The negatives of sports

18 Nov

The lift operations department here at the resort has a few shifts that start at 5am, Last week I worked one of these shifts meaning I had to report to the Lift Ops locker room by 5am dressed and ready to work. I woke up at 4:30 probably setting the record for the earliest I have ever woken up for anything. After reporting on time to the locker room me and the 6 other people working the 5am shift walked out to the base of the mountain where we buckled into are snowboards/skis and hopped on the main chair lift heading up the mountain. I then looked up at the sky and saw more stars at once then I have ever seen my entire life, I felt completed surrounded by stars from being so high up the mountain, when I looked behind me away from the mountain the stars seemed to be almost at eye level. After the mile long ride I got off my chair and snowboarded the half mile or so to the bottom of the lift I was working for the day in complete darkness surrounded by stars and trees. After shoveling some snow at the bottom I rode a chair to my first station at the top lift shack one of the highest points on the mountain as the sun was rising. I worked a really long day 5am to 5pm but between the night sky, watching the sunrise, the awesome weather, and getting to snowboard on my lunch break it was probably my favorite day of work for any job I have ever had. Also you can’t beat getting to snowboarding to and from work.

I don’t know if it’s the cold weather, the altitude, or just that I snowboard everyday but most mornings when I wake up it seems like almost every part of my body I have ever injured is incredibly sore. My right knee is the worst it’s only been 4 months since my acl/meniscus surgery but most mornings it takes a few hours before I can even bend it more than 20 degrees or walk without a limp. My ankles aren’t much better, throughout the 12 years I played soccer I probably sprained each of them at least 5 times and usually after a day of snowboarding my ankles feel like they are on fire.

I can barely hold a pen or pencil with my right hand after surgery on my arm I broke 6 years ago playing soccer, and then hand surgery again after shattering the bone in the palm of my hand and around my thumb mountain biking last December also when it gets cold enough my arm and hand just generally ache in pain.

Last winter was my most painful injury. I caught an edge while snowboarding off a jump at a ski area in Missouri and dropped about 8 feet onto mostly solid ice landing on my back with my feet still in the air I also smacked my head on the ice. My first thought after falling on my back was “oh shit oh shit I hope I didn’t break my back” followed by “shit I might have a concussion”. But after rolling around in pain for a few minutes I ended up standing up on my own while still in extreme pain and hiking down the hill to my car where I sat for an hour before the pain resided enough for me to drive home. I had a horrible headache and a huge black bruise on my back the next day and I still have back pain every now and then from that fall if I stand up for extended periods of time.

I have never been diagnosed with a concussion but that’s probably because I have never gone to the doctor for a head injury. I have hit my head several times the worst last year when I was in college. While playing club soccer I ran full speed for a header and ended up getting knocked to the ground out cold after colliding with an Austrian on the team who was twice my size. After waking up I rolled around on the ground for a few seconds until I stopped seeing black, then I got up and kept playing with the worst headache and whiplash I have ever had.

I really want to get into surfing, climbing, and long boarding this summer because I think they would be a little easier on my body.

Powder Days

11 Nov

I am currently eating chicken noodle soup for lunch. I will also have chicken noodle soup for dinner and probably breakfast tomorrow. Until I moved to Colorado I was not a fan of any canned foods but I went grocery shopping last week for the first time and realized canned foods, ramen noodles, and sandwiches are cheaper than steak, barbecue pork, ribs, sausage, bacon and all the other meats I love dearly. That being said I may drop down to an unhealthy weight by the end of winter, but the free snowboarding will make it well worth it.

It has been snowing almost nonstop for the last two days here, I snowboarded all day yesterday in 7 inches of fresh powder as snow kept falling. Then today after snowboarding all morning my neighbor Cliff and I caught one of the first chairs up to the newly opened Ptarmigan trail up near the summit of the mountain. We dropped into Ptarmigan and were in waist deep powder almost all the way down. Deep snow is almost any snowboarder/skiers dream, it’s awesome when the snow is so deep that you feel like you are floating as you ride and you can get as gnarly as you want launching off make shift jumps or flying through the trees while going as fast as possible and if you wipe out it’s almost painless as long as you fall into the snow and not a tree. I have snowboarded more in a week here then I did all last winter in Kansas City, and I am not missing the icy slopes of the Midwest.

