my body I have ever injured is incredibly sore. My right knee is the worst it’s only been 4 months since my acl/meniscus surgery but most mornings it takes a few hours before I can even bend it more than 20 degrees or walk without a limp. My ankles aren’t much better, throughout the 12 years I played soccer I probably sprained each of them at least 5 times and usually after a day of snowboarding my ankles feel like they are on fire.

I can barely hold a pen or pencil with my right hand after surgery on my arm I broke 6 years ago playing soccer, and then hand surgery again after shattering the bone in the palm of my hand and around my thumb mountain biking last December also when it gets cold enough my arm and hand just generally ache in pain.

Last winter was my most painful injury. I caught an edge while snowboarding off a jump at a ski area in Missouri and dropped about 8 feet onto mostly solid ice landing on my back with my feet still in the air I also smacked my head on the ice. My first thought after falling on my back was “oh shit oh shit I hope I didn’t break my back” followed by “shit I might have a concussion”. But after rolling around in pain for a few minutes I ended up standing up on my own while still in extreme pain and hiking down the hill to my car where I sat for an hour before the pain resided enough for me to drive home. I had a horrible headache and a huge black bruise on my back the next day and I still have back pain every now and then from that fall if I stand up for extended periods of time.

I have never been diagnosed with a concussion but that’s probably because I have never gone to the doctor for a head injury. I have hit my head several times the worst last year when I was in college. While playing club soccer I ran full speed for a header and ended up getting knocked to the ground out cold after colliding with an Austrian on the team who was twice my size. After waking up I rolled around on the ground for a few seconds until I stopped seeing black, then I got up and kept playing with the worst headache and whiplash I have ever had.

I really want to get into surfing, climbing, and long boarding this summer because I think they would be a little easier on my body.

Colorado

4 Nov

Friday I left for Colorado, I packed 99% of my stuff the morning I left but I don’t own very many things so I had no problems. I did not enjoy the 10 hour drive here very much especially since this was the 5 th time in less than a year I have driven I-70 from Missouri to Colorado, but I made the whole drive without going crazy. I stayed in a hotel in Georgetown, Colorado friday night, then I moved in (dropped all my stuff on the floor) to my employee apartment saturday morning. Then after moving in my focus became 100% on getting my employee ski pass as quick as possible and after filling out a bunch of paper work and paying my rent I finally got it around 11 am and I was snowboarding by  11:15. After the lifts closed at 4:30 I went and picked up my uniform and watched football in the super nice lobby of our building with some other employees.

The most awesome thing about living here is how close I live to the slopes, today (sunday) I woke up at 8:15 got dressed grabbed a pop tart and my snowboard then after a 5 minute walk I was on the lift riding up the mountain where I boarded untill 4:30. Also within walking distance of me are several restaurants, shops, and a grocery store.

My roommate doesn’t move in for a few more weeks, so I don’t have to pick all my stuff up off the floor for a while. I have only been here 2 days but so far this place has been pretty awesome and I don’t think I will have a problem living here for 6 months, I have 4 days of lift operator training starting tomorrow.

Holy Sunsets

8 Oct

Seriously- the sunsets here, right now, could not get any more beautiful. If I were thinking I would grab my camera and share the beauty with all of the world wide web, but alas, I don’t take enough pictures and my camera is far away from me.

Speaking of pictures- I finally took pictures of my new place! And now I would show them to you but I can’t figure this out. Maybe I’ll attach them to the end of this blog….

I can’t believe it’s already October. Where has the semester gone. And I really should know a lot more information from my classes by now- but I don’t. That’s a problem. Especially since midterms are right around the corner….

This weekend was Homecoming and I did not participate. Tori and I watched the football game on tv and we were pulverized by Montana who is ranked only one seed above us (I think). But I did learn some news yesterday… we have an actual dance for Homecoming. I seriously had no idea that it’s the same as high school with the dance and game and parade and everything! Oh and I was reminded that we have a parade at 9:30 in the morning Saturday with the band playing right outside of my dorm, they are pretty good actually.

