A few complaints and an ode to free Mexican food

12 Feb

This is the fourth week of the semester.

The fifth week of the semester is when, to use a colloquial phrase, shit gets real.

Next week, I have four major assignments due, a paper, and test. The paper and test are both for Tuesday, for the same class. That’s not awesome.

Also, I need to figure out how I am supposed to complete 30 hours of service to the Hispanic community this semester when a) no one I contact ever gets back to me and b) I’m not convinced that Springfield even has a Hispanic community??

And, I basically got officially told that I can’t live in this apartment again next year. That blows. If 50% of the residents want to keep the same one, they can. I wanted to keep it but so do four other girls (two of my current roommates and the two girls Hanna and I replaced who are studying abroad now). The good news is that I can live with Caitlin again but we really want to live in this building and at this point we’ll have to sign up and just hope there will be enough spots. And find two more people.

Last night I ran into Carson and I talked to him for like 20 minutes right outside his apartment door. Not sure why we didn’t go inside because it was effing cold but we decided that this weekend we’re gonna go to Trops since his birthday is on Friday (SO EXCITED). I can’t wait to start making money again so I can start to justify some of my expenses. Haha.

And tonight I’m going to dinner with the Spanish club at a Mexican restaurant and it looks like, depending on the number of people who go, our food will be either substantially discounted or free because the club got money from the student government. Free Mexican food, seriously what could be better?

Oh yeah! If any of you want to check out my London website that I’m making for my Web Comm class, here’s the link! http://www.madaboutlondonguide.com It’s under construction so it’s not that cute yet but check for updates during the semester! My professor even said I should use a couple of guest bloggers, so I’m gonna ask Hanna to but if any of you guys have a topic you would want to make a short post about, let me know!

Miss you! Hope to see you in a few weeks #legalfun

Busy Semester

30 Jan

Hey, friends. I apologize for being absent from the blog. I’m just finally getting settled into my routine.

Break was too short, as it always seems to be. I spent most of it watching Netflix, lounging, eating, and hanging out with you lot, of course. And I also learned to SKI. THAT WAS SO MUCH FUN. I also got a Tumblr, which was a bad idea because I already spend too much of my time on other forms of social media. Now this just further takes up my time and also feeds my unhealthy obsessions with Benedict Cumberbatch and the like.

School has been going smoothly. I’m taking classes at MU and Central Methodist. It’s kind of a long story but I’m at CMU so I can apply to their nursing school at the end of the semester. I’m currently at 17 credit hours, which is the most I have ever taken. However, the best part is that my classes don’t start until 11 and I have Fridays off!

I’m mainly taking electives at Mizzou because I’m waiting to get into nursing school. However, most of them are quite challenging and time consuming. Anyway I’m enrolled in Public Speaking, Intro to Art and Biology Lab at MU. I’m enrolled in 3 classes at CMU. Religion, Pathophysiology, and Literature. The later two are online and all 3 are prerequisites to apply for nursing at CMU.

My favorite classes so far are Public Speaking and Intro to Art. Both of my instructors (actually all of them) at MU are all Grad Students and they’re all pretty chill. I had to give a 3 minute speech the other day in Public Speaking and I’m pretty sure that was the worst 3 minutes of my life. I always get shaky and my face gets really hot (which probably means that it’s also super red) when I have to do something in front of a crowd. But I think I’m going to like that class because I get to write about what I want to talk about, not some analysis of a book that I didn’t want to read. My art class is 3 hours long, but it is definitely a nice stress reliever.

I’ve decided to cut back on hours at the good ol’ HV since I’m taking so many credits. I figured 10 is about good, but now I’m kind of regretting it because I really need money to pay for school/school things. But school is taking up a lot of time. It’s really a never ending cycle.

In terms of nursing school, I turned in my application on Monday. Interviews are next Friday. And in the midst of all of that, I already have a huge pile of projects and assignments to complete. Plus we’ve got birthdays to celebrate next week!! EEKKK!! We’re all getting so old! 😉

Peace out, girl scouts.