I had training this week Monday-Thursday I enjoyed most of it, I also got to meet all my fellow first year lift operators 99% of which live in employee housing with me and I also got a free lunch. My first day of work was Friday I worked a lift that was open only to racing teams which was a little boring because they are all so good that you don’t really need to help them load or unload, but I enjoyed it and I think I am going to love this job.

I think I am going to take an avalanche safety training course and buy some backcountry safety gear here pretty soon, that way once the heavy snow starts falling on the summits in a month or two I can go backcountry snowboarding away from the resort on the giant untouched mountains around here.

Colorado

4 Nov

Friday I left for Colorado, I packed 99% of my stuff the morning I left but I don’t own very many things so I had no problems. I did not enjoy the 10 hour drive here very much especially since this was the 5 th time in less than a year I have driven I-70 from Missouri to Colorado, but I made the whole drive without going crazy. I stayed in a hotel in Georgetown, Colorado friday night, then I moved in (dropped all my stuff on the floor) to my employee apartment saturday morning. Then after moving in my focus became 100% on getting my employee ski pass as quick as possible and after filling out a bunch of paper work and paying my rent I finally got it around 11 am and I was snowboarding by  11:15. After the lifts closed at 4:30 I went and picked up my uniform and watched football in the super nice lobby of our building with some other employees.

The most awesome thing about living here is how close I live to the slopes, today (sunday) I woke up at 8:15 got dressed grabbed a pop tart and my snowboard then after a 5 minute walk I was on the lift riding up the mountain where I boarded untill 4:30. Also within walking distance of me are several restaurants, shops, and a grocery store.

My roommate doesn’t move in for a few more weeks, so I don’t have to pick all my stuff up off the floor for a while. I have only been here 2 days but so far this place has been pretty awesome and I don’t think I will have a problem living here for 6 months, I have 4 days of lift operator training starting tomorrow.

Red Bull Stratos

14 Oct

Did anybody else watch Red Bull Stratos live on Discovery Channel this morning. If you don’t know about, basically a guy named Felix Baumgartner jumped from a capsule at the edge of space 24 miles (128,000 feet) above earth, then he free-fell for almost five minutes breaking the sound barrier before deploying his parachute and landing safely on his feet 10 minutes after he first jumped. I think Felix Baumgartner might be the all time king of YOLO.

Work Hard, Play Hard

14 Oct

Copper Mountain got more snow this week, this picture is of the village at the base of the mountain where I will be living, only 18 days until I move there.

I have been researching guide jobs for next summer and I found a company I like called Ace Adventure Resort located in West Virginia. They have a lot cool guide jobs like white water rafting guide, zipline guide, atv guide, rock climbing guide, kayaking guide, sup board guide, mountain bike guide and more. Also its all located in a very scenic area of the Appalachian Mountains, and it looks like there would be a lot of awesome stuff to do when I am not working all for free. The catch is if employed by them my choices for housing would be my own tent on an employee campground for free, or a very basic cabin with no electricity and I would live in one of these from may to october. Although living in a cabin for several months would be a cool experience and I would be able to save up a lot of money  I am not sure if I want to do it. Not having electricity means I would have to cook food over a campfire or a wood stove which would be a healthy alternative to all the microwaved food I currently eat, and I would probably even have to do laundry by hand seeing as no electricity means no washing machines. The resort looks like it would be a ridiculously awesome place to work at though, and who knows if I do decide to apply there and get hired mabey I can convince some friends to work there with me (Cough cough fellow chrisman2college bloggers). You can check them out at http://www.aceraft.com/

Besides working I am still spending a lot of time rehabbing my knee, I have been running every day for the last two weeks and doing various knee exercises designed to strengthen it. Hopefully it will be healed up soon before I start snowboarding here in a few weeks.

Next weekend I will not be posting, I am going down to Bentonville, Arkansas to camp, mountain bike, cliff jump, and eat at my favorite restaurant on earth http://www.hammontreesgourmet.com/.

Anybody see this episode of the office? I thought Megan might get a kick out of asian Jim.

Florence + The Machine

8 Oct

Whats Up Party People?

