Work Hard, Play Hard

14 Oct

Copper Mountain got more snow this week, this picture is of the village at the base of the mountain where I will be living, only 18 days until I move there.

I have been researching guide jobs for next summer and I found a company I like called Ace Adventure Resort located in West Virginia. They have a lot cool guide jobs like white water rafting guide, zipline guide, atv guide, rock climbing guide, kayaking guide, sup board guide, mountain bike guide and more. Also its all located in a very scenic area of the Appalachian Mountains, and it looks like there would be a lot of awesome stuff to do when I am not working all for free. The catch is if employed by them my choices for housing would be my own tent on an employee campground for free, or a very basic cabin with no electricity and I would live in one of these from may to october. Although living in a cabin for several months would be a cool experience and I would be able to save up a lot of money  I am not sure if I want to do it. Not having electricity means I would have to cook food over a campfire or a wood stove which would be a healthy alternative to all the microwaved food I currently eat, and I would probably even have to do laundry by hand seeing as no electricity means no washing machines. The resort looks like it would be a ridiculously awesome place to work at though, and who knows if I do decide to apply there and get hired mabey I can convince some friends to work there with me (Cough cough fellow chrisman2college bloggers). You can check them out at http://www.aceraft.com/

Besides working I am still spending a lot of time rehabbing my knee, I have been running every day for the last two weeks and doing various knee exercises designed to strengthen it. Hopefully it will be healed up soon before I start snowboarding here in a few weeks.

Next weekend I will not be posting, I am going down to Bentonville, Arkansas to camp, mountain bike, cliff jump, and eat at my favorite restaurant on earth http://www.hammontreesgourmet.com/.

Anybody see this episode of the office? I thought Megan might get a kick out of asian Jim.

Holy Sunsets

8 Oct

Seriously- the sunsets here, right now, could not get any more beautiful. If I were thinking I would grab my camera and share the beauty with all of the world wide web, but alas, I don’t take enough pictures and my camera is far away from me.

Speaking of pictures- I finally took pictures of my new place! And now I would show them to you but I can’t figure this out. Maybe I’ll attach them to the end of this blog….

I can’t believe it’s already October. Where has the semester gone. And I really should know a lot more information from my classes by now- but I don’t. That’s a problem. Especially since midterms are right around the corner….

This weekend was Homecoming and I did not participate. Tori and I watched the football game on tv and we were pulverized by Montana who is ranked only one seed above us (I think). But I did learn some news yesterday… we have an actual dance for Homecoming. I seriously had no idea that it’s the same as high school with the dance and game and parade and everything! Oh and I was reminded that we have a parade at 9:30 in the morning Saturday with the band playing right outside of my dorm, they are pretty good actually.

Navigators is keeping me pretty busy. Thursday I helped to kick off the most favorited activity ever: Swing Dancing! (I actually am not a fan of swing dancing, or dancing in general, but seems like every other person involved in Navs is in love with it and is really good at it). I got to be the DJ which was great because I only had to dance twice and always had an excuse to cut out of a song early. Overall, everyone had a good time and the turn out was great! In two weeks I’ll be going to the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park for an anual conference for the Navs teams from the surrounding areas. Three or four campuses from Colorado, and a couple from New Mexico and Wyoming and maybe one from Montana. This will be my second time in the mountains this semester and I really can’t wait to see all the aspen trees being all yellow.  I will take my camera then, so I can show y’all the greatness of the mountains.

– Almost forgot! A few friends and I have been going to the rock wall at the gym almost every day this past week. It is super fun and challenging every time we go. I have a couple of nice bruises on my knees and two gross scars on the backs of both hands from hanging on for dear life when I forget that someone is holding me on to the wall with a rope. So climbing is my new favorite thing and I’m hoping to go on Thanksgiving break at IBEX.

Hope these pictures work-

Sketch

13 Mar

Last Wednesday was the first time everybody in my climbing class got to climb^. We were put into groups of 3, I was in a group with 2 girls I did not know. Then we were given our harnesses without instruction on how to put them on (sketch). Next somebody from each group had to climb first the two girls elected me to my displeasure (Sexist). I am not scared of heights, and I enjoy climbing pretty much anything, but I was a little scared because the only way to get down form the top of the 50 foot tower was to be belayed (lowered) down by which ever partner you were hooked to by the rope. The girl in our group I was hooked to was half my size and half my weight (Sketch Sketch), I don’t know a lot about physics but that scared me. So I got hooked up tied my self in and pretty easily climbed to the top of the tower, but to get down I had to sit down and scoot myself off the edge of the top platform 50 feet off the ground so the rope could catch me and my partner could lower me to the ground using the techniques we were taught. But as I scooted of the edge I looked down at her face and saw a look of confusion, horror, and terror as if she didn’t remember what she was taught about controlling my descent  to keep me from plummeting to the ground (Sketchy, Sketch, Sketch).

She was not doing this^, no smile, and brake hand was off rope

But I whispered Live A Little to my self and slid off the edge anyways and well I am still alive so she did safely remember how to lower me down.

I start work at the Marina this Saturday at 7 am which is fantastic because I am almost broke. Also my spring break is next week (Holla).

Living The Honey Badger Life

16 Jan

I am am living my life right  like the Honey Badger, which is my FAVORITE animal.

Honey Badgers opinion on most things: Honey Badger don’t give a shit!

This semester I am taking 14 credit Hours. Monday I only have Geology from 10-11:50 am, so far I like it allot and find most of it interesting enough to pay attention the whole time, except for the one day we discussed chemistry (I hate chemistry its the reason I am not a geology major).

Tuesday I have Sociology from 9:35-10:50, its not near as fun as Mr. Vickers class was, but its not to bad. Then I have Art appreciation from 3:35-4:50 pm, it is the most boring class ever! My Professor shows us picture after stupid picture, and she  just goes crazy over analyzing them. One picture she showed us was a bunch of random black straight lines crossing randomly over each other with a white background, and she related it to Lions chasing a water buffalo in Africa. Straight lines = Lions in Africa, hell no they don’t. (she is freaking crazy). My opinion of that class is the same as the Honey badger.

Wednesday I only have Geology again, but starting on February 27th I have Ropes Challenger course facilitator training from 4:30-7:30pm out at the lake. This class is once a week for only the second half of the semester for 3 easy a credits which I need badly (more on that later). This is the hardest climbing class they have, the whole class is about them teaching us advanced climbing skills and safety and what not. If I finish this class which I will (It was pretty much made for me), then I will be a certified climbing instructor and I will be able to get a job next year assisting with the other climbing classes.

Thursday I have Sociology and art again, but I also have Geology lab from 1-2:50 pm which so far I like.

Friday I only have Geology again.

I am on academic probation from last semester which means that to be able to attend school there next year (not sure I even want to), I have to get my whole GPA including last semesters classes above a 2.0. Last semester I had a 1.3 GPA I know I am bad student but that’s low even for me. So to get it up I cant have any F’s or D’s, I can have one C and I need some A’s. Hints why I took easy classes. Being kicked out of school is the motivation I needed because I am actually trying and paying attention in all of my classes for the first time in EVER EVER EVER.

Peace to your Pet Honey Badgers, Love to your inner Honey Badger, and Happiness to your Honey Badger thoughts!