Megan

PS. HAPPY EARLY CHINESE NEW YEAR!! Not home for it this year unfortunately. #sadpanda

Real Life Again

22 Jan

Well, here I am in my fourth day back on the Lane. It’s really hard to believe that break’s already over, and I’m in Springfield again. The past two years of college, I always spent around half of my break in Germany, so it never felt very long. This year, even though I went to Germany, I still had four weeks of break at home and I was expecting it to go pretty slow since I wasn’t working or anything. I guess I was having too much fun with you guys and my family for it to go by as quickly as it did.

I can’t say that I’m unhappy to be back in Springfield though. I packed all my stuff, most of which was never unpacked from London, and on Saturday my family and I drove down here in three separate cars. We arrived around 4pm and went to Lambert’s for dinner. That’s our tradition. Then we went back to the hotel. In the morning, we drove all three cars over to school and I moved into my new apartment in University Suites. And it’s pretty suite. Did I tell you I forgot my textbooks at home? Basic. We ate at Fazoli’s and made our annual Walmart run, then Becky left to go to Rolla and the rest of my family went back home. I hung out with Carson and we waited for Hanna to get here.

Sunday night I hung out with Hanna and another roommate, Morgan, and some of their sorority friends. Woke up Monday morning not feeling so hot, haha… took a shower which was the worst shower of my life because the water was coming out too hard and then Madi (who we went to London with) picked Hanna and me up for lunch. I felt better by then, and when we came home Hanna and I went to Carson’s for a little. I had Panera for dinner and Caitlin came over to watch the Bachelor. I spent the rest of the night taking buzzfeed quizzes and hanging up the rest of my wall decorations.

Yesterday I had two classes, Intro to Environmental Science which I’m guessing will be just like my Climate Change class I had with the same teacher in fall 2012, and Communication and Ethics, which is with the teacher I had for Presentational Speaking class freshman year. I am about 99% sure he teared up at one point. I think that class will be good though. I met with the Spanish professor who will be doing my independent study with me and we decided on meeting days/times. I also talked to my manager at the family center and I emailed him my hours of availability so hopefully the ball gets rolling on that pretty soon. I skyped Moritz and then went to dinner with Hanna and Morgan, and we came back and sat in the kitchen and talked for about five hours and ate some chocolate cake and then went to bed.

This morning I woke up early at about 7:15 and took a shower, which I have now (mostly) fixed… for the first time, I didn’t get water all over the floor! I picked up my textbooks I ordered from the bookstore and ate breakfast in the commons (it’s omelette day). Then I went to my first class, Strategic Writing for Advertising and Public Relations. It’s my first 400-level Communication class, and it’s with my adviser/the head of the communication department, so I think it will be really tough but the teacher is so nice and I know she is going to teach me a lot. It’s my smallest class too, and a lot of us already know each other. One interesting thing about it, though, is that we have to dress “professional” every Wednesday and that’s actually part of our grade.

Then I had Web Communication with my Media Writing teacher from last year and we’re going to make our own website, so I think that will be pretty fun. I think I might do mine about London. He says we are required to buy our own domain and web server (since he only made us get one textbook. ha)

After class, I drove to Clinton, MO, which is about halfway between Independence and Springfield, to meet my mom so she could give me the rest of my textbooks (oooops). We had lunch at Applebee’s and I told her about my classes so far and she gave me my books plus some more stuff I requested like nail polish and hot chocolate. So I just got back about an hour ago.

Well, school’s off to a good start but I can definitely tell it’s going to be a busy and challenging semester. I proved I could handle it last spring, but let’s just hope that London didn’t make me too lazy and forget my good habits.

Ready for London!

18 Nov

I am officially registered for classes next semester I am taking 15 credit hours and I am weirdly actually excited to go back to being a full-time student. I am only taking two classes this semester public speaking which I hate with a passion, and college mathematics which I actually somewhat enjoy. Mainly because my professor is awesome but I occasionally find the math I am being taught to be interesting instead of stupid and boring like normal.

I am starting to get stressed about what I want to major in even though I have another semester to decide. I pretty much think about what I want to major in and do with my life several times a day every day, and constantly change my mind  and consider different things as I get more stressed out in a never-ending cycle of me being undecided.