Last monday night I attended the Florence + The Machine Concert at Starlight theater with Kendyl and Megan. The night started with Kendyl forgetting the tickets and having to drive back home to get them. Then after arriving at Starlight and walking half way to the theater Megan realized she forgot to lock her car so me and Kendyl had to wait as she went back to lock it. After Megan locked her car we finally got to the ticket gate where after getting my ticket scanned I turned around to see the event staff telling Kendyl she could not take her camera in, so I waited again as Kendyl and Megan went back to the car again. A little bit later after finally getting in and taking our seats I smiled at an events staff lady and charmed her into giving us free wristbands so we could stand right in front of the stage for the concert which was amazing. We were standing right in front of the stage by a wall of speakers throughout the entire concert, I could feel my internal organs vibrating to the music. Me and Florence had a moment when we locked eyes and she looked right into my soul, although I think she is into witchcraft I could go along with it if we were to ever get married. The concert was pretty zesty and I got to do a bit of fist pumping and screaming. I want to see Florence + The Machine live again but hopefully next time it will be at Red Rocks.

I have not done much of interest lately, I leave for Colorado in 26 days and I spend a decent amount of my time every day staring at my snowboard and giving him the attention and affection he deserves. I started running again last week for the first time since I tore my ACL in May and I can say that I have never enjoyed running more.

I have been rock climbing a lot lately, not at IBEX but out in nature where it is free. Friday I was about 10 feet up a 20 foot rock face at the lakes when I reached for a crack in the cliff and ended up pulling a frying pan sized rock down on my head causing me to fall to the ground. I ended up with a bleeding forehead, bloody scalp, a huge headache, and a deep cut to the bone on my left thumb. From now on I think I am going to pay to climb at IBEX where its safer and they have ropes that catch you when you fall.

This is Me in 26 days!

Snow!

23 Sep

Last week Copper Mountain^ got their first snowstorm of the season. I cant wait to move there!

I havent done anything interesting lately I have just been working a lot at the marina and parking hella boats. Work is pretty boring since business is slowing down, I spend most my time at work sitting and doing nothing or feeding and playing with the marina turtle Jose, I also occasionally park boats which I am exceptionally good at.

Friday I read through some of my old post from last year and in one of my post from last october I wrote the following

“I am cheap (veryyyy cheap). College is expensive, so if next semester im still not feeling it I think I might quit, then work for Jackson count parks and rec for the summer, then go work at a ski resort in Colorado all winter”

I would say I predicted my future pretty well in that post.

Today I spent 4+ hours trying to seek out the cause of the check engine light being on in the Swaggon Waggon, and after cutting and burning my self on just about every metal thing under my car I finally go it fixed, I hate working on cars but doing it my self was way cheaper than taking it to a auto shop.

I’m jacked to get weird at the Florence and The Machine concert in a week, hope you guys are ready for the craziest concert ever Megan and Kendyl

I would love to live in the Workaholics house, hopefully I will one day be able to afford a house as shitty and awesome as theirs.

46 Days Till Colorado!

15 Sep

I am counting down the days until I leave for Colorado on Nov 2. However I am not looking forward to driving 11 hours there all by myself. I am looking forward to snowboarding EVERYDAY for 5 1/2 months, hopefully I make it through the winter injury free. I am going to be living a dorm sized room with a random roommate, but I wont know who my roommate is until I meet him face to face hopefully he wont be weird. All and all this winter should be Legen wait for ittttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt Dairy.

I haven’t done anything special lately I have just been working a lot, last Friday and Saturday I worked all day open to close. I’m trying to make up for the money I lost when I had to take a month off work for my acl surgery so I asked for extra shifts. I find Independence to be pretty boring most the time especially since most the people I know are away at college, and for the time being I do miss being in college where I was never really bored. I went up to Northwest last week to visit friends, I ended up explaining several times why I wasn’t in school and I was amazed at how many people seemed to idle me and want to want to drop out like me or take a year off once they heard what my plans are for traveling and working the next few years. I’m not sure how great of an example I am for others though if I am making them want to drop out of college. Also I visited the crap house that my friends Jon, Cliff, and Josh are living in this year. It’s on the very edge of Maryville 20 minutes from campus, there are holes in some of the walls, the kitchen window has been replaced with cardboard, theirs graffiti on the living room wood floor, the roof leaks, and there is a hole in the upstairs bathroom floor big enough to fall through but they are paying super cheap rent and party houses like theirs will soon be get trashed anyways. Honestly I would probably be living with them this year in their crappy house had I stayed at Northwest.

