Busy Semester

30 Jan

Hey, friends. I apologize for being absent from the blog. I’m just finally getting settled into my routine.

Break was too short, as it always seems to be. I spent most of it watching Netflix, lounging, eating, and hanging out with you lot, of course. And I also learned to SKI. THAT WAS SO MUCH FUN. I also got a Tumblr, which was a bad idea because I already spend too much of my time on other forms of social media. Now this just further takes up my time and also feeds my unhealthy obsessions with Benedict Cumberbatch and the like.

School has been going smoothly. I’m taking classes at MU and Central Methodist. It’s kind of a long story but I’m at CMU so I can apply to their nursing school at the end of the semester. I’m currently at 17 credit hours, which is the most I have ever taken. However, the best part is that my classes don’t start until 11 and I have Fridays off!

I’m mainly taking electives at Mizzou because I’m waiting to get into nursing school. However, most of them are quite challenging and time consuming. Anyway I’m enrolled in Public Speaking, Intro to Art and Biology Lab at MU. I’m enrolled in 3 classes at CMU. Religion, Pathophysiology, and Literature. The later two are online and all 3 are prerequisites to apply for nursing at CMU.

My favorite classes so far are Public Speaking and Intro to Art. Both of my instructors (actually all of them) at MU are all Grad Students and they’re all pretty chill. I had to give a 3 minute speech the other day in Public Speaking and I’m pretty sure that was the worst 3 minutes of my life. I always get shaky and my face gets really hot (which probably means that it’s also super red) when I have to do something in front of a crowd. But I think I’m going to like that class because I get to write about what I want to talk about, not some analysis of a book that I didn’t want to read. My art class is 3 hours long, but it is definitely a nice stress reliever.

I’ve decided to cut back on hours at the good ol’ HV since I’m taking so many credits. I figured 10 is about good, but now I’m kind of regretting it because I really need money to pay for school/school things. But school is taking up a lot of time. It’s really a never ending cycle.

In terms of nursing school, I turned in my application on Monday. Interviews are next Friday. And in the midst of all of that, I already have a huge pile of projects and assignments to complete. Plus we’ve got birthdays to celebrate next week!! EEKKK!! We’re all getting so old! 😉

Peace out, girl scouts.

It’s the Lunar New Year!

10 Feb

Happy Chinese New Year!!! This is probably my favorite holiday of the year. Family, red envelopes, and lots of tasty food! Today I had dim sum with my cousins. It was delish.

And just FYI, it’s the year of the snake!

Here’s some videos for your procrastination purposes.

This guy isn’t even Asian, and he knows more Chinese than I do. I bring dishonor to my family. Haha! Just kidding. : )

恭喜發財! 新年快樂!
Wishing you prosperity and happiness in the new year!

Happenings.

7 Feb

Hey guys. To be honest, this week, like most of your weeks, have been pretty dull. Not all that much is exciting in my life.

Remember how in my last few posts I talked about not wanting to do anything academically productive? Well the bad news is that it is all finally catching up to me. I have a paper due tomorrow, a test on Tuesday, multiple online assignments, and like a million readings to catch up on. I don’t know how people live like this for extended periods of time, just not caring about a single class. Maybe it’s just the Asian-ness in me. LOL. But I already regret not doing anything so much! And I just have so much stress right now and I’m pretty sure that’s the reason why my eye has been twitching non-stop for like the past 3 days. Actually I’m not for sure that’s the reason why, I might just have low potassium levels. Haha. But the good news is my sickness/cold is subsiding! Yay!!

Anyway did I mention I hate Thursdays? I believe I already have. But I’m saying it again. And actually I don’t hate every Thursday, just every other Thursday where I’m on campus until 7ish. Today was that Thursday. My last class is probably the stupidest class ever. Mainly because it is really unorganized and every time the professor talks, I just kind of automatically tune her out because she speaks like 5 words a minute. And also because it goes until 6:35. And I am usually starving by the end of it.

Tomorrow I start my 3 day, seasonal job working at the Candy Factory. I’m only working a total of about 9 hours for the Valentine’s holiday. But it pays pretty well, more than I was expecting. And honestly, my bank account is looking pretty pathetic at the moment. What I earn will help cover some bills, so I’m actually pretty stoked!

Sunday is CHINESE NEW YEAR! And I’m really excited but I don’t really have any plans. My mother is going to StL with my Grandmother, Aunt, and one of my cousins for an Asian CNY celebration. And my other cousins invited me to go eat Dim Sum Sunday morning back home. So there’s a possibility I might be going back this weekend… If I decide to be productive and finish a majority of my studying and homework that is…

I know. It’s not my blogging day.

23 Jan

Sorry to interupt the blogging schedule. But I have a very important message to bring to you guys.

IT’S CHINESE NEW YEAR!!!
It’s the year of the dragon, in case you were wondering. My crazy uncle told me a few weeks ago that since it’s supposed to be a very lucky year, a lot of people (more so Asian people) will be planning to get married this year. And also there’ll be a lot of what comes with marriage, AKA babies. I’ll let you put 2 and 2 together. Yeah, talk about a little bit awkward.

Here’s a CNY music video for your viewing pleasure.

And also a picture of Ni Hao Kai Lan on CNY.