I am on my second week working in before and after school child care and its growing on me. Not sure how or why, considering I have never liked beings around kids even the slightest. But after a horrible first week things are starting to look up for my new job and I think I will be able to tolerate working it through the rest of the school year.

I spent last weekend visiting Meewan and Kendz at Mizzou, we had a small get together Friday night with some friends and one gigantic slore of a douche bag. Then Saturday morning Kendyl and I spent several hours sitting at McDonald’s to avoid some awkwardness back at the apartment. Then we spent the majority of the rest of the day recording our awesome debut album (torturing the neighbors with our singing). Lawlz. On Sunday we finished up planning for London, and went to the park on a 60 degree day (Its November wtf weather?) so Meewan could practice riding her bike.

And last WE LEAVE FOR LONDON FRIDAY.

I am literally excited for every part of this trip and I mean every part. From airport security to the flights there to seeing Cathy for the first time in months to the death stare Kendyl and I will give Megan when she tries to use her fake British accent and last to all  incredibly fun, weird and probs awkward times we are going to have in Europe. This trip will be LEGEND Wait for It DARY.

Peace, Love, and Happiness

Feelin’ like a creep

13 Nov

Hi everyone, guess what? Only TEN DAYS until I see your beautiful faces! I’m so excited!

This weekend, I’m going to Prague (which is in the Czech Republic). There are 10 of us going. 9 of us are people that like each other and are good friends. 1 of us is someone that we’re not really sure why she’s going, and 2 of us have very strong feelings against this 1, so we will see how that goes. I don’t know a lot about Prague but I’ve heard it is really beautiful and I am excited to go to another new country!

Luckily, my hard week of papers (which was last week) is over so I’ve celebrated by not really doing anything, which is okay because I don’t really have to. Out of the past 7 nights, 3 have involved things for my theater class and 2 have involved large quantities of alcohol.

Speaking of theater, I fell in love with a play that I saw last night, the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, and I wrote more about it at my other blog if you want to check that out in a while!
http://cathyinlondon2013.wordpress.com

In other news, my International Relations class has turned into “Read Articles On Your Phone About The Kansas City Chiefs And Their Prospects Of Beating The Denver Broncos, But Don’t Let Your Teacher Notice You’re On Your Phone The Whole Time” class. Needless to say, that’s a lot more fun than trying to learn about something that your teacher doesn’t even know how to explain.

Today I went to Oxford Street to make some videos of social interactions between people. I had to do it for my Interpersonal Communication class, which I actually pay attention in because 1) it’s interesting; 2) it’s easy, and 3) my teacher is not a dimwit. I had to creepily try to film people while they talked or whatever, hoping they would do things such as gesture, scratch their nose, or show facial expressions, so I can make a presentation for my class and explain their illustrators, self-adaptors, and affect displays, respectively. It was super weird and it’s impossible to hold your phone in a way where it looks like you’re texting but you can still get a good video. I felt like everyone knew I was filming as I pointed my phone at them. Also, every store on Oxford Street is huge and has security and personnel around every corner, probably to look out for creepy people like me. Eventually I stood in a mall and filmed a mother and her adult daughter having some food and talking.

I can’t believe that when I get back from Prague, there will only be 5 days until you guys are here! I better start getting my projects done so they won’t be a problem once you get here!

I miss you all!

Hot Commodities.

5 Nov

I signed up for my classes yesterday and my schedule doesn’t seem too bad. I won’t have classes on Friday and very minimal classes Monday-Thursday because I’m taking all of my health science classes (7 credits) online.

Friday I drove home with Tristan so I could play in my last two indoor soccer games and Tristan even played (lol). Then after the games Megan and Derek came over and we ate pizza and Megan finished learning how to ride her bike! It was pretty cold so we got blankets and watched Megan conquer the art of bike riding under the stars (which might I add were really bright that evening).

Saturday I slept in because it was the first Saturday in forever that I wasn’t working! Then my mom took me to the post office to get international stamps because like I said in an earlier post stamps are a hot commodity. After that we picked up Tristan from home and took him to get a shot at CVS so he doesn’t get dirty dorm room diseases. After that we went to visit my Grandma since I wasn’t going to be able to go to her house for Sunday dinner. At about 3 we headed back to Columbia so we could go to the Mizzou Football game because Tristan had gotten me a ticket from his friend Jordan. We sat on a blacket in the grassy section behind the endzone and they won 31-3 Yiphee!