I am already putting a lot of thought into what I want to do next summer and I decided I want to be an outdoors guide of some sort. I’m trying to decide between being a white water rafting guide, Zip line guide, mountain bike guide, kayaking guide, SUP board guide, backpacking guide, climbing course facilitator, or working at a marina in a national park somewhere. Beside deciding what kick ass summer job I want I also have to decide where I want to do it and my choices so far are Yellowstone national park, Colorado, Utah, Yosemite National Park, West Virginia, Maine, Minnesota, Michigan, Montana, California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Hawaii, and Costa Rica. Honestly I have so many awesome job choices in so many awesome places that I have no idea how I am going to choose, but I have spent a lot of time on http://www.coolworks.com/ which is where I found my Ski Resort job.

Fact: Whenever I finally live in my own house I am going to spend a lot of time on the roof

Imaginary Money Spending Spree!

28 Apr

The last 2 weeks went by really slow. First 2 weeks ago was our school hosted city-wide soccer tournament, which included our club team, the girls soccer team, the football team, the local high school team,  along with other teams consisting of professors and older people. But it was during the day on a Sunday so I had to work, bummer. The club team won the whole thing though going 3-0.

Then Sunday night I realized I had 300 extra dollars in food money when I got my weekly email stating how much meal money have left and how much I was supposed to have. So I went on an epic spending spree with what is basically imaginary money in my mind. I went down to the vending machines in my hall and filled up my backpack with candy and chips then bought every one in the lobby that I knew candy, the next night I ordered 80 dollars of pizza hut, and I also bought a hugely overpriced 24 pack of Red Bull for 70 dollars from the food court.

That Thursday night 2 guys on the third floor of my hall through an end of the year DANCE PARTY in THEIR DORM ROOM. They had a stereo hooked up in one of their closets to save space, and the other closet was filled with water bottles full of different colors of rainbow colored alcohol. They didn’t turn anyone away, people kept knocking on the door and they kept squeezing them. It was a pretty awesome party, dancing at their Dance Party was pretty much just jumping up and down do to the masses of moving body’s around you. I don’t know if any of you have ever seen any of the memes that show cartoon characters puking rainbows, but later that night people were actually puking rainbows from drinking to many water bottles full of colored Vodka, which was pretty cool as far as puke goes. The RA’s in my hall are not super strict but I think they had to of bribed their RA because every body knew party was going on, the music was super loud, and people were constantly loudly entering a room already packed wall to wall with people.

The next week was finals week and I actually studied a lot………….. more than I normally do but still not a lot, but I think I did fine on my finals. Wednesday of finals week was my Advanced climbing facilitators class final, the whole class just teaches you how to teach other people the knots and techniques they need to know to climb. Our final for the class was to supervise and run climbing activities for a 7th and 8th grade field trip out to the climbing facility.  It was pretty fun I actually like working with youth, and it made me feel old. That class has got me really into climbing and in the two days of my summer so far I have already went climbing 3 times at a cliff out at the lake. I also discovered that there is a huge indoor climbing  facility in Blue Springs called IBex, I plan on climbing there a ton this summer.

I’m officially done with classes, my finals have been taken and its time for summer.

30 Things I learned from College

17 Apr

30 Things I Learned from College

1. Attendance of  lectures is optional (Most my professors posted their lecture notes online along with test dates, meaning I only needed to show up for test)

2. Do not type a paper the day its due

3. Bed Time is never until after Mid Night

4. Do not do a project the day its due

5. You become a professional people watcher

6. Fraternity bro’s are as crazy as in the movies

7. If the trash starts moving around and making noise it should be taken out

8. Combine Shampoo and Body Wash so you don’t have to buy them as often

9. The school pond is infested with E Coli

10. Pepperoni Lunchables get nasty after 30 meals in a row

11. People actually drink Jungle Juice out of nasty hairy bathtubs

12. Colleges in the middle of nowhere produce more alcoholics then a bar with an entrance and no exit

13. Pizza can get unappetizing after several months

14. You skip classes because you are to lazy to climb out of your loft

15. No more than 2 cups of coffee or cans of Red Bull should be consumed daily, anymore and you start to shake and scream.