Navigators is keeping me pretty busy. Thursday I helped to kick off the most favorited activity ever: Swing Dancing! (I actually am not a fan of swing dancing, or dancing in general, but seems like every other person involved in Navs is in love with it and is really good at it). I got to be the DJ which was great because I only had to dance twice and always had an excuse to cut out of a song early. Overall, everyone had a good time and the turn out was great! In two weeks I’ll be going to the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park for an anual conference for the Navs teams from the surrounding areas. Three or four campuses from Colorado, and a couple from New Mexico and Wyoming and maybe one from Montana. This will be my second time in the mountains this semester and I really can’t wait to see all the aspen trees being all yellow.  I will take my camera then, so I can show y’all the greatness of the mountains.

– Almost forgot! A few friends and I have been going to the rock wall at the gym almost every day this past week. It is super fun and challenging every time we go. I have a couple of nice bruises on my knees and two gross scars on the backs of both hands from hanging on for dear life when I forget that someone is holding me on to the wall with a rope. So climbing is my new favorite thing and I’m hoping to go on Thanksgiving break at IBEX.

Hope these pictures work-

Florence + The Machine

8 Oct

Whats Up Party People?

Last monday night I attended the Florence + The Machine Concert at Starlight theater with Kendyl and Megan. The night started with Kendyl forgetting the tickets and having to drive back home to get them. Then after arriving at Starlight and walking half way to the theater Megan realized she forgot to lock her car so me and Kendyl had to wait as she went back to lock it. After Megan locked her car we finally got to the ticket gate where after getting my ticket scanned I turned around to see the event staff telling Kendyl she could not take her camera in, so I waited again as Kendyl and Megan went back to the car again. A little bit later after finally getting in and taking our seats I smiled at an events staff lady and charmed her into giving us free wristbands so we could stand right in front of the stage for the concert which was amazing. We were standing right in front of the stage by a wall of speakers throughout the entire concert, I could feel my internal organs vibrating to the music. Me and Florence had a moment when we locked eyes and she looked right into my soul, although I think she is into witchcraft I could go along with it if we were to ever get married. The concert was pretty zesty and I got to do a bit of fist pumping and screaming. I want to see Florence + The Machine live again but hopefully next time it will be at Red Rocks.

I have not done much of interest lately, I leave for Colorado in 26 days and I spend a decent amount of my time every day staring at my snowboard and giving him the attention and affection he deserves. I started running again last week for the first time since I tore my ACL in May and I can say that I have never enjoyed running more.

I have been rock climbing a lot lately, not at IBEX but out in nature where it is free. Friday I was about 10 feet up a 20 foot rock face at the lakes when I reached for a crack in the cliff and ended up pulling a frying pan sized rock down on my head causing me to fall to the ground. I ended up with a bleeding forehead, bloody scalp, a huge headache, and a deep cut to the bone on my left thumb. From now on I think I am going to pay to climb at IBEX where its safer and they have ropes that catch you when you fall.

This is Me in 26 days!

Life after the X Games

1 Feb

I was busy driving back from Colorado Monday and I was busy sleeping Tuesday so I am posting today.

2012 Winter X Games

So this last weekend was the 2012 Winter X Games which were freaking ZESTY. I have already decided I am at the least going to go to the next 9 Winter X Games to make it 10 Straight. Even if 9 Years from now I end up being one of those people we may of (We 100% did) bad mouth for bringing a baby or small child to the X Games (I Really really Really hope that isn’t me), though I now understand that you gotta do what you gotta do, no matter what to go. First off me and Cody went Skiing and Snowboarding on the way to the X Games at Loveland Ski area, located at 10 thousand feet. We were a little out of breath and dizzy the entire time from being so high up, but it was totally worth it, we hit every trail no matter how hard or how stupidly dangerous it was. I really wanted to and still do want to drop out of college and go work there all winter every winter FOREVER!

Normal Life

Indoor soccer with the club soccer team started up last week and I am constantly sore and dead tired from it. I have been back from Colorado for 2 days and I have already went through 7 cans of Red Bull I will admit it I have a problem I am addicted to Red Bull, but I quit drinking pop so its all good and healthy. I also have a really bad habit of falling asleep in class, so that’s where Red Bull come in handy. I am also doing something this semester that I have never done in my life, which is study for a test more then a day in advanced. I am studying for test I don’t have for weeks, sorry if that’s just a norm for you guys but I am proud of my self for it.