Sunday was relaxation/cleaning/homework/Chiefs are 9-0 day!!!

This weekend we are planning on going up to the farm because I won’t be able to over Thanksgiving break. I’ll be sure to take some photos of some quality Laughlin Angus cows for you guys.

P.S. I graduate in a little over a year and a month… SCARY.

P.P.S. I’m not even old enough to drink a fucking beer (lol Tristan #wombies)

P.P.P.S. Three hour saga 🙂

Gettin’ Weird in London

6 Sep

The past week has been really fun getting into my classes and settling into the swing of life here in London. I’m trying not to spend as much money as I did in the first 5 days, which I’m doing okay so far. I’m trying to spend 100 pounds per week, which I’m over the budget right now but there are still a lot of one-time expenses I have to buy (like a liter of Bacardi for 14 pounds). That will last me awhile. Honestly though I have been very responsible with my spending so far.

I think last night was the craziest night at Regent’s so far. All of us went to a club for free and most people (including myself) pregamed. I was in a big dancing mood when I got there. After a while, the group I was with decided to leave so we left. I remember we were standing on the sidewalk telling two British guys that we were from Toronto, then we were about to get in a taxi to go home with our friends, but then these two guys invited us to a rooftop bar. Hanna wanted to go and I didn’t want to leave her alone so I went too.

There was a bouncer at the door and at the elevator. One of the guys said his grandfather owned this hotel. We went to the roof and there was a beautiful view of London all lit up. The guys offered to buy us drinks but we declined. The one who was talking to me asked if I had a boyfriend and I said yes so he said he wouldn’t try anything with me. Then I talked about Moritz for a while and told him the story of how we met 😉

This is where we were sitting at this bar.

This is where we were sitting at this bar. (not my pic)

Me and Hanna on the roof

Me and Hanna on the roof

Hanna and I went to the bathroom and came up with a game plan called “Let’s Go Home Now” so she tried to get her guys number as a signal that we wanted to leave. They subsequently called us a taxi, got in with us, got out with us, didn’t offer to pay for it, and followed us into our school. Security is supposed to stop anyone without a student ID and they didn’t even look up when they came in. We wished they would have. The guys followed us into our room. When Megan came home she cozied up with the one who wasn’t with Hanna. The guys declared they were staying the night and would leave at 6am to go to work. They shared my roommates’ beds and it was a little annoying. When they left in the morning today I was pretty happy.

Elsewhere in our school last night, according to our RA and one of our friends, this girl who is always drunk was apparently walking around the guys’ hallway naked. Going door to door. Guess what? That’s my partner for a 20-minute presentation on Marxism in two weeks.

Other than last night, things aren’t too crazy here. There’s always something to do and someone to hang out with. I might go out tonight but only to go somewhere and sit down and talk. Maybe the student bar would be a good place for that.

I miss you guys, G+ soon??

Cathy

P.S. Have any of you gotten a postcard yet??

P.P.S. My London Blog

A Week in the Life

6 Feb

I almost decided not to blog today. Which is crazy, because I ALWAYS blog on my day, unlike some other people *coughNICKcough*. But I had a really good reason for almost not blogging, and that reason is the fact that literally nothing happened this week other than me working my butt off.

But then I decided I could just talk about what classes I have this semester and that would suffice for a satisfactory blog topic.

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays:

10:00-10:50 am – COMM 215, Foundations of Communication Theory
This class is pretty okay. The final product will be a research paper over a specific communication theory, which we work on in groups of three for the whole semester. The paper will be 15-20 pages long, using at least 18 sources, 10 of which must be academic journal articles. My group consists of myself, a girl who is also a Spanish/Comm double major who lives next door to me named Jacy, and a boy named Kevin who lives in the apartment above Jacy, also next door to me. Our topic is “Media Framing of the Sandy Hook School Shooting,” and I’m actually really excited about it.