16. Easy classes are easy, hard classes are I wouldn’t know

17. The larger a class the less a professor cares

18. Labs Suck

19. Labs should be attended

20. The internet is meant to be explored During lectures

21.  That moment during a math test when the answer you get after minutes of work isn’t one of the choices, so you pick D because it hasn’t been picked for a while

22. Professors that suck at speaking English suck at teaching

23.  Microwaves are the most important devices on the planet

24. A dorm room is like a clown car, you can fit hella amounts of people in a dorm room

25. Whatever seat you pick the first day of class is yours for good, students are territorial

26. 99% of students are constantly moving, tapping legs pencils etc..

27. Laundry is best done after mid night

28. Most meals come from vending machines

29. All the socks you lose are under your bed

30. Its hard to hide a dog in a dorm room, its even harder to train a dog to use a littler box

My last few weeks have been very uneventful. This is my last week of classes, then I have finals next week, then I am done. I took my loft down today and didn’t feel like setting up my bed frame so I just set my mattress on the floor and that’s how I am keeping it. That is all.

Its Hot in Here!

26 Mar

Last Sunday-Thursday I was in Colorado with my dad for my spring break, I wish I was still there. Monday I Snowboarded at Loveland Basin from open to close as a warm up for Tuesday. Tuesday I Snowboarded at Keystone, first when you get there you have to ride a Gondola up to the top of the mountain which took 5 minutes (I felt like I was going to the top of Mt. Everest). Then you get off the Gondola and go down the backside of the mountain which takes forever because keystone is huge it makes Loveland look like Snow Creek. I boarded at Keystone from open to close and probably didn’t even ride half the trails, it was awesome. Wednesday I went Breckenridge from open to close crossing it off my bucket list. I thought Keystone was awesome but Breckenridge is amazing, while I was there I rode the Imperial Express chair lift like 20 times. It’s the highest chair lift in north america ending at 12,840 feet, riding it was also on my Bucket list. When you get off the Imperial Express lift you can hike/climb 50 yards to the summit of Peak 8, I did this 5 times and had to sit a rest at the top like an old man every time. Then to get down you have to board loose snow on a super steep Double Black Diamond slope, it was pretty Zesty.I have started working at the marina and I have to say I love my job. I get free soft drinks, slushy’s, discounted food, and I work on with and around boats all day, that’s awesome.

Also I was told today on my first day back from break that the Air Conditioning will probably not be turned on in my hall until next semester when I wont be here, fml. There is no where in Dieterich hall to escape the heat, its hot every where, and even some of the academic buildings don’t have a/c, which pisses me off because I pay a lot of money (6,748 dollars exactly) to live on campus in Dieterich, and even more to attend classes so the least NW could do is keep all their students from dying of heat stroke.I only have a month left though then I am done, and I cannot express how ready I am to get outa here!

Sketch

13 Mar

Last Wednesday was the first time everybody in my climbing class got to climb^. We were put into groups of 3, I was in a group with 2 girls I did not know. Then we were given our harnesses without instruction on how to put them on (sketch). Next somebody from each group had to climb first the two girls elected me to my displeasure (Sexist). I am not scared of heights, and I enjoy climbing pretty much anything, but I was a little scared because the only way to get down form the top of the 50 foot tower was to be belayed (lowered) down by which ever partner you were hooked to by the rope. The girl in our group I was hooked to was half my size and half my weight (Sketch Sketch), I don’t know a lot about physics but that scared me. So I got hooked up tied my self in and pretty easily climbed to the top of the tower, but to get down I had to sit down and scoot myself off the edge of the top platform 50 feet off the ground so the rope could catch me and my partner could lower me to the ground using the techniques we were taught. But as I scooted of the edge I looked down at her face and saw a look of confusion, horror, and terror as if she didn’t remember what she was taught about controlling my descent  to keep me from plummeting to the ground (Sketchy, Sketch, Sketch).

She was not doing this^, no smile, and brake hand was off rope

But I whispered Live A Little to my self and slid off the edge anyways and well I am still alive so she did safely remember how to lower me down.

I start work at the Marina this Saturday at 7 am which is fantastic because I am almost broke. Also my spring break is next week (Holla).

Justin Bieber!