This Picture  is supposed to be a Lazy College Senior but it applies to me, so I guess I have all ready matured to the level of a college senior, Right?

Life After the X Games sucks!
Peace to your Double Corks, Love to you Backside Rodeos, and Happiness to perfect 100’s

Before you burn me at the stake…

27 Jan

Sorry bros. I know yesterday was my blogging day. But I was just so super busy this whole week that it slipped my mind.
First of all it was/is recruitment week. Second we left for Colorado last night. Thirdly, I had symphony rehearsal. And lastly, if you read my post, it was Chinese New Year so I went home for some din din.

I actually missed a lot of recruitment week this week because of all of the mention reasons. But the days that I did go to were a lot of fun. But the sorority I would like to join didn’t invite me to their events because I missed out on the meet people days.  My choices are the ADPi or DZ. The girls in the first one are nice, but just a little bit socially awkward. And the DZ girls are super nice also, but their nicknames are D-Z sleezies OR Easy D-Zs.

Also I cut my hair super short if you didn’t see that on FB.

Anyway, I’m blogging from COLORADO! It’s currently snowing and super windy. We’re at the ski resort. Here’s the view:

Derek and Cody decided to go ski/snowboard. Me, Kendyl and Lei are chillin in the restaurant/lounge area. Lei and I are too poor and well underprepared to be out on the slopes. And all of us just feel like crap from what seems to be the longest road trip ever. Like we have headaches, aches, and are just plain tired. Kendyl has been up for pretty much a day and a couple of hours. She took mini naps that didn’t last more than 30 mins I’d say. I slept probably a couple hours, but uncomfortably.

We’ll be here until Monday. And we’ll be seeing SHAUN WHITE! I’m not as big of a fan as Derek or Kendyl are. But I’m not going to lie, I’m SUPER excited to see him.

I’m sure you’ll hear more about our trip soon! 🙂 Wish you all were here with us!
Megan

PS. Sorry if nothing makes sense in this post or there’s a lot of grammatical errors– I’m super tired.

Wait, You have to be awake to attend Geology?

23 Jan

To start off this post I must state that I cant really do anything productive this week, because I am to excited to go to the winter X games, to go to Colorado, to go Snowboarding in Colorado, to see Shaun White, and just a little bit excited to hear/sing All star by Smash mouth 100 times (The same goes for Kendyl times 5).

With that being said the last two  weeks have been  boring typical weeks consisting of going to class, learning, sleeping and eating. Except for Geology which I have Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 10:00 am. I have already slept through it twice once each week so far, and I have only had it five times, and one of those times class was cancelled after five minutes because the projector was broke. So I have only been to two Geology lectures in 2 weeks. On top of that I am going to miss it this Friday and Monday for Colorado. So next week I will have attended Geology 5 of 9 times, I don’t think that’s good, especially for my favorite class.

Really the only interesting thing that has happened here so far this semester was Saturday night when Ron let his roommate Dylan (The Beard) punch him in the face for twenty dollars. Dylan is a bouncer at a bar back in Nebraska where he has been stabbed, and shot in the leg, he is buff. It would take several thousand dollars for me to let Dylan punch me. Any ways so Dylan found some MMA fighting gloves making it .0000000000001% less stupid of Ron for letting him do it. Then Ron took off his glasses closed it eyes and BAM, Dylan did not hold back at all, Ron was so dizzy and out of it afterward that he was barely able to grasp the twenty dollars Dylan gave him.

Sunday I played soccer for the first time since November. We only played for a hour and a half but I am so out of shape that I thought I was going to die. I took a 30 minute hot shower afterward because I was immediately super sore.

On another note it is currently Snowing cats and pandas. This is the 4th time we have gotten a quick heavy snowstorm that only dumped a inch or less.

Colorado in 3 Days and Counting, X Games in 5 Days and Counting!