1:00-1:50 pm – COMM 231, Principles of Advertising and Public Relations
This class is also okay, but if I had to pick a least favorite class so far it’d probably be this one. The teacher is from South Korea and has a really thick accent, but she is really nice and dresses very fashionably. I just like this class less because it’s very much a “lecture-style” class (which are pretty uncommon here at Drury).

2:00-2:50 pm – COMM 221, Media Writing
I like this class a lot more than I thought I would. I figured it would be like journalism, which I don’t want to be a journalist, but I’ve learned a lot about writing in general which is necessary and helpful. My professor is really cool, he graduated from the school of Journalism at Mizzou. Our assignments regularly consist of tweeting about things and writing blog posts. I can dig it.

Tuesdays and Thursdays:

9:30-10:50 am – SPAN 302, Culture of Spain: “Traveling through Spain”
¡Me encanta esta clase! (I love this class.) I have the same professor that I had last semester for my Spanish Literature class, and she is la bomba (da bomb). I’ve had a lot of great professors at Drury, but I’d say she’s the frontrunner thus far. She insists that we call her by her first name, “Heidi”, instead of “Dr.” because she’s from Wisconsin (even though she eventually lived in Spain) and says people don’t do that there. She is really fun to talk to and makes class awesome. Our homework is literally to “walk around” on Google Street View of different cities in Spain, pretending we are there, and write a “diario de viaje” (travel journal) about what we did and saw there. Here’s where we had to walk around in Madrid (if you’d like to do so): Link to Madrid.
And our final project is to plan our own trip to Spain.

11:00-11:50 am – SPAN 310, Spanish Pronunciation and Phonetics (Tuesday Only)
This class is aight. It’s very strange. It’s a one-hour class, smack-dab in the middle of my other two Spanish classes on Tuesday, and I have a different professor who I’ve never had before. After only 2 classes, we’ve learned how to properly define syllables in Spanish, and how they slur certain sounds together. Most of this class has been in English so far, actually – it’s supposed to be in Spanish but the book is kind of confusing so we all end up reverting back to our mother tongue in order to figure out what the heck is going on. Also, yesterday I had to choose a poem to read to the class, so I chose “Rimas Humanas: CXCI” por Lope de Vega because we read it last semester and I like it.

12:00-1:20 pm – SPAN 493, Senior Seminar: “Franquismo in Spanish Visual and Print Culture: 1936-1992”
For this class, I have Heidi again, and there are a total of 7 people in this class (my other two Spanish classes have about 10). 3 of us are just sophomores. This class is about the Spanish Civil War. Guess what? I have to admit that I didn’t even know Spain even had a civil war until about 2 weeks ago. I know now though, and I love learning about it! It was from 1936-1939. So far, we have studied some propaganda techniques used by both sides during “La Guerra Civil” (the civil war) and war photographs, and listened to songs! It’s not a boring history class by any means. I’m really enjoying this class.

(I have to mention that it’s a very odd experience to have so many Spanish classes. I get so used to writing/speaking about these topics en español that I start thinking in Spanish to some extent! 4 hours of Spanish-speaking really messes with you, especially when you leave the classroom for the day and begin to consider addressing people walking by in Spanish.)

Some people go through 5 majors or more, jumping from one thing to the next. Others, a smaller percentage, like me, get the grand label of “Undecided” which, in my case, was due to a fear of commitment and a lack of the foresight that I usually require before making a big decision. But I’ve “unofficially” committed, finally, and I plan on declaring in a few months – to make sure that I’m really happy with this path. But as far as I know, this is it – I’ve finally found what I’m interested in and I have desire to do my homework and go to class because I finally CARE for once!! I think I finally know that I’m making the right decision. And I don’t regret the time it’s taken to get here.

Adios, amigos!

P.S.  A shout-out to Kendyl, happy birthday!

Sickness and Other Random Thoughts

31 Jan

Yep. I’m sick, guys. Stay away. I’m incubating viruses and bacteria in my room. Just kidding, it’s not that bad. Just a cold. But the bad thing is that since I’m taking microbiology, I’m learning about all the bacteria that’s causing my sickness. It’s quite lovely. Just kidding. It’s not. It’s turning me into a germaphobe, but not in an OCD kind of way. LOL.