5 Mar

Nothing eventful really happened this last week. Last Wednesday was the first day for my climbing class, we were taught how to tie the knots that keep us from falling 50 feet to the ground if we slip. I went Snowboarding Saturday with Lei, Cody, and Kendyl, with 30 minutes left until they closed Cody broke his wrist trying to show me up with a 360 nose grab off the 10 footer in the terrain park (It was pretty Zesty). Since I don’t have anything  else to say I am going to feed all you grammar Nazis dinner, here is a story I wrote for Mr. Dials College Prep high school English class last year, he gave me a D+.

Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber! I’m sure you’ve heard of him but then again who hasn’t heard of him? Ten years ago, in 2010, he was the biggest name in music, he filled stadiums and arenas, while entertaining thousands.

Five years ago Justin could no longer sell out stadiums, arenas or any venue of any kind. All the teens and little girls that once loved him had grown up and moved on to liking bigger and better things like Lady Gaga. He realized he had no fan base and he knew his career as a singer was over. He retired from the music industry and at the age of 21 decided to attend college and major in Zoology with an emphasis on polar bears.

Justin moved back to his native Canada and started college in Toronto. He breezed through his first three years of college getting straight a’s in everything he took. Then his senior, he met Miley Cyrus while at a six am early morning party. She had also retired from music after losing all her fans to Lady Gaga, and was attending college to become a veterinarian. She and Justin hit it off right away, and Justin asked her out on a date, and Miley said yes. So the next weekend Justin picked Miley up from her dorm and drove her out onto the woods on his blue Vespa moped. They had a nice picnic and discovered they liked a lot of the same things and that they both loved polar bears, then they spent the night in the woods and headed home the next morning. They dated for the rest of their senior year. Justin and Miley both graduated at the top of their class and after graduation they decided to live together and moved north to the arctic where they could study polar bear starvation.

After a few months of peaceful living in the Arctic Circle, Justin got a job with the Canadian Wildlife Conservation Department researching polar bear starvation, and Miley became his assistant. One day, while Justin was out conducting research Miley met Eminem who stopped by there hut to warm up. Eminem had been wandering around the Arctic Circle to get away from all the people who were mad at him for murdering Lady Gaga. But Miley didn’t know that and didn’t think anything weird of seeing Eminem so far north. Eminem was a good talker and after twenty minutes or so he had Miley liking him, and he then began coming over every day after Justin left to go do his research. Eventually Miley was having an affair with Eminem which went on for months. Then one day Miley forgot to make Eminem lunch and in his hungry rage he tied her to the bed and lit the hut on fire. Later that day Justin came home to the smell of smoke, a smoldering hut, and the ashes of his dead wife. He was shocked but he had heard Eminem was in the area and he knew Eminem had done it. It then became his personal goal to kill Eminem; he rounded up his animal friends and told them find and kill Eminem no matter the cost. The raccoons quickly found Eminem just a few miles south of the hut and mauled him to death.

With his wife and Eminem dead, Justin dedicated himself to researching polar bear starvation full time. But he soon went crazy and began to believe he was a polar bear and that he belonged with them so he roamed with them and lived with them. Then one day while napping in a cave with his family of starving polar bears then one of them ate him.

The End! Swagg!

True Story!

Last Monday was Mr. Dieterich, which is basically a talent/fashion contest for any male residents of Dieterich hall who wanted to compete. Ten guys did it this year including me, it was in the lobby on a stage with a sound system and everything, I did not plan anything out like everyone else did.

First up was a Q & A session: Favorite Food- Red Bull, Favorite Color- Tye Dye, What famous person would you date if you could – Jennifer Aniston, Place you would most like to travel and why- The end of a rainbow because I want my pot of gold. I defiantly was in the lead after the Q & A round. Next was up was the Swimwear portion which I rocked with my Lifeguard swagg. After that was the talent portion, I couldn’t Snowboard or Mountain Bike on stage so I just sat down on stage pulled out some stuff and made a Nutella, Pop-Tart, Cookie sandwich which I then signed with a sharpie and gave to a judge who I made eat it.

Next was the formal wear portion so I were a flannel and did some dancing. I would say I got the most laughs and I ended up getting third which I thought was pretty good since I made a sandwich for my talent, and didn’t dress up for formal wear.

Sunday was Red Bull Schlittentag at Snow Creek. It was 60 degrees (wtf its still winter) so the snow was way to slushy for our (me, Cody, Tristan) sled and well we didn’t win.

But I did pull off a SICK, ZESTY No Footer of the jump at the end.

Nutella Makes You Puke RAINBOWS

20 Feb

Challenge Accepted

Kendyl, Morgan, Tristan, Cody, 20 other people I taught this year, MY BAD. lol

Nutella makes you puke rainbows! It’s That Good!

Last week was pretty boring. Some time last week Northwest sent out an email saying that due to budget cuts the aquatic center would be closed within 2 weeks, and it would eventually be abandoned or renovated for a different use. Our rec center already sucks but without the aquatic center it’s just downright crappy. Also last week Northwest sent out another email to all students saying that due to budget cuts several majors will cut after this year and many of the professors who teach classes for the majors that get cut will be let go. Well that emailed in particular pretty much pissed off the entire student body here (a lot more than the aquatic center one). Because basically if you are not a senior and your major got cut then your options are to transfer or change majors, it doesn’t matter how much coursework you had already completed for it. A lot of the ones that got cut were specialty education and art majors which are the only reason some students came here. So a lot of people are in a bad mood and I feel like this school is one angry person away from a giant protest. My major is safe and I am leaving anyways, but I think a protest could be fun.

Red Bull Schlittentag is this Sunday and Me, Cody, and Tristan are going to dominate. Our sled (Our Whip) is done just needs to be painted. We used power tools for a good 5 hours and nobody was hurt (minor miracle).

I am so happy classes at Northwest end the last week of April. I’m ready to move out of my prison cell of a dorm room and to start working this summer, and to get tan (mostly I just want a tan). Also spring break is only a few weeks away and I have been eagerly awaiting it since January

Bucket List #82

13 Feb

Saturday was the Session Massacre Slope Style competition at Snow Creek ^, at the end of last winter I decided I was going to compete in it. But when I broke my hand and had surgery on it my doctor told me not to Snowboard until it was healed (I have no idea why I listened to him), so I missed a month  of our very short 3 month Missouri ski season at Snowcreek, and I knew I had almost no shot at qualifying for the podium round and absolutely no chance at placing on the podium so I didn’t enter it :(… Next year though (If im still living in Mo) I am going to place in the top 5, and Kendyl is going to take first in the very uncompetitive girls Slopestyle competition.

I am becoming more and more tired of living in Maryville every day. If classes here were free (Classes are only free in every students wildest (INSANE(CRAZY(NEVER GONA HAPPEN DREAMS)))) I would just drop out, I am that tired of constantly being bored to death. But classes here are not free (although here they cost far less the national average for 4 year university’s, such as the ones every one else attends :)), they cost a few thousand dollars so I feel obligated to finish out the year.

My grades right now are good, in fact they are the best they have ever been in my entire 19 years and 4 days long life. But I’m not sure I can do this academic thing for another three years, or at the least I just do not want to go to college for another 3 years or even 3 months for that matter. My thought process for planning out what I will be doing this time next year is very much affected by money in that college cost a lot of money and a job will get me a lot of money, and if I do both one year of college still cost way more money then I will ever make in one year of work. So im leaning on work (Work > College).

One of the things on my long bucket list is #82 Work and Live at a Colorado Ski Resort for an entire Ski Season. Next fall I think I will take a break from college for a year and go to Colorado to cross off #82. Then for the next 3 years after that I am going to finish getting my degree.

Also I signed up for the Mr. Dieterich competition in a few weeks which is open to all male Dieterich hall students. You win if you are judged well enough in a few different categories: Q @ A about yourself, doing a talent, and the fashion portion in which you wear something you deem to be dressy (I’m going with flannel and jeans) and second a swimwear show (Lifeguard uniform duh), this thing is mine to win.

Also this Song ^ plays in the rec center all the time and it’s probably permanently stuck in my head. Kanye West-Monster

This ^ is called slacklining the other day there was a group of people doing this between trees on campus and I knew some of them so I walked over and gave it a try. All you do is try to stand and balance on the slackline without falling off, its pretty fun, although I feel like its a hippy activity. Mabye I am crazy but I think it would be super fun to slackline across a big canyon like the guys in the video.

Warm in February? Child Please!

6 Feb

It snowed in Maryville over the weekend, and it is supposed to snow here again tonight. Boo Yeah!