Can I just talk for a second about how expensive textbooks are?! Like really, am I not paying enough money to take a class, but you still want me to pay hundreds of dollars for books?!! ARE YOU FOR REAL?

Anyway, this weekend I’m going home because I forgot a lot of things when I came back from break. That can probably be attributed to packing two hours before I left.  And also because I have to get some tax things sorted out. Oh and because I will have a week-ish of employment next next week (hopefully) at the candy store downton. Yeah a week is not that much, but at this point, I’m just kind of desperate for money.

This week has been pretty productive-less. And the homework/readings have just kept piling up. My mind/body still hasn’t realized that it’s time to hit the “school mode.” I have a 300-ish page book I have to read by Monday for a quiz. I’ve only read the first chapter. I never thought I’d say this, but the 6 week Christmas Break was probably a bad idea. Instead I’ve just watched a lot of Netflix, and spent too much time on YouTube, FB, Twitter, Pinterest and various other websites that contribute to my procrastination.

Okay, that’s all for now. Have to get back to my homework that I’ve procrastinated until last minute. Weeeeeeee.

Fall Break… Kind of.

30 Oct

Well it turns out that Mizzou doesn’t have a Fall break so I just had to create my own by just not going back to school.

Friday night was the free Imagine Dragons concert for homecoming week and it was off the chain. My ears continued to ring for two days so I think that tells you how awesome it was.

I drove home after the concert so I could watch Tristan run in his sectionals race the next morning. He got 19th place so he gets to go to state in Jeff city this weekend!

While I was home I my mom took me shopping and I was finally able to go to Forever 21 (it had been much too long) and we went to Costco so I could get an ice cream bar (if you haven’t had one from the food court there, trust me it will change your life).

I was planning on going back Sunday night, but then I learned that Tristan’s cross country banquet was on Tuesday and there would be fried chicken and mashed potatoes, so I weighed my options and clearly skipping class on Monday was the best choice.

I register for classes tomorrow so I have my classes picked out and I’m planning on taking chemistry, Bio lab, health sciences 1000 and 3300, Political Science, and Greek mythology.

I’m really lacking motivation currently, so this is all I got.

Keep it Classy.

-Kendyl

P.S. I found out today that Of Monsters and Men are coming to Kansas City for the Night the Buzz stole Christmas, but I won’t be here, so that’s unfortunate.

Also, the only followers we have on twitter are all of us and Tristan. It’s kind of pitiful.

30 Things I learned from College

17 Apr

30 Things I Learned from College

1. Attendance of  lectures is optional (Most my professors posted their lecture notes online along with test dates, meaning I only needed to show up for test)

2. Do not type a paper the day its due

3. Bed Time is never until after Mid Night

4. Do not do a project the day its due

5. You become a professional people watcher

6. Fraternity bro’s are as crazy as in the movies

7. If the trash starts moving around and making noise it should be taken out

8. Combine Shampoo and Body Wash so you don’t have to buy them as often

9. The school pond is infested with E Coli

10. Pepperoni Lunchables get nasty after 30 meals in a row

11. People actually drink Jungle Juice out of nasty hairy bathtubs

12. Colleges in the middle of nowhere produce more alcoholics then a bar with an entrance and no exit

13. Pizza can get unappetizing after several months

14. You skip classes because you are to lazy to climb out of your loft

15. No more than 2 cups of coffee or cans of Red Bull should be consumed daily, anymore and you start to shake and scream.

16. Easy classes are easy, hard classes are I wouldn’t know

17. The larger a class the less a professor cares

18. Labs Suck

19. Labs should be attended

20. The internet is meant to be explored During lectures

21.  That moment during a math test when the answer you get after minutes of work isn’t one of the choices, so you pick D because it hasn’t been picked for a while

22. Professors that suck at speaking English suck at teaching

23.  Microwaves are the most important devices on the planet

24. A dorm room is like a clown car, you can fit hella amounts of people in a dorm room

25. Whatever seat you pick the first day of class is yours for good, students are territorial

26. 99% of students are constantly moving, tapping legs pencils etc..