Nothing special has happened during the last week, except for the stupidly warm weather. Snow Creek closed friday night due to a rain storm and warm weather (What the Hell its february), and since my cheap season pass only includes friday and saturday nights I was bummed I couldn’t go snowboard. Also Kansas lost to Missouri saturday night in a game I chose to watch over going snowboarding, so I was even more bummed.

The last few days and all of my classes I have been daydreaming about sled ideas for Red Bull Schlittentag which is a custom sledding competition that is coming to Snow Creek Feb 26th. Below is a video of Red Bull Schlittentag at  a different ski resort.

My team Will win this ^, So far im leaning on a pool party theme in wich the sled will be a plastic kiddy pool mounted on cheap snow boards, and it will be filled with water. This is my Sled I designed during Sociology today its pretty Zesty

That is all for now,

Life after the X Games

1 Feb

I was busy driving back from Colorado Monday and I was busy sleeping Tuesday so I am posting today.

2012 Winter X Games

So this last weekend was the 2012 Winter X Games which were freaking ZESTY. I have already decided I am at the least going to go to the next 9 Winter X Games to make it 10 Straight. Even if 9 Years from now I end up being one of those people we may of (We 100% did) bad mouth for bringing a baby or small child to the X Games (I Really really Really hope that isn’t me), though I now understand that you gotta do what you gotta do, no matter what to go. First off me and Cody went Skiing and Snowboarding on the way to the X Games at Loveland Ski area, located at 10 thousand feet. We were a little out of breath and dizzy the entire time from being so high up, but it was totally worth it, we hit every trail no matter how hard or how stupidly dangerous it was. I really wanted to and still do want to drop out of college and go work there all winter every winter FOREVER!

Normal Life

Indoor soccer with the club soccer team started up last week and I am constantly sore and dead tired from it. I have been back from Colorado for 2 days and I have already went through 7 cans of Red Bull I will admit it I have a problem I am addicted to Red Bull, but I quit drinking pop so its all good and healthy. I also have a really bad habit of falling asleep in class, so that’s where Red Bull come in handy. I am also doing something this semester that I have never done in my life, which is study for a test more then a day in advanced. I am studying for test I don’t have for weeks, sorry if that’s just a norm for you guys but I am proud of my self for it.

This Picture  is supposed to be a Lazy College Senior but it applies to me, so I guess I have all ready matured to the level of a college senior, Right?

Life After the X Games sucks!
Peace to your Double Corks, Love to you Backside Rodeos, and Happiness to perfect 100’s

Wait, You have to be awake to attend Geology?

23 Jan

To start off this post I must state that I cant really do anything productive this week, because I am to excited to go to the winter X games, to go to Colorado, to go Snowboarding in Colorado, to see Shaun White, and just a little bit excited to hear/sing All star by Smash mouth 100 times (The same goes for Kendyl times 5).

With that being said the last two  weeks have been  boring typical weeks consisting of going to class, learning, sleeping and eating. Except for Geology which I have Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 10:00 am. I have already slept through it twice once each week so far, and I have only had it five times, and one of those times class was cancelled after five minutes because the projector was broke. So I have only been to two Geology lectures in 2 weeks. On top of that I am going to miss it this Friday and Monday for Colorado. So next week I will have attended Geology 5 of 9 times, I don’t think that’s good, especially for my favorite class.

Really the only interesting thing that has happened here so far this semester was Saturday night when Ron let his roommate Dylan (The Beard) punch him in the face for twenty dollars. Dylan is a bouncer at a bar back in Nebraska where he has been stabbed, and shot in the leg, he is buff. It would take several thousand dollars for me to let Dylan punch me. Any ways so Dylan found some MMA fighting gloves making it .0000000000001% less stupid of Ron for letting him do it. Then Ron took off his glasses closed it eyes and BAM, Dylan did not hold back at all, Ron was so dizzy and out of it afterward that he was barely able to grasp the twenty dollars Dylan gave him.

Sunday I played soccer for the first time since November. We only played for a hour and a half but I am so out of shape that I thought I was going to die. I took a 30 minute hot shower afterward because I was immediately super sore.

On another note it is currently Snowing cats and pandas. This is the 4th time we have gotten a quick heavy snowstorm that only dumped a inch or less.

Colorado in 3 Days and Counting, X Games in 5 Days and Counting!

Peace, Love, and Happiness