27. Laundry is best done after mid night

28. Most meals come from vending machines

29. All the socks you lose are under your bed

30. Its hard to hide a dog in a dorm room, its even harder to train a dog to use a littler box

My last few weeks have been very uneventful. This is my last week of classes, then I have finals next week, then I am done. I took my loft down today and didn’t feel like setting up my bed frame so I just set my mattress on the floor and that’s how I am keeping it. That is all.

Burn him at the Stake.

24 Jan

I guess I have to blog since I made this suggestion about Nick.

Classes are good, while my amount of sugar intake is not. My two views on this are that I am young and can eat whatever I want, but on the other hand Diabetes runs in my family. I’m working on it. Gradually. I’ll start after I finish my box of junior mints.

Everything seems to fall on the same week. This week is recruitment for the sororities so I’m going through to see if I want to join, I’m not really sure yet, too soon to tell. I also have to make sure I get everything for school done early since I will be missing several days for the X-Games. The X-Games. The X stands for EXTREME. I can not express on this blog how excited I am to see Shaun White! I’m also excited about the fact that I will be consuming copious amounts of red bull.

The NFL disappointed me, not to mention the Packers losing early on, but both the teams I wanted to see in the Super bowl (Ravens and 49ers) are out. What a troll.
The only positive thing from this is now Aaron Rodgers and Greg Jennings can actually play in the Pro bowl.

Here is a video my brothers showed me. Most of you probably won’t appreciate it, but I find it hilarious.

P.S. The sour will soon be removed.
Sometimes codes just make things better.

Wait, You have to be awake to attend Geology?

23 Jan

To start off this post I must state that I cant really do anything productive this week, because I am to excited to go to the winter X games, to go to Colorado, to go Snowboarding in Colorado, to see Shaun White, and just a little bit excited to hear/sing All star by Smash mouth 100 times (The same goes for Kendyl times 5).

With that being said the last two  weeks have been  boring typical weeks consisting of going to class, learning, sleeping and eating. Except for Geology which I have Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 10:00 am. I have already slept through it twice once each week so far, and I have only had it five times, and one of those times class was cancelled after five minutes because the projector was broke. So I have only been to two Geology lectures in 2 weeks. On top of that I am going to miss it this Friday and Monday for Colorado. So next week I will have attended Geology 5 of 9 times, I don’t think that’s good, especially for my favorite class.

Really the only interesting thing that has happened here so far this semester was Saturday night when Ron let his roommate Dylan (The Beard) punch him in the face for twenty dollars. Dylan is a bouncer at a bar back in Nebraska where he has been stabbed, and shot in the leg, he is buff. It would take several thousand dollars for me to let Dylan punch me. Any ways so Dylan found some MMA fighting gloves making it .0000000000001% less stupid of Ron for letting him do it. Then Ron took off his glasses closed it eyes and BAM, Dylan did not hold back at all, Ron was so dizzy and out of it afterward that he was barely able to grasp the twenty dollars Dylan gave him.

Sunday I played soccer for the first time since November. We only played for a hour and a half but I am so out of shape that I thought I was going to die. I took a 30 minute hot shower afterward because I was immediately super sore.

On another note it is currently Snowing cats and pandas. This is the 4th time we have gotten a quick heavy snowstorm that only dumped a inch or less.

Colorado in 3 Days and Counting, X Games in 5 Days and Counting!

Living The Honey Badger Life

16 Jan

I am am living my life right  like the Honey Badger, which is my FAVORITE animal.

Honey Badgers opinion on most things: Honey Badger don’t give a shit!

This semester I am taking 14 credit Hours. Monday I only have Geology from 10-11:50 am, so far I like it allot and find most of it interesting enough to pay attention the whole time, except for the one day we discussed chemistry (I hate chemistry its the reason I am not a geology major).

Tuesday I have Sociology from 9:35-10:50, its not near as fun as Mr. Vickers class was, but its not to bad. Then I have Art appreciation from 3:35-4:50 pm, it is the most boring class ever! My Professor shows us picture after stupid picture, and she  just goes crazy over analyzing them. One picture she showed us was a bunch of random black straight lines crossing randomly over each other with a white background, and she related it to Lions chasing a water buffalo in Africa. Straight lines = Lions in Africa, hell no they don’t. (she is freaking crazy). My opinion of that class is the same as the Honey badger.

Wednesday I only have Geology again, but starting on February 27th I have Ropes Challenger course facilitator training from 4:30-7:30pm out at the lake. This class is once a week for only the second half of the semester for 3 easy a credits which I need badly (more on that later). This is the hardest climbing class they have, the whole class is about them teaching us advanced climbing skills and safety and what not. If I finish this class which I will (It was pretty much made for me), then I will be a certified climbing instructor and I will be able to get a job next year assisting with the other climbing classes.

Thursday I have Sociology and art again, but I also have Geology lab from 1-2:50 pm which so far I like.

Friday I only have Geology again.

I am on academic probation from last semester which means that to be able to attend school there next year (not sure I even want to), I have to get my whole GPA including last semesters classes above a 2.0. Last semester I had a 1.3 GPA I know I am bad student but that’s low even for me. So to get it up I cant have any F’s or D’s, I can have one C and I need some A’s. Hints why I took easy classes. Being kicked out of school is the motivation I needed because I am actually trying and paying attention in all of my classes for the first time in EVER EVER EVER.

Peace to your Pet Honey Badgers, Love to your inner Honey Badger, and Happiness to your Honey Badger thoughts!

Megan: Fall break is here!!!

13 Oct

After 7 weeks of school, fall break couldn’t come at a better time. Last week was probably the most stressful because I had a paper due on Monday and a math test on Tuesday. Granted, I probably procrastinated a lot. But it was also homecoming week, which came with activities that conveniently happened during the time I usually do homework.
Homecoming week activities included The Mabee Games (kind of like Olympics, but with tug-of-war, human pyramid, and a HUGE SLIP AND SLIDE ON THE GYM FLOOR!), Casino Night (it was a black tie affair and there was poker tables and dancing and getting dressed up), and Campus Sing (basically Glee but a Capella) and every event was pretty much a pep-rally as well with a lot of screaming for the spirit stick, which the first years never won. Saturday’s football game was bad. Me, Kendyl and LeiLei left after halftime and we ended up losing to SBU, 0-35.
Monday this week was one of those weird days where you could tell everyone on campus was just having “one of those days” plus it was cloudy and rainy. Everyone was just exhausted from homecoming week and fall break was looming and everyone was just ready for break… that was me anyway.

So as many of you know, I’m currently taking violin lessons here. And they’ve been going really really well actually. My goal coming to Jewell and doing music was to eventually get into the symphony. And my professor told me at the beginning of the semester that I could potentially be ready for the symphony by my sophomore year or possibly my 2nd semester of my first year. He told me a couple weeks ago that I should start thinking about whether or not I want to do symphony because he says I’m on that level!! I didn’t think it would happen so quickly though. And ever since that week, he’s been pushing it and it’s so hard to resist…. So hopefully my schedule for next semester will include symphony! I’m so excited!!! And also today (well yesterday if you want to get techincal) I got new music (a big deal from a musician)!!! Salut d’Amour by Elgar. It’s really pretty if you want to youtube it. But don’t expect me to be that good if you ever hear me play it!

Tonight we went out to the Cheesecake Factory for Lei’s birthday. It was quite fun and I got really full on the Factory Burger and Lemon Raspberry Cheesecake. The people sang to Lei when they brought out her cheesecake… but she got really embarrassed. Haha! She also left her glasses in my car and couldn’t read the menu. Then she asked if anyone would walk back to the car (parked over by Barnes and Noble) with her to get them, and after nose-goes-ing, I was chosen, unfortunately. Lame-o.

Currently I’m at my dad’s house. I’ll be leaving Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania tomorrow morning to visit my cousin and her new baby daughter (She doesn’t have Eye Flaps)! I’m so excited. She’s sent me a few pictures and she’s supers cute! 🙂

That’s all for now from Indepimpdence! Hope all is well with you all where ever you are! Miss you lots!

P.S. I had to take Zac and Dasha home today…. I’ll update later with that inside info.
